It would be similar to trying to demonstrate color broadcast on a black-and-white television. Using LeoCapture, you can create accurate video clips montaged in real time about the use of Leonar3Do and the results of your work. The basic principle behind the application is to be able to pass the same information to the monitor and a camera at the same time, so that the camera "sees" the same virtual object you're working on, in the space in front of the monitor, from its own angle of view. Thus we don't use tricks like photo editing—the video recording allows the viewer to perceive exactly the same image that the Leonar3Do user is encountering. LeoCapture enables anyone to view and comprehend the things created in the virtual world using Leonar3Do, without a 3D camera and 3D player. Below you can find a detailed description about how to use LeoCapture. Please read it carefully, and follow the step-by-step instructions. You may start by watching the video attached to the operating instructions of LeoCapture to get an overview of the program. BASICS To capture videos, you need a computer configuration with Leonar3Do properly installed and configured, and a standard video capturing device connected to the computer. Such a device can be a simple USB webcam, or a streaming video camera connected through FireWire or USB. What is important is that Windows must be able to detect and manage it as a video capturing device. Video capturing requires running three applications simultaneously: 1. the Leonar3Do system software with the basic Leonar3Do features; 2. LeoCapture for creating montaged videos; 3. an application using Leonar3Do, about the use of which the videos will be created. Videos are recorded in XVID format. 3 LeoCapture – User Guide It is recommended to use two monitors for recording—on one you will use Leonar3Do, while on the other, you can display the captured video. If you have only one monitor, you can use the Auto Hide feature to make the parallel usage of LeoCapture and the recorded Leonar3Dousing application more convenient. (You can read more about Auto Hide below.) USER INTERFACE Display area Panel toggle buttons User interface Panel box The application window consists of two major parts: the display area and the user interface. The display area shows the camera image in its original, processed and montaged form. The user interface facilitates application control. It consists of four panels, appearing in the panel box. To switch between the panels, you can use the panel toggle buttons. VIDEO SETTINGS PANEL Camera list Stop button Video format list Start button Device Settings button Camera list: Choose the camera for capturing from the list of connected devices. Video format list: Choose the supported video format (resolution, image quality) for capturing. Start button: Starts the selected camera. Stop button: Stops the running camera. Device Settings button: Displays the settings dialog for the selected camera. The dialog may vary according to camera model and driver. 4 LeoCapture – User Guide TRACKING PANEL Start Tracking button Signs size box Focus box Threshold slider Track Focus check box Show Threshold Image button Camera aspect radio buttons Start Tracking button: Toggles monitor detection on the camera image. Toggle on to display identification marks on the monitor used for Leonar3Do. These help the program find the monitor's position in the camera image. Threshold slider: Controls the brightness threshold used for the camera image. To detect the identification marks, the program first produces a black-and-white image. Pixels brighter than the threshold are treated as white, darker ones as black. Choose a threshold which allows the program to detect the identification marks as reliably as possible. Show Threshold Image button: This is another toggle button. Toggle on to show which pixels are treated as black and as white according to the selected threshold. This feature helps you choose a proper threshold value. Camera aspect radio buttons: Specifies the image aspect ratio of the camera. For proper position detection, the program has to know the actual aspect ratio of the camera. Usually this is identical to the image size ratio of the camera image, meaning the camera typically provides regular square-shaped pixels. In such a case, select Native Aspect. Some video modes, however, may produce a horizontally or vertically stretched image. Frequent aspects are 4:3 and 16:9, but you can specify any ratio by selecting Other. Improper size aspects can easily be spotted in the camera image. The detected monitor and the montaged objects appear distorted and/or dislocated. Signs size box: Specifies the size of the identification marks displayed on the monitor. Larger marks can also be detected by cameras with lower resolution or placed further from the monitor, while smaller ones often go undetected. Select a size that still allows reliable detection. Focus box: Specifies camera focus distance. If Track Focus is selected, the program detects this value automatically. Track Focus check box: Select this check box for automatic focus distance detection. If your camera has a fixed lens and is unable to zoom, leave this option selected when you start to detect the monitor, and turn it off later—since focus distance is fixed, there's no need to recalculate it continuously. 5 LeoCapture – User Guide RECORD VIDEO PANEL File Name box Record video Hotkey box Turn on Auto hide button Record video button Turn on Auto hide Hotkey box Frames Per Second box File Name box: Specifies the path and name of the file to be saved. The exact time of capture start is appended to the file name you enter. Use the button on the right to browse for a file. Record video button: Starts/stops video capture. Record video Hotkey box: Specifies the hotkey for starting/stopping video capture. To change it, click in the text box and press the desired hotkey. You should change this setting if the previously selected hotkey is already used in the application you wish to capture. Turn on Auto hide button: Toggles Auto Hide mode on/off. If Auto Hide is on, the LeoCapture program window is automatically hidden if you move the mouse towards it. You may want to turn this feature on for recording, so that you can conveniently use the application being captured and view the recorded image at the same time. Turn on Auto hide Hotkey box: Specifies the hotkey for toggling Auto Hide mode on/off. Frames Per Second box: Specifies recording frame rate. The blue FPS field displays the frames per second rate measured on the camera. POP-UP MENU Right-click to display a pop-up menu.  Show Interface: Shows/hides the user interface.  Visualization: Specifies what is shown in the display area. o Original Image: Original, unmodified image from the camera. o Processed Image: Detected identification marks and the monitor highlighted in the camera image. o AR Image: The final, montaged image to be recorded.  Full Screen: Maximizes the LeoCapture application window to full screen. 6 LeoCapture – User Guide Trademarks. 3D for All, the 3D for All logo and Leonar3Do are trademarks or registered trademarks of 3D for All Ltd.
