LMU-2720TM Quick Install Guide The LMU-2720 package comes with the LMU, a single window mount antenna with two connectors that screw onto the LMU and a fused wiring harness with white, black and red wires that attaches through the 20 pin connector. (Please note that some models have an internal antenna with no screw connectors on the rear)
Connecting Power, Ignition and Ground The power input (red wire) must be connected to a constant (un-switched) +12 VDC or +24 VDC supply; preferably connected directly to the vehicle battery terminal or as close to it as possible. This connection point should be fuse protected to not more than 5 Amps. The included wiring harness has fused red and white lines rated to 3 Amps. The ignition input (white wire) must be connected to the vehicle ignition or another appropriate key operated line, ensuring that power to the ignition wire is available only when the vehicle ignition is on. The ground line (black wire) must be connected to chassis ground. Failure to connect these lines in the manner described may result in discharge of the vehicle battery. For best results, it is strongly recommended that the LMU connection be on its own circuit. Connect the power input directly to the vehicle battery if possible and protect the circuit with an inline fuse. If you must connect through the fuse box, use standard commercial wiring practices to create a permanent installation rather than using press-in fuse clips or other temporary measures. The LMU-2720 also has 2 LED lights that can be used for diagnostic purposes after installing. The green light nearest to the connector is the GPS light and will be on solid after it has successfully obtained a valid GPS fix. The orange light farthest from the connector is the cellular light and will also be on solid after it has successfully connected to the cellular network. Both lights must be showing solid to declare a successful installation
Vehicle Placement of LMU-2720 The LMU-2720 has a window mount antenna (not available on all models) that allows the LMU to be installed in the dash or under the steering column, near to the vehicle wiring, but still allow the antenna to be placed in good spot to receive GPS signals. Since GPS signals are very low power, any metal blockage of the unit can prevent it from obtaining a valid GPS fix. For this reason, it's important to install the LMU-2720 antenna in a spot in the vehicle where it will have as clear a view of the sky as possible. The best places for good GPS reception are on top of the front or rear dashes, at the bottom of the window. If a covert installation is preferred, it is best to install inside the front dash, provided that there is no metal in the dash that would prevent GPS reception. Note the label on the antenna that says which side must face up. The side facing up has a sticker that can be used to affix the antenna to the inside of the vehicle windshield, but even if it is being installed in another location that side of the antenna must face up.
