Former University of Hertfordshire student Danielle Carter also started and finished the friendly in Seville. The Gunners shot out of the blocks and took the lead in the sixth minute courtesy of Nobbs’ stunner as she took aim and arrowed a 30-yard effort into the IN BRIEF Cod Youth round-up: U8s hammer Rangers FOOTBALL: Cian and Charlie both bagged two goals as Codicote U8s beat Bury Rangers Blacks 5-2. Joshua scored the other goal. The U10s were beaten 1-0 at Harpenden Colts. Frankie picked up the man-of-thematch award. Freddie scored a last-minute winner as the U11s beat Hertford Heath Juniors U11s. Callum and Zack were also on target. Codicote U7s were soundly beaten by Hatfield Town U7s on Saturday. Man-of-the-match William grabbed a consolation for Cod. On Sunday, only the U14s’ game survived the weather but they lost 5-2 against BSCFC Town. top corner. The lead was almost lost on the brink of half-time but Bayern Munich captain Melanie Behringer’s 20-yard free-kick was well saved by Sari Van Veneendal. Five minutes into the second period, the Germans were level when Sara Dabritz tapped the ball past substitute keeper Emma Byrne. On the hour mark, Arsenal were back in front. Carter found substitute Natalia Pablos Sanchon who hammered home into the back of the net with ease. With just over 10 minutes to go, Pablos Sanchon doubled her tally when her chip from the edge of the box ricocheted off the crossbar and in. ■ Arsenal will host Reading Ladies in their 2016 Women’s Super League opener on Wednesday, March 23 after the new fixtures were released. Pegasus had most of the early play but it was Stevenage who took the lead with a wellworked goal giving Luke Laurence, the Royals stand-in keeper, no chance. Welwyn levelled things just before half-time when Alex Manhood quickly closed the Borough keeper down as he was just about to kick clear, and his resulting hoof cannoned in off the Royals man. The match winner was the result of some great Pegasus build-up play and it was left to Manhood to coolly fire past the Stevenage keeper. Stevenage had a chance to level things up when they were awarded a late penalty but the kick was put wide off the post and Pegasus hung on for the knockout win. YOUTH FOOTBALL Teen makes Irish debut An Onslow St Audrey’s School pupil has made his debut for the Northern Ireland U15 team. Goalkeeper Tiernan Parker travelled to Scotland to represent the nation in a match against Glasgow Rangers, which his side lost 1-0. Parker, who plays for Luton Town’s U15s, has been in impressive form so far this season and been rewarded with international recognition. He said: “The experience of being selected to represent the team was great. “It felt really natural playing alongside them and even though we didn’t take victory in this match I’m looking forward to playing with them in the future.” Parker will now get a further taste of international football as he now has a place in the Victory Shield squad. That tournament will see Northern Ireland take on England, Wales and Scotland later in the year. ■ Dave Iwediuno handed Codicote the lead at league pacesetters Crawley Green but they could not hang on SSML DIVISION ONE CRAWLEY GREEN .............................. 2 CODICOTE.............................................1 Once again a late suckerpunch saw Codicote stumble to defeat against league leaders Crawley Green. Just as in the previous encounter on the opening day of the season at Gosling Stadium when Codicote lost 1-0 via an 85th minute Henry Mungwira strike, the Villagers looked comfortable against Green but were made to pay for a lapse in concentration at the death. Codicote welcomed back Joel Mason while both full-back Michael Etienne and Phil Smeaton were missing. The visitors made all the early running as they played up the slope at Barton Rovers FC, Green’s tempo- rary home. Ex-Barton player Ricky Case danced his way through the Crawley defence but when it looked an easy pass into the back of the net, the striker only found the keeper’s hands. Then on 20 minutes, Mason’s perfect ball set Iwediuno through clean on goal only to be hauled down on the edge of the box. Up stepped Case to blast high and wide. Crawley were living dangerously but somehow managed to make it to half-time with their clean sheet intact. The second half saw more of the same as the visitors pressed the home side and with 50 minutes gone Codicote finally got their reward. Once again excellent football from Cod left Iwediuno space to slot the ball past a static keeper. Case, suffering with cramp, was replaced by Sam Stephenson and the striker nearly had an immediate impact. However, his free-kick was somehow turned over the bar. But with Codicote in control they should have been out of sight and as the half went on, Crawley started to create some pressure of their own. With the game now into the final minutes, Crawley grabbed an equaliser. The away side failed to clear the ball and it sat up nicely for Mark Bunker to race onto and smash past McEwan. Crawley now had the bit between their teeth and McEwan had to make another save before Crawley grabbed a second nine minutes into stoppage time. A mix-up between Sam James and Tom Gornall allowed Liam Toomey to slot the ball past the despairing McEwan. ■ Tiernan Parker who has made his Northern Ireland U15 debut
