In the past 5 years, HP alone has recycled 31 million LaserJet cartridges, diverting around 40 thousand tons of waste from landfill sites around the world. This is the approximate weight of 500 Boeing 747 plane.

Throughout the world millions of tons of hard, non-biodegradable plastic and loose toner powder are deposited in landfill sites and incinerators from cartridges and inkjets which ought to be recycled.

The average toner cartridge weighs 3 lbs. That’s about 120 million lbs that could be recycled every year.

Laserjet cartridges are 40% plastic, 40% metal and small amounts of paper, foam, rubber, and toner. Altogether, it contains about 97% recyclable materials. Department of Recycling and Resource Management
