SELECTION GUIDE
Description High-speed sampling at 1200 scans/sec A newly developed 12-surface polygon mirror and a high-precision motor enables a high-speed sampling rate of 1200 scans/sec - a rate 3 times faster than our previous models. The LS-5000 Series has the extra performance needed to continuously measure extruded and moving objects - down to the sub-micron.
Large touch screen for easy operation The system is operated via a touch screen, in which menu items are selected simply by touching the screen. Even those unfamiliar with computers can operate the system easily.
Enclosure rating conforms to IP-64 (NEMA 4) requirements (IP-65 with LS-5121)
Wide-range - 0.8 to 120 mm (0.03" to 4.72") dia.
Connects up to four scanning heads Up to four scanning heads can be connected to a single controller for centralized control. This provides a low-cost system for measuring multiple lines simultaneously.
Wide measuring range Objects from 0.2 mm to 120 mm 0.02" to 4.72" in diameter can be measured. The LS-5121 increases transmitter/receiver distance to maximum of 1000 mm 39.37".
A full range of products that solve the toughest applications Built-in display for easy installation and setup (LS-5501) This compact controller can be installed almost anywhere its built-in display allows the system to be setup and installed easily for immediate use. Low-cost system for control via personal computer (LS-5001) This low-cost model without a display can be controlled and monitored externally using a computer. Special software is provided.

Functions Easy addition and replacement of scanning heads with interface board system A board system is used for connecting the scanning heads. The boards are equipped with correction ROM to ensure compatibility. This feature eliminates the conventional problem of matching pairs when adding or replacing a scanning head.
Pitch measurement mode for displaying maximum and minimum values The LS-5000 Series has a pitch measurement mode. In this mode, the system measures the center pitch or alignment of connector pins and similar objects up to a maximum of 100 points. The maximum and minimum values measured can then be displayed, together with the results of the tolerance check.
Multiple simultaneous calculation modes A wide range of calculation modes and functions are provided to fully utilize the 4-head/4-channel output. Addition, subtraction, and division of measured data are all possible. These can be used for various tasks - from measuring the outer diameter of thick objects to measuring the thickness of films.

Analog I/O interface boards can be added. The board system allows I/O boards to be freely combined as required. Upgrading a single controller system can be done easily.

Outline of Measurements Area/Segment/Edge
EDGE 0
When a target is placed in the measuring area, there are areas where the laser beam is received (laser beam enters the receiver), and where the laser beam is interrupted by the target (shadow of the target is projected on the receiver). The border between the light and dark areas is called “EDGE”. Each section divided by the edge is called a “SEGMENT”. The “AREA” is determined by two edges and includes all “SEGMENTS” between these two edges.
The position of the photodiode for synchronization is called “EDGE 0”. EDGE 0 can be used as a reference point during roller oscillation measurement or sheet edge control. (No reference edge is required.) Example: Roller oscillation measurement Photodiode for synchronization

The LS-5000 Series has two measuring modes; NORMAL and PITCH. NORMAL mode provides four modes: “DIA”, “T.EDGE (Top Edge)”, “B.EDGE (Bottom Edge)” and “SEG(m,n)”. The function of each mode is described on the next page. Select the mode that suits your measurement condition.

The width between the lower edge of the first light segment and the top edge of the last light segment is measured. When two edges are specified, the width between these edges is measured. * (m,n) indicates any number between 0 and 254. “m” should be smaller than “n”.

DIA mode Since DIA mode is basically intended for outer diameter measurement of a rod, transparent tube or other round surface, the measurement error due to the round surface is calibrated. * To perform outer diameter measurement of a round target, select DIA mode.
