These instructions are a guide to help you get the most out of it, as well as covering the important safety information you need to know when using a carrier. Even when your child has outgrown its use you can adapt the carrier into family size rucksack - the Familypack – listed in ‘Accessories’ on our website. In the seat area the webbings are colour-coded to show which are adjustable. Helping to give the most comfort and security for your child. With someone - Pick up the carrier with both hands holding on to the side of the main frame. With the Elite this is assisted by placing your hands through the plastic covered red guide loops. Getting the most comfortable fit for you 1. Fitting the hip belt First position the hip belt correctly, with the centre of the hip belt covering your hip bone , so the hips can help support the load. Position and tighten the hip belt as tight as possible. Pull down and backwards on the two webbing straps ‘D’. The weight distribution should be 70% hips 30% shoulders. 2. Adjusting the back system (Do this at home - before you take the carrier out with a child). Before adjusting, study the way the strap has been fed through the webbing ladder, this will help during re-assembly. 1. Simply rip apart the ‘Velcro webbing’ strap ‘A’, which secures the adult carrying harness to the back system. 2. Slide the Velcro-webbing strap out from the adjustment ladder ‘B’. 3. When you have decided the correct height position, simply re-feed the Velcrowebbing strap through the two of the webbing loops that are the same colour. 4. Secure ‘Velcro webbing’ strap ‘A’ firmly in place. 5. (Elite & Premier carriers only). If you adjust the carrier to a lower setting, take from the upper and re-feed into the lower tensioning buckle. (See diagram, right). 6. (Elite & Premier carriers only). The blue / red tab on top of the shoulder strap is a guide as to the position of the strap. The blue / red tab should be on the top of your shoulder. Upper tension buckles. 1. Adjusting the seat height At 6mths the seat height should be at its lowest, which gives more all round support to a young child. You should raise the seat at 6 month intervals until approx 18-24 months. Then the seat height should go down in stages toward the lowest setting to give some back support. It is not odd for a 2 year old’s feet to be touching the ground when the carrier is on the floor. 2. How to load your child safely The easiest position to load the child is by standing at the pocket side of the carrier, so that one of your feet can stand on the bar that runs inside the main compartment. This helps to keep the carrier steady. Always make sure that the child is correctly harnessed in and that the harness has been adjusted correctly every time you use the carrier. 1. Pull out the support leg until you hear a click, so that the carrier can stand (Travelite Carrier only). 2. Loosen the side straps and make the child seat area as wide as possible. 3. Unclip the child harness buckles. 4. Lower the child into the seat area (fig 1 & 2). 5. Raise or lower the child's seat to suit your child (see adjusting the seat height). 3. How to secure your child 1. Pass the webbing harness straps over the child's shoulders and re-clip the harness buckles. 2. Tighten the childs harness, by lengthening / shortening the webbing under the fleece straps. Never use a carrier without the harness fitted snuggly. Fig 1. Lower tension buckles. Fig 2. 3 . Pull on the side wing straps to draw the child seat in towards the harness (as close as possible). 4. Once you have picked up the carrier, pull the support leg back in until you hear a click. (Travelite Carrier only). NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A CHILD CARRIER. The shoulder straps must fit closely. At most you should be able to only get a single finger between shoulder straps and you, then take a deep breath in & lift your arms. The hip belt MUST stay in position on your hips. If the hip belt lifts onto your stomach the back setting is too short. If there is too much gap above your shoulder, the back setting is too long (and needs to be made shorter). WARNING ONLY USE THE CARRIER WHEN STANDING OR WALKING. The carrier should not be used as a chair unless it is supported and is constantly attended by an adult. NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN ANY CARRIER AS THEY ARE LIABLE TO TOPPLE OVER. THE CHILD CARRIER HAS AN INTENDED FUNCTION OF CARRYING ONE CHILD. It is not to be used as a seat or high chair. Micro Carrier The Micro carrier has a non-adjusting back system. For loading and carrying instructions, please see section‘ How to load and secure your child’. Comfort pack. The fleece sleep cushion and fleece straps (comfort pack) can be removed and washed either by hand or in a washing machine at 40. On your own - If you are on your own the best way to pick up your carrier is to take it to a ‘half-way station’, such as a settee, park bench, back seat of the car. Holding the top grab handle crouch down and put your other arm through a loosened shoulder strap (DO NOT LET GO). Then put your other arm the other shoulder strap. Stand up, click the main buckle & then adjust the hip belt as normal. Foot loops. The foot loops attach to the side wings of the carrier, they help to support the legs of the older child (in the same way stirrups do on a saddle). Designed by Bushbaby to alleviate the discomfort caused to the child's legs that otherwise would hang down. Place your childs foot into the loop and adjust to fit. Set the foot loop height so that the child's leg is slightly bent . If you have to lift the carrier from the floor, bend your leg and lift it on to your knee. Put your arm through one shoulder strap then the other.
