Multi-Format Home Stereo System EL6172 INSTRUCTION MANUAL IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Read the instructions. All user guidelines must be read before starting device. 2. This device has an overload protection circuit. If the replacement is required, this must be carried out by an experienced technician. 11. BATTERY INSTALLATION The battery compartment is located on the back of the remote control. 1. Remove the battery compartment door by pressing in on the tab and lifting it off. 2. Insert two (2) AAA size batteries (not included) into the battery compartment following the polarity markings inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment door. Battery Precautions  Replacement of batteries must be done by an adult.  Do not mix old and new batteries.  Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.  The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.  Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.  Exhausted batteries are to be removed.  Only batteries of the equivalent type are to be used.  Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity.  Dispose of batteries properly. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. The batteries may explode or leak. Important: Since movement of the CD mechanism and the sensitive circuitry may cause interference to other radio tuner nearby, switch this unit off while operating other radio devices. E-1 Precautions for use Installation • • • Unpack all parts and remove protective material. Do not connect the unit to the mains before checking the mains voltage and before all other connections have been made. Do not cover any vents and make sure that there is a space of several centimeters around the unit for ventilation. Connection 1. 2. 3. Connect the speaker wire from included speaker box to the speaker terminal (29) of the main unit. Connect the power cord (32) to AC outlet, the unit will go into standby mode and Standby LED (3) lights up. Turn on the unit by On/Standby button (4). If the LCD display (1) is on with backlighting, it means the power supply is normal. Now your system is ready to play the music. Setting the clock 1. 2. 3. 4.  Set unit in standby mode using the On/Standby button (4). or button (20/21) to Press the “Mem/clk-adj” button (7), the first second digit of “00” is flashing. press set the correct hour. press ”Mem/clk-adj” button (7) to store the correct hour. or button (20/21) to set the correct minutes. press The third & fourth digit of “00” is flashing, press the “Mem/clk-adj” (7) to store the correct minute. To select 12/24 hours display mode, hold the CD stop button (17) to change mode repeatedly. The time will be re-set completely if this Home Stereo is switched off at the mains. You are recommended to switch the system into standby mode when not in use to retain settings. Listening to radio Manual tuning 1. 2. 3. 4. Switch the unit on using the On/Standby button (4). Press Tuner button ( 23) to select tuner mode. Tune to the required station by pressing the Tuning up/down button (20/21). Adjust volume controls to the desired volume level. Auto tuning 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Press Tuner button (23) to select tuner band. Press and hold the Tuning up/down button (20/21) for 1-2 seconds and then release The unit will start seeking automatically and stop until a radio station is reached. Repeat step 2 & 3 until the desired radio station is being reached. Adjust volume controls to the desired volume level. Preset stations You can store up to total of 20 radio stations in the memory. 1. Set to tuner mode 2. Turn to the desired radio station by “ Manual” or “Auto” tuning method. 3. Press “Mem/clk-adj” button (7) to enable program state. 4. Press “Repeat/M-up” button (13) to select the desired station memory for storage. 5. Press “Mem/clk-adj” button (7) again to confirm the setting. 6. Repeat step 2 to 5 to store other stations. 7. Press “M-up” or “M-dn” button (13/14) to select the preset stations in order. 8. To return normal tuner mode, do not touch any keys for 10 seconds.    Pre-set stations are deleted if the unit is switched off or unplugged from the mains power supply. You are recommended to switch the system into standby mode when not in use to retain settings. When programming pre set stations you have 10 seconds to complete the action, if no keys are pressed for 10 seconds the operation is cancelled. You can overwrite previously set presets by storing another frequency in its place. Radio Data System (RDS) (On remote control) This feature displays information transmitted by the radio broadcaster:RDS mode : Press to activate the RDS function, program and station information (PS) is displayed. Rds search : Press to select a program type that you want to listen to. Press the Tuning up/down button (20/21) to start RDS searching and the unit can automatically detect a suitable station, which is currently broadcasting with program type identification (PTY) signal – Program classifications listed below. Remark : “ PS “ or “ PTY “ only appears if information is transmitted by the broadcaster. E-2 Programs are classified as follows: NEWS, AFFAIRS (current affairs), INFO (information), SPORT, EDUCATE (education), DRAMA, CULTURE, SCIENCE, VARIED, POP M (pop music), ROCK M (rock music), MOR M (middle of the road music), LIGHT M (light classical), CLASSICS (serious classical), OTHER M (other music). Notes Program and station information (PS) This is a name consisting of