Laptop Procedures for Classroom Use Please pick up laptops the day before you need them. Check with the ITS. The following are the steps that need to be taken in setting up, handing out, and taking up of the laptops. Setting Up 1. Move the carts to where you are going to be keeping them. * The cart with the printer needs to be placed by the teacher desk where the network drops are. 2. Plug in the printer network cord to one of the open network drops. 3. The carts need to be plugged into outlets so the laptops can charge. (Preferably the orange outlets if the carts will fit in the space.) 4. Flip on the orange power switch on the back of each cart. 5. Keep the doors locked and keys hidden until you are ready to use the laptops. ** The first day that you get the laptop carts you will need to have your first period students turn on the laptops when they get to their desk. Handing out laptops 1. Prior to using the laptops with any of your classes, you should have filled out the Laptop checkout Form (should get this from the CTT) with all of the students’ names. 2. Inform the students of their computer number. 3. Open one laptop cart at a time and call groups of 5 up to get their laptop. The teacher pulls out and unplugs the laptop from the cart. 4. When the students get back to their desk have them open the laptop and check for damage. Report any damage once you are done passing out laptops. 5. NO FOOD or DRINK around the laptops. 6. Have the student login and wait for further directions. Taking up Laptops 1. With 5 to 10 minutes left in class tell the students to save and LOG OFF not shutdown. ** (If it is the last scheduled day to have the laptops then your last period needs to shutdown the laptops.) 2. When the laptop gets back to the login screen the student can close the lid and bring you the laptop. 3. The teacher needs to open the lid and turn the laptop upside down and shake. Check for any damage and then close and store the laptop till the next period. 4. Close the doors and lock the carts till the next class is ready to use them. End of day/ Last day 1. After your last class of the day, make sure the carts have all of the laptops and the doors are closed and locked. 2. If it is your last scheduled day with the laptops, then make sure each of the laptops are turned off. 3. Hide the keys if you are leaving the room or make sure your door is locked. 4. Leave the carts plugged in and on.
