½ inch Modular Capacitor Capsules ½ inch Modular Capacitor Capsules High Performance Preamplifier Electronics KR-2C KR-2W KA-04 ½ Inch Cardioid Capsule ½ Inch Wide Cardioid Capsule Modular Microphone Preamplifier 48V - XLR-3 The KR-2C capsule is a ½ inch design with a cardioid polar pattern and wide frequency response. This capsule is suitable for the close miking of piano, guitar amps, stringed and wind instruments in all standard recording and reinforcement applications. The KR-2C offers excellent (capture) characteristics for signals that are extremely dynamic - such as drums, percussion instruments and all overhead miking. These capsules can be obtained in "matched pairs" for stereo X-Y and ORTF recordings and their smooth, yet accurate, sonic response make these a concert-taper’s dream. The KR-2C capsule is a "true condenser" type, Shown with KA-04 with self-noise that is measured at 12dBA (Aweighted). It offers extremely accurate signal transfer to any recording media. The wide dynamic range of this capsule allows normal use without an in-line pad. This capsules' sub-cardioid pattern, combined with a soft, low-cut shelf, pulls instruments forward even from far away; however, there is still generous ambience in the signal. The design eliminates the proximity-effect inherent in most standard cardioids and gives a true smooth low-frequency curve in any application. The KR-2W is a great wood and string-section mic that works well in the studio or in a great concert hall. It is directional, but still picks up ambience and overtones. It is able to work close in or high above and still be true. Shown with KA-04 KR-1D ½ Inch Omni diffuse Capsule KR-1F ½ Inch Omnidirectional Capsule Shown with KA-04 The KR-1F capsule is a ½ inch, "true condenser" design with a classic omnidirectional polar pattern. It is an excellent choice for acoustic guitar, strings, drums, percussion or wind instruments. The KR-1F is also ideal for room micing, or as a spot mic for choirs, organ or piano. As is true with all omnidirectional mics, the acoustic (ambient) space takes on more of a role when using the KR-1F and, consequently, engineers must work to create a good balance between direct and reflected sound. The frequency response of the KR-1F is flat from 20 to 20,000Hz with no more than +/-1.5 dB of deviation. The flat response makes this capsule ideal for A-B stereo recordings. Shown with KA-04 This capsule uses the same basic design as the KR-2W, but in a true omnidirectional configuration. The correction shelving gives great balance in any live or studio recording. This capsule, like most true omni-diffuse units, has a frequency response curve that is corrected to provide incredible "reach" in any situation, yet it sounds entirely natural, close in or far away. This capsule design offers a frequency response curve that is corrected for use at a large distance from the original sound source. The slight emphasis of high frequencies creates good balance and a neutral sound when you are miking distant sources in the diffuse field. In stereo recordings, this allows the capture of high frequency content while minimizing the "null point" and picking up the natural sound of the source. Both KR-1F and KR-2C units are also available as matched pairs for stereo recordings. Both KR-1D and KR-2W units are also available as matched pairs for stereo recordings. Construction utilizes hand-selected and matched components, lownoise metal film resistors and low-loss polyester capacitors with no electrolytics in the audio path path yielding amazingly low THD, low IMD and outstanding dynamic range. The electronics and actual PCB design include "Guard Ring Shielding", ensuring extremely low input load, high stability, low noise and a symmetrical transformerless highcapability Class "A"output as well as low dynamic output Impedance. This pre-amp body offers a true dynamic range from 1 µV to up to 18 Vpp into 10 K ohms 1 µV (input referred 20 to 20.000 Hz BW, RMS noise). This allows a lower input gain, reducing input noise, which makes the KA-04 the perfect match for even the most discerning 24 bit digital microphone preamplifiers. The low noise and high gain will simply amaze you, pulling the MOST from your existing recording chain, whether analog or digital. The assembly is made with THE finest materials, using Teflon, Delrin and 24K gold plating where needed. Each one is rigorously is tested through multiple functional, burn-in and quality checks, before leaving our factory. Professional Series For ages, man has sought to raise the quality of his work by investing his tools with the highest degree of form and utility. Using concentration, experience, fine material and time, man would create art to facilitate his work and to stand alone as art itself. Sound re-enforcement and recording are art forms - plain and simple. Modern technology has developed myriad new ways of capturing, editing, manipulating, storing and reproducing sound. The sound engineer of today is faced with the monumental task of learning acoustics, electronics, digital and analog theory and practice as well as musical theory and even human physiognomy. Consequently, technology evolves around fresh audio engineers before they even grasp the fundamentals of sound capture in that technology. However, work with sound must not only be a technical, but an inspired, artistic opus, in and of itself. Using knowledge, experience and a commitment to using ART to create ART, THE® has brought audio design talent, fine workmanship and attention to detail to the creation of tools our engineers have dreamed of for decades. To help the committed audio artist in us all, Taylor Hohendahl Engineering was born. All THE specifications are subject to change or improvements without notice. Fast, ultra-quiet electronic design; super high-quality components and a titanium diaphragm ensure years of trouble-free use in ANY environment. The TT-3M is designed for critical measurement as well as field or studio use. Only a titanium diaphragm can offer the stability required for long-term precision measurement - even in extreme environmental conditions. Incorporating the finest THE® fast and neutral transformerless