learn, achieve, love, believe 3rd March 2017 World Book Day! We are sure you will agree that the children and adults looked fabulous yesterday on World Book Day. The whole school enjoyed workshops run by children’s author and poet, Ian Bland which looked at writing, performing and the structure of poems. Well done to Declan Mackimm-Davies, Erin O’Brien, Matthew Makinson, Bethany Barrow, Peter Hurst, Joel Yacob and Ellis Bates who won their class prizes for the best outfit. They all received a £5 voucher. Each child also took home a £1 book voucher. The voucher can be spent in eligible book shops on a selection of £1 books by famous authors or used towards the purchase of a book. PARENTS EVENING Thank you to all parents who were able to come to Parents Evening this week. We had a great turnout of supportive parents. Thank you also to everyone who filled in and returned a questionnaire. Your comments are always listened to and appreciated. THEME This week’s theme is “Reflection”. During our Collective Worship we talked about how Lent can be a period of reflection as well as a time to give up things. We also talked about how Jesus went into the wilderness to reflect, and how he resisted temptation for 40 days and 40 nights. Reverend Ruiters came in to talk to us about Ash Wednesday. PRAYER Dear Lord Thank you that in the business of life there are times to stop and to think. Help us never to be so busy that we don’t have time to be peaceful and silent. Thank you for times such as Lent that remind us to think about you and to consider what we can do to help those less fortunate than we are. Please help us always to ‘be prepared’ to help other people. Amen THOUGHT PLEASE KEEP OUR SCHOOL GATES SMOKE FREE! Milnrow Parish is proud to be a Smoke Free School. We have had a number of complaints from parents and children about people smoking outside the school gates. Please respect our school grounds and surrounding areas including around our school gates by not smoking. We appreciate your support. POSITIVE PARENTING COURSE We are pleased to be able to offer all Parents/ Guardians a 12 week, Positive Parenting Course from Thursday 20th April from 9.15 to 11.15. The aim of the course is to help reduce stress levels at home by offering help and advice on how to manage children’s behaviour in a positive way. We would love parents to come along and share their ideas and expertise. You will be able to meet other parents and have the opportunity offload in a friendly and relaxed group. Information has also been posted on our school noticeboard. If you would like to know more and sign up for the 12 week course please pop into the school office of telephone the school on 01706 643973 and ask to speak to Mrs Harrop. RECEPTION, YEARS 1 AND 2 - “SMILE TIME” - NEW ORAL HEALTH SCHEME Letters have been sent home to all children in Reception Class and Years 1 and 2 from the Oral Health Team. Please ensure that you sign and return the consent form so that your child can take part in the “Smile Time” initiative. On 16th March from 9.00am all children in KS1 will be shown how to keep their mouths healthy by brushing their teeth effectively. It is a really important thing for children to learn. Please return the signed forms by Monday 6th March 2017. NEW READING INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE A LOVE OF READING MY BRILLIANT BOOKSHELF Children in Reception Class and years 1, 2 and 3 will be given the opportunity to choose a book to take home alongside their reading book to share with parents. This book does not replace their reading scheme book but is to promote their enthusiasm and widen their knowledge of books and authors. These books are from our school library and will be changed within the term by school staff. READING ROAD Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will alternate between their reading scheme book and a book of their choice from the reading corner in their class. This is their Reading Road book. This should be treated in the same way as their normal reading book with reading records being signed at least three times a week. Once your child has finished their reading book this should be recorded in their reading record. If you have any questions about this fun new initiative please speak to your child’s class teacher. AND THIS WEEK’S AWARDS GO TO…….. Read on to find out which children were presented with awards this week. Each week the award winners are presented with their certificates in our Celebration Assembly. They have their photographs taken and the Reader of the Week is allowed to use the class e-reader to read their favourite book. If your child comes home with an award it means they have worked really hard and have been chosen from a classful of their peers so don’t forget to give them plenty of praise.
