You can switch to another 「Audio Device」 only if you configured the settings for the related 「Audio Device」. If the settings are not configured, the 「Audio Device」 will be set to 「None」.
V.
Record Audio If the 「Audio Options」 are not set, you may not record audio properly. Most of the settings are required in Windows XP, but if you are using Windows Vista/7, you can record audio with the default settings. With liteRecorder, you can record audio by using 「Computer Sound」, 「Microphone」 and 「Custom」. It is very important to select a proper device to record audio from the 3 types of devices mentioned earlier. You can record audio by following the steps shown below and you will find it easy to record. Set up 「Audio Options」 (Only the 1st time) → Select 「Audio Device」 → Select 「File Type」 → Start Recording → Play If the 「Audio Options」 are set already, you can follow the steps as shown below. Select 「Audio Device」 → Select 「File Type」 → Start Recording → Play You can see a list of 「Audio Format」 supported by liteRecorder as shown in the picture below.
List of 「Audio Format」 Shown
The default settings for the 「Audio Format」 are 「Stereo, 16 bits, 44KHz(CD Quality, Default)」 in Windows XP and 「System Default Settings(Only available for Windows Vista/7」 in Windows Vista/7. Generally, if you select 「System Default Settings(Only available for Windows Vista/7」, you will record audio with the 「Audio Format」 of 「Stereo, 16 bits, 44KHz(CD Quality)」 or 「Stereo, 16 bits, 48KHz(DVD Quality)」. It means that the audio quality recorded with 「System Default Settings(Only available for Windows Vista/7」 is better than the one for 「Mono, 16 bits, 22KHz(Radio Quality, Default)」 in Windows XP. You can select a lower quality to reduce the file size, but it is not recommended to select 「Mono, 16 bits, 11KHz(Phone Quality)」 because the audio quality is not good enough. Now, we will learn how to use 「Record Audio」. Run liteRecorder and check the 「Audio Options」 you have already set. Then, select the 「File Type」 you want to record with. We will select 「Computer Sound」 from the 「Devices」 & 「MP3 File」 from the 「File Type」 that are most frequently used ones. This will result in recording sounds from your computer and saving it as an MP3 file. If you select 「WAV File」 from the 「File Type」, the recorded file will be in PCM format, and have no loss in sound quality. However, it is recommended to use 「MP3 File」 as the 「File Type」 because the size of 「WAV File」 could be up to 10 times larger than other 「File Type」. Now, run a program to record audio. We will try recording audio from YouTube.