less than 8 alphanumeric characters, which is displayed in order to inform listeners about the program service being broadcast by the radio station. Program type identification (PTY) PTY allows selection by one of 15 program types rather than by a station. Radio text (text) Information such as the cast list of a play or the title of a song is shown on the display. Clock-Timer (CT) CT function provides an accurate clock signal. If the clock of the system is not adjusted after plug in, when an RDS clock is received, the system will automatically update the system clock to the received RDS clock time. The system clock is now adjusted. FM & FM-stereo reception   Set the FM mode selector to “MONO” position to receive programs in mono mode. When stereo signals are weak, it is preferable to receive the program in mono. Set the FM mode selector to “ST” position to receive stereo programs. The “ST” indicator will appear on the LCD to show an FM stereo program is being received. Hints for best reception:- FM : The receiver has a build-in FM wire antenna hanging at the rear cabinet. This wire should be totally unraveled and extended fro best reception. Phono Noted: - Remove the stylus protector. Be sure that the tone arm lock is disengaged from the tone arm before operating, and re-secured again afterwards. 1. 2. 3. 4. Press Phono button ( 23) Set the speed selector (27) to the proper position depending on the record to be played. Place the record on the turntable (use the spindle adaptor (26) if required). Lift the tone arm from the rest and slowly move it to the record side. The turntable will being to rotate. Place the tone arm to the desired position of the record. Adjust the volume to the desired level. At the end of record, the turntable will automatically stop rotating. Lift the tone arm from the record and return it to the rest. To stop manually, lift the tone arm from the record and return it to the rest. 5. 6. 7. 8. Remark : This system has an auto-stop mechanism, which stops the turntable revolving when it gets to the end. On some records, where they are longer than normal, it may stop before the end of the last track. In this happens, the Auto-stop switch (31) can be set to the “ Off “ position, then it will run to the end of the record but will not stop automatically. Turn off the unit using the power button or switch back the auto-stop switch back to the “ on “ position to stop the turntable rotating. Then replace the tone arm to the rest position. Playing compact disc  1. 2. 3. Getting start Press CD button (23). Press CD tray open/close button (25) to open the CD tray. Place a CD with the printed side facing up inside the tray. 4. 5. 6. Press the “ “ button (9) to rotate the CD tray and load another disc. Press the CD tray open/close button (25) to close the CD door. CD search is performing, the display will show the total number of disc, number of tracks & playing time of discs. Noted : CD searching will perform every time when switching to CD mode or closing the CD door. All CD functions will respond only after the CD searching is completed (around 5 seconds). E-3  1. 2. 3. Play / pause mode Press the “Play/Pause” button (18) to start playback, the first track of the first disc will be played and the play indicator will appear on the LCD display (1). Or press either the “ disc 1 ” , “ disc 2 ” , “ disc 3 ” button, the unit will play the disc inside the desire tray directly. To interrupt, press the “Play/Pause” button (18) once, and the display will start flashing. Press again to release & resume playback.  1. Stop mode If Stop button (17) is pressed during play or pause mode, system will go to stop mode.  1. 3. Skip mode (skip up /skip down ) During play or pause mode, if Skip up button (20) is pressed it will go to next track and display the track no. and then remain in play or pause mode. During play or pause mode, if Skip Down button (21) is pressed. It will go back to the beginning of the track, original track no. is display and remain in play or pause mode. After step 2, pressing skip down button (21) again will go to the previous track and remain in play or pause mode.  1. 2. /search down ) Search mode (search up During play mode, if search up button (20) is pressed & held for a few seconds it will start searching forward. During play mode, if search down button (21) is pressed & held for few seconds It will start searching backwards. 2.  Repeat play This function allow you to repeat 1 single track, 1 single disc or all discs:Press the Repeat button (12) repeatedly to switch the function:REPEAT All DISC REPEAT 1 DISC REPEAT ONE Note : Single track repeat function is possible in normal or programmed playback, repeat one disc or all discs is only available in normal playback.  Random play You can listen all the tracks of all available discs in a random order by this function 1. Press Random button (10) once, unit will play all discs randomly ; press again, unit will play 1 disc randomly. 2. Press “play/pause” button to start random playback. 3. All tracks of all discs or all tracks of 1 disc will be started playback in random order. 4. Press “random” button again to cancel random mode. CD programming Up to 60 tracks can be programmed to be played in any required order from one cd or all cds in the cd changer. 1. 