Operating Instructions LD-TA/LD-TB transmitter 1. General Information 2. Procedure: The LD-TA/LD-TB transmitters from Trotec amplify the sounds generated by leaks and present them either as optic or acoustic information before transmitting them via radio link to the central unit. 2.1 Sensor port 1.1 Sound Reception: The sensor is connected to the BNC port (fig. A, ). The type of sensor depends on the measuring distance, the material and the pressure. Type of Sensor The easiest method to pick up a signal is to put sound receptors that are fixed by magnets onto the accessible parts of the pipe system (valve rods, hydrants, drains, household installations etc.). Because this reception method picks up the structureborne sound transmitted by the pipe and not the sound generated by the water, the sound reaches the point of reception with less intensity. This is especially the case when such a method is carried out using long or synthetic pipes. Hydrophones can be used as a means of intensifying the signal. Hydrophones are in direct contact with the liquid and can be placed at hydrants, water meters, drains etc. Pipe Length Sensor Trotec Standard PVC, PE steel, cast iron, asbestos cement < 20 m Sensor Trotec l/Low f/Frequency PVC, PE steel, cast iron, asbestos cement 200 m 10 - 40 m 100 - 300 m Hydrophone PVC, PE steel, cast iron, asbestos cement > 30 m > 200 m Selecting the Sensor 2.2 Operating the transmitter a) Powering up Use the ON/OFF key to power up the device. 1.2 Transmitter with Signal Amplifier: The signals that the sensor picks up are amplified in the transmitter. The intensity of the sound generated by the leak is displayed on the LCD. The signal can either be amplified manually or automati cally and then transmitted via radio link to the correlator where it is then assessed. Fig. A – Transmitter connection points Material Amplification is performed automatically, the current sound level (fig. B, ) and the minimum sound level (fig. B, ) are shown on the display. b) Powering off Use the ON/OFF key to power off the transmitter. The software version appears briefly on the display. Fig. B – Transmitter control panel Antenna (BNC) ON /OFF Compartment for Display of the current sound level oscillator receptor Headphone jack Input for oscillator receptor (BNC) Charging connection Numerical display of the lowest sound level during measuring (1-999) Battery charge level (rest capacity) Display of the selected frequency (high/low) 2 Display of the amplification (dynamic amplification during measuring) Operating Instructions LD-TA/LD-TB transmitter EN c) Changing the frequency It may become necessary to change the frequency. This depends on the type of material which the pipe is made of and the length of the pipe in question. 2.4 General information on charging the transmitter Display information during and after charging Number left When charging has been carried out correctly, a number with one of the following meanings is shown: 1: Charging cutoff due to delta peak 2: Charging cutoff due to overrun 3: Charging cutoff because end-ofcharge voltage exceeded Number block middle current voltage at the rechargeable batteries Battery right The battery capacity that has been reached is shown while the rechargeable batteries are being charged. High: Metallic pipes: AC pipes: Length of pipe < 100 m Length of pipe < 80 m Low: Metallic pipes: AC pipes/ Length of pipe > 100 m Synthetic pipes: Length of pipe > 80 m When the device has been powered up, press the ON/OFF key (fig. B, ) and keep pressed until the frequency symbol on the display changes (fig. B, ). Miscellaneous 2.3 Dynamic amplification on / off The transmitter adjusts to the optimal amplification automatically after powering up. In addition you may wish to select a setting for the device which allows the amplification to be continuously adjusted according to the sound level on the pipe. Powering off LD-TA/LD-TB powers off automatically when a key is not pressed for 60 minutes. Housing Waterproof IP 65 Headphone jack 6.3 mm jack; volume can be adjusted at headphones Press the ON/OFF key (fig. B, ) and keep pressed until the desired symbol appears on the display (fig. B, ) while the device is powering up.
