LANDesk System Manager 8 ®
Availability. Security. Performance.
System management: It’s all about performance The power of your computing environment depends on how well each machine performs its tasks. If the hardware and software are healthy, the computer performs and your people can spend time growing your business; if not, your people wait—and so does your business.
Beyond configuration management
LANDesk System Manager 8: Active performance management ®
LANDesk System Manager 8 provides active, hardware-level performance management. Keep individual computers running at peak performance through detailed, component-level information gathering, alerting and maintenance tools for proactive health and security management. ®
LANDesk System Manager 8 enables IT ®
to reach beyond software configuration to provide robust performance management. Proactively monitor both hardware and software components to detect performance problems and intervene before a failure occurs. Gather information directly from the hardware, software and OS to ensure that tools and services are running, healthy and available to users. Extend the power of LANDesk Management Suite with detailed, active performance maintenance. Because in the end, it doesn’t matter how a system is configured if it doesn’t perform.
Monitor individual hardware and software components in real-time Establish performance thresholds and configure alerts to immediately notify staff of problems Maintain machine health with remote connect, Wake-On-LAN and BIOS flash tools Secure systems by detecting asset changes, chassis intrusion and modem use Plan maintenance needs with historical performance reports and data analysis
Keep each system healthy and critical services available with active performance management.
Detailed information-gathering for all PC hardware platforms LANDesk System Manager 8 extends the power of LANDesk Management Suite 8 by gathering health and status information directly from the computer’s hardware, software and OS in real-time. LANDesk System Manager 8 uses industry-standard data sources, including CIM, WBEM, WfM, WMI and SMBIOS for a complete view of component-level system health regardless of configuration. Monitor both application availability and hardware components such as processor temperature, fan speed, bus voltage and more. Automatic ASIC detection and monitoring enables IT to monitor hardware from most system vendors.

System Manager
A resident agent gathers information directly from hardware and software components to give IT staff a complete picture of system health—in real time. Configurable alerts make sure IT knows immediately when problems occur.
Robust alerting keeps IT informed of system status LANDesk System Manager 8 supports the latest alerting standards and technologies to ensure that IT knows when system intervention is needed. Configure alerts to be sent by email, pager, fax or console message. Write alert messages to log files automatically. Even launch software utilities or batch files to instantly respond to recurring problems or perform standard maintenance tasks. Start and stop server processes and services, or cycle power remotely to help ensure that critical services remain available to users. Even configure an alert event that automatically restarts a stopped service for hands-off maintenance.
Extended security LANDesk System Manager 8 extends both physical asset and data security. Actively monitor hardware and software configurations and define alerts to notify IT of changes. Track fixed assets such as hard drives or RAM, as well as peripheral devices attached to the USB bus such as printers, removable drives or handhelds. Real-time alerting on change enables IT to maintain strong system security. System Manager can also monitor a computer’s modem usage and log the phone number called by each modem connection. Real-time alerting enables IT to track unauthorized modem use the instant it occurs so they can stop security breaches and keep your data safe.
Advanced troubleshooting and crash recovery LANDesk System Manager 8 enables both advanced troubleshooting and expanded root cause analysis after the crash. Store historical performance data for key components, then analyze that data to identify overall trends and pinpoint the specific component failures that trigger system failures. Use that knowledge to plan updates and predict many failures before the fact. LANDesk System Manager 8 leverages technologies such as SMBIOS that are already built into modern motherboards and network interfaces to enable out of band access and control. That means you can quickly recover and automatically restart standards-compliant hardware to ensure maximum system availability.
Information is only useful when IT can act on it in a timely manner. LANDesk System Manager 8 creates high system security and availability by keeping IT informed.
