17” attachable tv installation and set-up Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the installation responsibilities for the facility and for Life Fitness ®? Fitness Facility Responsibilities Source a video content supplier (standard cable TV or satellite TV supplier). Ensure that electrical power (outlet or circuit) is available for each piece of Attachable TV-equipped cardio equipment; we recommend that customers consult a local professional electrician for the installation of all electrical service. Run video cable from the video source (typically a standard cable or satellite TV source) to each Attachable TV-equipped cardio unit; we recommend that customers consult a professional video cable installer to ensure optimal wiring and signal strength of the cable feed. Note: It is highly recommended that power and video/cable source be run to the unit prior to installation to ensure cardio equipment is working properly. If power and/or video cable are not available at the time of delivery, the fitness facility will assume final responsibility for connecting video and power to the unit. Life Fitness Responsibilities Deliver and install Attachable TVs. If the video cable has been run and electrical power is present, the installation will include unpacking, assembly and testing of the TV. For power requirements, see question 2 on page 2. Provide all warranty services as stated in the Operation Manual. What are the power requirements for cardio equipment with an Attachable TV? Equipment Treadmill Attachable TV Attachable TV: Treadmill: Elliptical Cross-Trainer Lifecycle ® Exercise Bikes Stairclimber Dedicated 120 Volt, 60 Hz, and 20 Amp circuit in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and Japan. Dedicated 200+ Volt, 50-60 Hz and 10 Amp circuit for all other countries. Please refer to your Treadmill Operation Manual for more information. Ellliptical Cross-Trainer: Self-Powered Attachable TV: An AC power line is required for the Attachable TV (non-dedicated). Lifecycle Bike: Self-Powered Attachable TV: An AC power line is required for the Attachable TV (non-dedicated). Stairclimber: Summit Trainer An AC power line is required for the Attachable TV (non-dedicated). The AC power line plugs directly into the Elevation™ Series Treadmill, so an additional outlet is not required. Attachable TV: Stairclimber: Self-Powered An AC power line is required for the Attachable TV (non-dedicated). Self-Powered 3. Does the Attachable TV have a built-in digital tuner? Yes. The Life Fitness 17” Attachable TV has an NTSC/ATSC tuner which can receive both analog and digital TV signals 4. How are the external power and video cable connected to the Attachable TVs? The TV signal is delivered to each piece of equipment using a 75-ohm coaxial cable with an F-connector. Either RG-59 or RG-6 cable is fine. Have your service provider ensure that the signal level at the machine is 72 dBuV +/ - 25 dB. This is equivalent to +12 dBmV, and includes the range of -13 dBmV to +37 dBmV. These levels are acceptable for both analog and digital TV signals. Customers must run the video cable from the connector on the bottom front of the treadmill, the under-side of the cross-trainer, bikes, steppers and summit trainers from the facility feed. 5. How many Attachable TVs can be connected to a circuit breaker? Please contact your cable installer for country-specific regulations to determine amplifier, splitter, etc. needs for the quantity and position of equipment in your facility. Each Attachable TV uses 150 VA of power – or about 1.5 Amps at 120 volts. While a 15 Amp breaker at 120 volts can support about 10 Attachable TVs, and a 20 Amp breaker at 120 volts can support about 13, this is maximum rating per electrical characteristic so we recommend 9 Attachable TVs per 15 Amp or 12 Attachable TVs per 20 Amp. 6. Can power for the Attachable TVs be daisy chained? The Attachable TVs are not able to plug into each other; however, low power consumption does allow Attachable TVs to share a circuit. Life Fitness recommends a maximum of 9 Attachable TVs per 15 Amp line or 12 Attachable TVs per 20 Amp line. 2 Call Life Fitness Customer Service and Support with any further questions. See page 6 for contact information. 17” attachable tv installation and set-up Frequently Asked Questions 7. How many pieces of equipment can one video cable feed accommodate? Video quality depends on the cable strength. Video feed will most likely have to be amplified if there are more than two to three pieces of equipment. The cable company will be able to provide amplifiers, splitters, etc. Any questions dealing with cable to the equipment and country-specific regulations should go to the cable installer. 8. Can the video cable connected to the Attachable TVs be split? The cable source can be split assuming sufficient signal strength is present. Cable signal strength varies by facility, and facilities should consult their local cable company to determine cabling needs and country-specific regulations. 9. Why is the signal strength different on my new 17” Attachable TVs versus my old TVs? Every TV has different incoming signal criteria for its own tuner specification. The 17” Attachable TV tuner requires higher incoming signal strength to display higher resolution pictures. 10. What is needed for encrypted cable or satellite cable? A head-end system which is a group of cable or satellite set-up boxes (one per desired channel), modulators and combiners is needed to decrypt the signal and deliver channels to each TV. You can purchase the necessary equipment from your TV service provider and AV retailer. Setting up a head-end system allows the use of Life Fitness provided TV controls; the Attachable TV controls cannot operate a cable or satellite set-top box. 11. Can the signal be split between two Attachable TVs from one satellite receiver? No. Satellite receivers do not have dual outputs. 12. What are the Attachable TV’s video input systems? Video 1: RF Video 2: VGA Video 3: High definition input jack Video 4: S-Video Video 5: Composite 13. Can the 17” Attachable TV support MPEG- 4 ? No. The TV supports MPEG-2 video but not MPEG-4 video. 14. Can users plug iPod ®, MP 3 Players, DVD players, CD players and laptops directly into the Attachable TV? Yes. It is possible to connect DVD players, CD players and laptops by plugging a cable into the S-Video, RCA or VGA connectors. Use of these devices is not recommended while running on a treadmill. Mounting of equipment and cables is the responsibility of the user or facility. 3 Call Life Fitness Customer Service and Support with any further questions. See page 6 for contact information. 17” attachable tv installation and set-up Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions 15.
