The Master Musicians Festival is the premier midsummer music event in the Lake Cumberland area. Past performers include Counting Crows, Willie Nelson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, The Avett Brothers, St. Paul and the Broken Bones and more. 4 |5 The lake cumberland poker run in September combines the raw fury of more than 150 powerboats with the fun and energy of Mardi Gras. And during August’s LAKE CUMBERLAND RAFT UP participating boats connect in a single line for one minute. The most: 1,651, a Guinness world record in 2010.

THE MILL SPRINGS BATTLEFIELD VISITOR CENTER and Museum in Nancy hosts its annual Civil War camp ghost walk during the fall. The museum displays authentic artifacts from the Battle of Mill Springs and the Civil War era. (606-636-4045)
Nature’s colors alone are worth the drive to Lake Cumberland in September, October and November. But while you’re here, there are a plethora of activities to choose from to complete your visit! With fishing, apple picking, the Mill Springs Battlefield Ghost Walk and a visit to the pumpkin patch on the list, we have the best recipe for fall.
The Road Home Half marathon and DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS ANNUAL 5K GLOW RUN/WALK are just two of many local running events held throughout the year. These fall races benefit the local Habitat for Humanity and scholarship activities for high school students.
More than 250 fishermen from 20 states competed on the waters of Lake Cumberland in 2014 for over $100,000 in prizes. In April 2016, Pulaski County played host to its fifth CRAPPIE USA/KY OUTDOOR ADVENTURE 2-DAY SUPER EVENT in as many years. In addition to crappie, Lake Cumberland is filled with bream, walleye, trout, catfish, striper and five species of bass.

The Center for Rural Development (606-677-6000) and Lake Cumberland Performing Arts offer performances year-round in The Center’s 760-seat theater. The Nutcracker was presented in 2015 by Pep and Pizazz Dance Studio.

Santa claus visits somerset-Pulaski County too, and you can catch a glimpse of him during the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce and City of Burnside Christmas parades in December. Each event includes arts and crafts vendors, and Somerset’s parade concludes with a treelighting ceremony on the square downtown.
Discover the work of Somerset-Pulaski County’s many talented artists during the winter months, at galleries like The Shine House (606-416-5380). The Shine House is a community space for education, creativity, physical movement, and to promote healing of mind/body/spirit, and features open studio time and yoga classes.

From antiques to handmade arts and crafts, shopping options are abundant in the Somerset area. The Sheltowee Artisans have a retail shop on the main floor of the Carnegie Community arts centeR (606-677-0333). The Carnegie is home to FLASHBACK THEATER, plus a variety of art shows, live music and other community gatherings.
Each year in January, the Mill Springs Battlefield Association observes the battle of mill springs, with a service at Zollicoffer Park that commemorates the first Union victory of the Western Theater in the Civil War.

Somerset Community College’s Theatre and Film Department hosts a calendar full of entertaining performances, including Sketches!, a night every April featuring short comic sketches from playwrights all over the United States. FLASHBACK THEATER CO., housed at the Carnegie Community Arts Center, features a season of three to four fully staged productions each year.

Spend a beautiful spring day at the children’s botanical garden of south central kentucky, located next to the Pulaski County Public Library on Main Street. The garden encourages children to use all their senses to connect plants to the sciences, history, literature, and the arts.
