Little British Monitor User Guide
Feb 2016
Thank you for purchasing a pair of Little British Monitors from AudioSmile. Description The LBM is a hand-made high performance active desktop loudspeaker with Bluetooth aptX reception. Matching desktop stands called Little Feet are provided with the LBM that isolate loudspeaker vibration from the support surface for clearer sound.

Care The LBM cabinet is made of Birch plywood. It is finished either with a vinyl wood effect cover or real wood veneer with an acrylic lacquer. Both types can be cleaned with a slightly damped micro-fibre cloth. Do not use spirit based cleaners.
Master / Slave The master speaker is the left audio channel, the slave speaker is the right audio channel. The slave speaker is linked to the master speaker by the provided 4-pin cable for stereo operation.
Controls and Connection
The power adaptor should be connected to the socket labelled ‘DC 30V’. It is a press-fit connection. Only use the supplied adaptor. The LBM power is controlled by the toggle switch labelled ‘On / Off’. The LED is a power indicator. The slave speaker should be linked to the master speaker by the socket labelled ‘Save Speaker’ using the supplied cable. This is a press-fit connection with a screw locking ring. The master speaker can be operated without the slave speaker connected. The boundary adjust switch provides a -2.5dB bass reduction to compensate for the speaker being placed next to a large reflective surface. Simply choose the setting you prefer. The input switch is positioned down to select the internal Bluetooth receiver and up to select the aux input. The aux input is a 3.5mm stereo jack socket for connection to external devices. Tip: connecting the LBM to mains grounded equipment can reduce susceptibility to hum.
Grilles The LBM grilles are made of reticulated open cell foam which has greater acoustic transparency than fabrics. The choice to use grilles should be a purely aesthetic one. The foam is attached to a thick card frame to maintain shape. The frame is affixed to the loudspeaker front by a small piece of blu-tack at each corner.
To remove the grille, place a thin blade such as a ruler between the edge of the loudspeaker and the grille, then lever it out. Ensure that you lever the card frame of the grille not the foam which is delicate.
Any remnants of blu-tack on the loudspeaker can be removed by dabbing a larger piece of blu-tack against it until all pieces have been collected.
Power Adaptor The LBM power adaptor is a ‘universal’ device that can operate with an input voltage range between 100 Volts -240 Volts. Only the supplied power adaptor should be used with the LBM. Due to the specific circuit design of the LBM, the output of the power adaptor must be electrically floating. Other adaptors may not work correctly and could damage the LBM. The adaptor is supplied with a UK IEC cable. To use the LBM in other countries an IEC cable with a suitable mains plug must be sourced.
Bass Ports Each LBM has a low frequency port located on the bottom of the cabinet. This should be raised >6mm from the support surface to allow the full range of sound to be heard.
Little Feet Stands The Little Feet feature an opening in the support plate allowing the bass port of the LBM to work freely. The support plate is constructed from two layers of stainless steel constraining a layer of acrylic adhesive. This construction damps vibrations originating from the loudspeaker. The damping plate is de-couple the Little Feet frame by neoprene isolators.
Bluetooth Operation When the LBM is powered on, the Bluetooth system will enter pairing mode. It will be seen by source devices as ‘LBM’. If the input switch is set to ‘BT’ a voice will report ‘Power on, Pairing’. If a previously paired source device is within range it will connect automatically when the LBM is powered on.
Upon pairing with a source device the LBM will optimize transmission settings. This takes a period of approximately 20 seconds during which audio playback may be interrupted. Momentary interruptions may occur if the signal strength changes during playback while the LBM adjusts settings to maintain streaming. This can occur if the source device is moved or there is signal interference such as nearby WiFi networks. When the LBM has been powered on for an extended period of time without a paired Bluetooth device, the Bluetooth system will power off to conserve energy. If the input switch is set to ‘BT’ a voice will report ‘Power Off’. This is the Bluetooth system only, not the LBM which remains on and the Aux input may be used. To wake the Bluetooth section the LBM should be powered off for 10 seconds and powered on.
Pairing Procedure - Android Pull down the system menu from the top of the screen. Select the Bluetooth menu by touching the ‘Bluetooth’ writing, not the icon.
Switch on Bluetooth. Power on the LBM, input switch set to ‘BT’. Select ‘More Settings’.
The device will search for all nearby devices. Select ‘LBM’ to pair. All sound will now be routed to the LBM.
Change Paired Device – Android
The LBM should be powered off for a minimum of 10 seconds to fully discharge. The source device must have Bluetooth turned off, be set to ‘forget’ the LBM, or be out of range. Power on the LBM. When no previously paired source device is available the LBM will automatically enter pairing mode and can be discovered by new devices.
Select the ‘settings’ icon. Pairing Procedure – iOS Select ‘Settings’.

Glossary Active – This means power amplifiers are built into the loudspeaker, one per driver, for ultimate quality. Bluetooth aptX– aptX is a transmission codec developed by CSR for streaming lossless audio content over Bluetooth. Source devices must also support aptX to enable this feature and a list of such devices can be found on the CSR website. Damp – Absorption of energy, usually by conversion to heat. Crossover – The point at which the audio signal is split between one transducer and another. Blu-tack – A gum like substance produced by Bostik Corporation. Commonly used to temporarily affix paper or card items to a flat surface.
