LT QUICKSTART GUIDE Place the eyepiece into diagonal prism.
It is best to set up the telescope in twilight or before sunset the first time you use the LT. Take the telescope and tripod outside. Set the telescope in a large open area where you can see lots of sky. Make sure the ground is stable and is approximately level. It is best to set up the scope away from bright nighttime lighting. Bright lights will spoil your night vision and impede your ability to see the sky.

Attach diagonal prism.

Adjust leg height (make sure that the top of the tripod is approximately level).

Thread eyepiece holder into rear cell.

Remove knob and washer from threaded spreader bar tension rod.
Remove rear cell cap.

Attach spreader bar and secure with washer and knob.

Center telescope base onto tripod head and fasten three screw knobs to a firm feel.

Open battery compartment.
Press “0”, and follow the on screen instructions.

Remove the eyepiece and replace with compass.
Insert batteries according to diagram on battery tray. STEP

Remove the dust cover.

12 Connect AutoStar #497 and turn on LT.
Control the telescope using the keypad and point at a distant object.
Move to center the distant object in the eyepiece. Rotate knob to focus image

14 AutoStar Alignment
AutoStar will ask you to input the following information: • • • •
Location Daylight savings or standard time Telescope Model LX90-8 Date and Time
Position the telescope in the North “Home” position by leveling the tube using the up/down arrow keys (Ref. 20a). Point the telescope tube to North by using the left and right arrow keys. Refer to the

Scroll “up” and “down”
compass/bubble level to verify that the tube is level and pointing in the North direction (Ref 20b.). When you are confident that you have achieved the “Home” position, remove and replace the compass/ bubble level with the included 26mm eyepiece (Ref. 20c). Press “ENTER” to complete.

Bubble is centered The telescope will slew to the first of two alignment stars and will emit an audible “beep” when it has finished slewing. Look though the red dot finder, a bright star will be in the field of view. Use the arrow keys to put the red dot on the star. Looking through the eyepiece, center that star, using the arrow keys. Press “ENTER” when completed. If an object obstructs the view of the sky, press the up or down scroll keys (Ref. 14) and AutoStar will slew to another alignment star.

Repeat for the second alignment star. AutoStar will display “Alignment Successful” when you have successfully centered two alignment stars. The display then reads “Press 0 for tour or mode for menu”. Press “0” and AutoStar will take you on a guided tour of the night sky. Important Note: If you have updated or replaced your Autostar #497 hand box, please make sure the telescope type “LX90-8” has been selected and the setting of Az/RA Ratio is +02.75075 and Alt/DEC Ratio is -02.75075. These are essential setup settings to get your LT-6/ LT-8 telescope right working.