2. Set in CD mode. Press the Mem/clk-adj. button (7) 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. ” button (9) to select the desired disc. Press the “ Press skip or button (20/21) to select the desired track. Press the Mem/clk/adj. button (7) again to store the track in memory. Repeat steps 2 to 4 to enter additional tracks Press Play/Pause button (18) to start playback in order. Press Stop button (17) to stop playback and press again to clear all programmed tracks. Listing to tape General operation Stop / Eject key Press to stop all deck operation. Press again to open the cassette door. Fast forward key & Fast rewind key Press to start rapid tape winding in either forward or reverse direction. Press stop / eject to stop. Play key Press to start playing tape. Pause key Press to stop tape operation temporarily. Press again to resume play. Record key (deck 1 only) Press together with play key to start tape recording. E-4 Playback       Press Tape button (23) to activate tape function Press eject to open drawer, put in the cassette tape and close drawer. Press play key to activate playback Adjust the volume control to the desired level. Use pause key when you want to stop playback temporarily. (Do not pause for long periods) Press stop / eject key when finished. Recording A. Recording from tape (deck 2 to deck 1) This unit enables you to duplicate a pre-recorded tape to another tape. It is performed only one way from deck 2 (playback) to deck 1 (recording). Dubbing at normal speed      Press the Tape function button (23). Inset a pre-recorded cassette into deck 2 and a blank cassette tape into deck 1. Press the Pause key and then press the Record and Play key on deck 1. Press the Play key to start playback on deck 2 & then press Pause key on deck 1 to start dubbing. Press Pause key on deck 1 & Stop key on deck 2 when finish. Dubbing at high speed This unit is quipped with a high speed dubbing system which can save the time for dubbing by 2/3rds when compare to normal speed.    Press the Dubbing speed button (6), out is for “Nor” normal speed dubbing and in is for “ Hi “ High speed dubbing. Then follow the same procedures as stipulated in “Dubbing at normal speed”. When dubbing a pre-recorded cassette tape at high speed, a chattering sound can be heard. To avoid this, set the volume control to a minimum level. Do not press the dubbing speed button (6) during dubbing, this will vary the speed of recording and may damage the cassette tape. B. Recording from radio  Press Tuner button (23) to activate radio mode  Tune to the desired station and insert a blank cassette tape in deck 1.  Press Record & Play key to start recording.  Press Pause keys and then “Stop/Eject” key when finish. C.      D.      Recording from CD Press the CD button (23). Insert a blank cassette tape in deck 1 which suitable for recording. Press Pause key first and then Record & Play key on the cassette. Recording function is now on standby. Press play on the CD player, and then the press Pause key on the cassette to start recording. To stop recording, press Stop button (17) on CD player first, then press the Pause key and then Stop/Eject key on cassette tape deck. Recording from turntable press Phono button (23) to activate turntable mode Insert a blank cassette tape in deck 1. press Record & Play key to start recording. Start playback of the record Press Pause keys and then Stop/Eject key on the tape deck when finished. More features A. Sleep setting 1. Press & hold the Sleep/Timer button (8), to activate & adjust the sleep timer in the order of 90 > 80 >70….10 minutes automatically. 2. System will play and then go to standby mode automatically after the selected time. 3. To cancel the sleep mode, press and hold Sleep/Timer button until “SLEEP” indicator disappears. B. Timer setting (On remote control only) This function allows the system to turn on automatically and wake you up with CD music, Phono, Tape or radio. 1) Set the unit in standby mode 2) Press the Mode button on remote handset, the LCD display will show the information in the following order:a) Current time – As this suggests, the current set time E-5 b) c) d) On time setting - Press Mem/clock adj. key and then skip up/down to set the hour, press Mem/clock adj to confirm hour. Then press skip up/down to set the minute, press Mem/clock adj to confirm the alarm on time. Off time setting - Press Mode button again to enter timer off setting mode. Press Mem/clock adj. key and then skip up/down to set the hour, press Mem/clock adj to confirm hour. Then press skip up/down to set the minute, press Mem/clock adj to confirm the alarm off time. Mode - Press Mode button again to enter wake up mode. Press Mem/clock adj. key & then skip up/down to select wake up mode then press Mem/clock adj to confirm. Press the Mode button repeatedly to review the preset times in order.   The programming will automatically cancel if no button is being pressed in a period of about 10 seconds. Activate/de-activate timer function 1. Press the Sleep/Timer button (8) once & the timer indicator is shown on LCD (1). 2. To cancel alarm function by press again Sleep/Timer button until the timer indicator “ ” disappears. C. Presets EQ function This unit provides 5 differences sound mode to enhance your listening experience. you can select the desired effect by pressing the EQ button (16) repeatedly at following sequence:- FLAT JAZZ ROCK CLASSIC POP D. Mute function Press to terminate the sound output from system temporarily and press again to cancel this mode. Remark : Due to ErP stage two requirement and protect the environment. The unit will switch to standby mode automatically if no music played for over 15 minutes.
