The two versions share the same Dual-Driver technology for better phase coherence, as well as Carbon-Fiber membrane speakers. These technologies are not incorporated into the La-115S plus A and P subwoofers. The self-powered version combines the benefits of internal amplification, digital signal processing (DSP), Dual-Driver Technology and carbon-fiber membrane. The entire system has been designed for maximum performance, with a frequency response which is linear and constant, combined with a great capacity for power and dynamic range. A major concern while developing this series has been the use of reliable elements throughout the system. Therefore, we have sought out the dependable components of the highest quality, even though this requires a greater investment in development and manufacture. Dual-Driver Technology in the La-Plus series. The Dual-Driver speaker presents a smooth, less problematic transition between the high pass and the low pass, than that presented by the conventional two-way system. This fact is related to the phase differences between compression driver and speaker: in a two-way system, the distance between the two units causes a phase difference to exist between the high and low frequencies, as we move upwards or downwards away from the central axis. In the transition region between the HF and LF, where the responses from the two passes overlap, these phase differences produce distorted interferences, whose magnitude depends on the relative point of listening as regards to the speakers. A Dual-Driver speaker consists of two speakers mounted on the same axis. The tweeter unit is mounted at the back of the woofer unit core and is coupled to a small diffuser that is positioned in the woofer cone. In a Dual-Driver speaker the frequency response of the loudspeaker is symmetrical around its axis. This means that the frequency response observed in a given angle will be symmetrical to the angle in the opposite direction. The most important advantage of the Dual-Driver is that the crossover transition is undetectable. Figure that shows the Dual-Driver system radiation. 7 Why use a Carbon-Fiber membrane? We have used the Carbon Fiber membrane in the La-8 series plus and LA-12 plus because it is more rigid than other materials, it is extremely clean during the whole production process and it provides outstanding clarity to the low and medium-low frequencies. In addition, the Carbon Fiber is light weight and has a high degree of absorption, and in the case of considerably thick diaphragms, it provides a very good selfabsorption. Speakers with this type of membrane have an excellent piston movement, providing a superb low and medium low frequency response. Advantages of a Carbon-Fiber loudspeaker: - It It It It provides a more transparent sound. gives a better image and depth than any other material. has high efficiency and high peak levels. has very low intermodulation distortion. What would be the ideal diaphragm for a speaker? The ideal speaker diaphragm would have to be an absolutely rigid surface, so that the forward and back movement would be completely 'piston-like' in the reproduction frequency range. This means that the cone surface would not bend at all when it moved. But on the other hand, at complete odds with the above, it would also have to be an infinitely lightweight surface. For a surface to be absolutely rigid and yet infinitely lightweight is impossible. A rigid material means that the surface ripples less in the frequencies we are interested in, however the more rigid it is the more it will move in higher frequencies, and these movements may be much more pronounced. It is therefore also important that the diaphragm material be self-absorbent, i.e., capable of mitigating the energy that resonates on its surface. The impossibility of obtaining these three elements at the same time, are the reason that no cone or diaphragm is perfect, even though some speakers seem to come closer to the ideal speaker than others do. Carbon-Fiber is the material that currently comes closest to this ideal loudspeaker concept. 8 La-8 plus A A two-way, 500W self-powered acoustic chamber. 8" woofer with Carbon-fiber membrane, 1" tweeter with a diffuser in front of the woofer membrane. Bi-amplified system, LF/ 350W, 4 ohm 8" speaker, HF/ 150W 8 ohm. Internal DSP processor with 4 presets selectable from a switch. Highly accurate frequency response, combined with an accurate restoration of the sound image, as well as a SPL high output. La-8 plus A is ideal for high performance, PA systems with or without subwoofers, stage monitors, theaters, audiovisual applications and fixed installations. In conjunction with the La-115S plus A subwoofer, the acoustic chamber La-8 plus A is a very good option for small format PA applications. La-8 plus P A passive acoustic chamber, with the same format and measurements as the selfpowered model. It is extremely easy to change from one version to another. A replacement of the self-powered model for the passive filter model is all that is needed, as the two models have the same measurements. The speaker's faston connectors are connected to the Low output of the passive model and the tweeters faston connectors to the Hi output. 9 AMPLIFIER DESCRIPTION La-8 plus A Amplifier 1) AC INPUT: 70V – 265V Mains Connector type IEC-60320. Use only the appropriate mains cable. 2) FUSE: Do not use a different fuse from the recommended value (3,15A 250V 5 x 20 Fast) 3) POWER: Mains switch. 4) INPUT: XLR input signal connector 1 = Ground 2 = + Signal 3 = - Signal 5) SIGNAL LINK: Output signal XLR connector provides a link for the input signal to link several units with the same audio signal. 6) GAIN: Gain level potentiometer. 7) LIMIT: Red LED indicates amp limiting. 8) TEMPERATURE: Red LED indicates amplifier has reached the maximum temperature. The system will stop working until the temperature decreases. 9) SIGNAL: Green LED indicates signal presence. 10) READY: Green LED Indicates unit is on and working properly. 10 PRESETS La-8 Plus A Front : Applications: FOH (no subs) NEAR FIELD: This preset slightly attenuates the mid-range frequencies for a more natural listening experience when listener is in a close position to the speakers. MONITOR: For stage monitor applications. The Frequency response is corrected to avoid the excess of bass due to the placement of the speaker on the floor. 11 X’OVER: This preset is to use the La-8 Plus A together with a subwoofer. VIETA cannot be held responsible for damage or injury caused by the lack of stability of the supporting structures or by improper installation. The installation personnel must be certified in mounting speakers and rigging techniques, as well as knowing the applicable local safety regulations. Before installation, always inspect all parts for possible defects. If any part is faulty and does not meet the minimum quality requirements, do not use that part. National regulations may exist that require, in the event of an accident, the presentation of inspection and corrective action documents, carried out after the defect was recorded. During installation, use the appropriate personal protective equipment such as a helmet, safety shoes, gloves, etc. In many cases, setting up speakers requires working at elevated heights. Ensure that all staff have appropriate training and are adequately equipped to work in high places, also provide the necessary access equipment (scaffolding, mobile working platforms, harnesses, safety net, etc.). Read all the instructions included with the speakers as well as with the mounting installation parts. If you do not understand all of these instructions, ask for help. Be sure to prohibit all persons from passing below the installation area, during the mounting process. The work area should be cordoned off to avoid public access until the installation works are completed, and the system is tested. Never leave the system during the installation process. As of the publication date of this manual there is no international standard regarding mounting/rigging/hanging an acoustic chamber. Therefore the manufacturing industry accepts, in a standardized manner, to implement the 5:1 safety factor for chambers and static parts. For those parts subject to fatigue due to friction and movement, the following safety factors must be followed; 5:1 for steel wire rope slings, 4:1 for steel chain slings and 7:1 polyester slings. When a system is mounted/rigged/suspended, the workload must be less than the resistance of each individual point of anchorage, as well as each chamber. 15 Applications USE WITH A SUBWOOFER Option 1 Basic configuration including two La-8 plus A o La-8 plus P and one La-115S plus A or La-115S plus P Sub.
