Windows* tablets are both end user– and IT-friendly, and easy to operate and manage “Intel-based Windows tablets managed within LabTech let us improve our profitability because we can actually manage them. In the end, it also saves our clients money— which they can spend on more technology. It’s a win-win.”
SLPowers deploys Intel®-based Windows* tablets that let clients “actually do work and conduct business” With offices across the southeastern United States, SLPowers delivers enterpriseclass IT support to the small and medium business market. In business since 1985, the managed service provider sees its mission as “taking care of everything for you on your network: client to server, tablet to PC,” says Tim Meuter, network operations center director. “We’re seasoned—and whether you want us onsite as part of your existing IT department, or you want a managed services contract where we service you remotely—we are here to bring you IT peace of mind.”

SLPowers supports clients in Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and New Jersey and relies on remote management tools for many of their tasks. And until the company began deploying Intel®-based Windows* devices, they faced real challenges in the remote servicing of tablets. “We couldn’t see iPads or Android devices within our LabTech RMM tool, which made it difficult to manage errors remotely. Whenever there was a tablet problem, we had to send our clients a document with screen shots and coach them through troubleshooting the device themselves. But with a Windows tablet we can manage it just like any PC. We treat it like a desktop and script LabTech to run on it. It’s essentially a PC, which is awesome,” says Meuter. The user experience clients expect—in a lightweight package Many of SLPowers clients travel often or work in nontraditional office locations. They need a lightweight, mobile device.

“Many of our customers are looking toward tablets because they’re easier to travel with, and you can get through security faster. In addition, the fact that Intel-based tablets run Windows and the user experience is the same is a big plus. With a Windows tablet, you have a desktop and you have Word and Excel open and you can actually do work and conduct business,” explains Meuter. He continues. “On a Windows tablet, users can multitask much more easily than on an iPad or an Android tablet, and use the device for many more line-ofbusiness applications.”
Increasing sales volume in a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, and legal Some of SLPowers’ manufacturing and retail customers are already using Windows tablets. “We have about 50 of them deployed, but I can imagine that volume will only grow as customers become more aware of the devices. For instance, there’s a real practical application with law firms. If you’re at trial, you want to be able to power on and get information quickly and easily,” says Meuter. He also sees the Intel-based Windows tablets as a good fit in a retail environment. “In restaurants, for sure, because they’re light and touch-capable. You can put a protective sleeve on it. Or for conducting inventory. There are so many possibilities.” Helping to differentiate and demonstrate value He and the team at SLPowers believe that Intel-based Windows tablets give them a competitive advantage. “Windows tablets let us differentiate from our competitors. We can show our clients the real value of using a device that we can monitor and protect,” says Meuter.