electronics, this Type 1.5® reference mic is a new standard, offering an unprecedented marriage of art and technology that easily outstrips even the finest commercial and custom-built European test and reference microphones. With a "flat" frequency response of 5hz to over 20khz, the mic's huge dynamic range, high output and low distortion reach the theoretical limit of 48v phantom powering. The KP-6M is an omnidirectional 1/4 inch condenser microphone designed to be used in conventional test and calibration systems, and as the perfect companion to all measurement software currently available for PC's and DAWs. This is a specific measurement tool but it still sounds "musical" on instruments and LIVE recordings, as well. The specially designed, bullet-nozzle profile of the KP-6M produces a soft and low reflection pattern and is minimally invasive for the incoming acoustic wave field. The KP-6M also features patented fast and neutral transformerless electronics powered by 15V to 48V Phantom voltage. Both TT-6M and KP-6M units are also available as matched pairs for stereo recordings. Directional pattern omni. In addition, the natural impression of depth, space and image is not sacrificed with hard equalization to "linearize" the final frequency response of the microphone. It is extremely important to remember that ALL recordings made with this mic. are speaker-compatible, and that the frequency response of the two capsules is designed to compensate for acquiring distant sources such as those captured in halls, theaters, or other large spaces. Consequently, the BS-3D binaural sphere needs fewer "takes" to get usable stereo tracks than most "Dummy Heads", which also require a correction of frequency response that is unnecessary with the BS-3D. BS-3D electronics use THE's superb designs that incorporate highgrade components, ensuring a dynamic range and clarity that rivals laboratory equipment. They offer the depth and smoothness of smaller capsules, yet still maintain a "big" solo sound that makes any instrument immediately "important". This is a whole new generation of the wellknown European 1" format. Excellent on just about anything and fantastic in many applications - particularly in pairs for acoustic guitar, piano, drums. KR-3H Shown with KA-04 ½ Inch HyperCardioid Capsule KR-33A 33mm. Capsule After many years of experimenting with both large-diaphragm tube and FET assemblies, THE has come up with a marriage of tone and depth that captures the best of both worlds. This is a traditional (true-condenser) deep-math German/Russian design, specially modified for our pre-amp assembly to give that large and "important" traditional 33mm sound while retaining a lot of ambient "capture". The 33 mm capsule is engineered to provide a midrange response specifically optimized for the voice. The resulting mic offers the "presence " that many recording engineers seek for a vocal or solo instrument track that cuts smoothly and can therefore can be soft-mixed throughout a recording. Shown with KA-04 Both KR-25A and KR-33A are also available as matched pairs for stereo recordings. NOTE: All capsules are shown mounted over the KA-04 Preamp. Specifications ½” General Purpose Modular Capsule System THE presents a unique set of ½" modular capsules, offering a wide choice of polar patterns for studio, live and other location miking. Our designs are particularly suited for quick capsule changes, with similar dimension and weight profiles engineered into the system. Our modular system offers two types of cardioid, one hypercardioid and two omnidirectional capsules, each engineered to bring specific and highly desirable characteristics, such as a smooth and fast, flat frequency response or a slight shelving at the high ends. THE continues to experiment with exotic capsule characteristics to bring innovations to the modular audio tool kit of moment all based on THE's unique, next-generation electronics. Designed using traditional German/Russian, deep-math acoustic modeling and using a new compound membrane, housing and mounting, these 1" capsules are the true work-horse of the THE line. Our concept was to create a working sculpture that was, in itself, a "state of the art" professional tool that can be used to create magnificent stereo sound recordings for CD, film and TV, and especially for field recording of natural environmental sounds. The BS-3D is the perfect microphone for the engineer who loves to make stereo recordings. It captures the 3D (three dimensional) quality of the source sound, with the added bonus of compatibility in playback on ALL kinds of listening systems - something no other recording method can give. Standard Test Microphone KP-6M Side address Large Diaphragm Cardioìd Capsules This BS-3D Binaural Sphere creates a smooth and integrated acoustic "picture" of what is heard by a pair of human ears that translates perfectly to both headphones and speakers. Created as a "working sculpture", no two spheres are exactly alike in looks but all deliver a stunning stereo image of the recording environment. The natural spectral information is not linearized with any equalization. The smooth, 3-dimensional, stereo sound is achieved solely by integrated design, correct capsule placement and ultra-fast electronics. The measured frequency response is 40 Hz to 20,000 Hz. This capsule is recommended for recording situations were it is necessary to attenuate offaxis sounds, particularly in areas/situations susceptible to acoustic feedback. The KR-3H can be used for vocal dialogue, stringed or solo instruments, percussion and even overhead recording where off-axis rejection (and pulling the sound "forward") is key to the desired effect. Many engineers use KR-3H capsules in boommounted dialogue mic (Film/TV) applications and then turn to use them as an articulate, closesounding X-Y stereo pair for music or sound effects with ease. This capsule is at home in the music studio as it is on stage, film and TV locations. It is equally flattering to voice, music and foley effects. The microphone capsule design is a "true condenser" type and the self-noise is measured at 15 dBA (A-weighted). The maximum capsule SPL is measured at 132 dB.
