LOAD DEMAND START STOP SYSTEM P o w e r G r i d M o d e r n i z a t i o n f ro m L - 3 We s t w o o d The Load Demand Start Stop (LDSS) System is L-3 Westwood’s next-generation approach to power grid modernization and was designed to work in conjunction with 30kW and 60kW, B Model, Tactical Quiet Generator (TQG) sets. The LDSS System can be utilized with as few as two TQG’s or up to a total of six TQG’s (30kW, 60kW, or a combination of sizes) and can be adapted to work with other types of generator sets. LDSS SYSTEM BENEFITS LDSS SYSTEM FEATURES • Provides for connection of generator sets into a ring-bus, micro-grid power system configuration • Demand initiated startup • Power grid management system automatically starts and stops generator sets based upon load requirements • Reduces fuel consumption by up to 50% over traditional generator set operating methodology depending upon load profile • Reduces maintenance cost due to efficient utilization of generator sets • Dry contact initiated start (manual starting from remote location) • Dry contact control of the auxiliary fuel system (manual enabling/disabling from a remote location) • Sequence and stagger generator use in a variety of methods, including by service time, generator set size, and individual unit ID • Demand initiated shutdown • Dry contact shutdown (manual shutdown from a remote location) • Automatic frequency and voltage matching during synchronization • Communication between controllers via PLC (Power Line Communication) or by hardwired Ethernet • Optional MODBUS control and monitoring from a remote location Westwood Power Grid Modernization.indd 1 9/14/2011 2:28:50 PM LOAD DEMAND START STOP SYSTEM P o w e r G r i d M o d e r n i z a t i o n f ro m L - 3 We s t w o o d LDSS SPECIFICATIONS Width 24 Customer inter face connector: Height 12 in P56-1 Remote star t Depth 24 in P56-2 Auxiliar y fuel enable Weight 90 lbs Operating temperature -40°F to +135°F Compatibility MEP-805B & MEP-806B Storage temperature -65°F to +165°F Generator set output voltage requirement 120/208 Volts 50 or 60 Hz Optional remote monitoring and control RS-485 via MODBUS® protocol Microgrid capability Any quantity Sequencing options • Smallest unit ID from 2 up to 6 first gensets can • Staggered ser vice be placed in time the microgrid. • Balanced ser vice Microgrid time composition • Largest size first can be 30kW • Smallest size first only, 60kW • Adopt system only, or a mode commination of both sizes Communication between controllers Hardwired System Adaptation Ethernet or optional Power Line Communication Westwood 12042 E. 60th Street Tulsa, OK 74146 Tel: 918.252.0481 Fax: 918.294.0540 Email: [email protected] L-3com.com/ Westwood LDSS system can be adapted to work with other generator sets.
