The manual introduces the features of the new node, and provides full details of the new options within the engineer's menu. Note that this manual applies to software release 3.xx.xx onwards. Other Publications For information about connecting individual control units, please refer to the relevant installation instructions. Separate installation instructions are provided for peripheral devices. For Information on other programming commands, please refer to the M-Series Engineering Manual. For information about the user options, please refer to the M-Series Manager's Manual. For information about setting, unsetting and resetting the alarm system, please refer to the User's Guide; this document is intended for end users. iv M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Introduction Software release 3.xx.xx provides a set of new programming options that allows the M-Series control units to control the MRNode wireless network node. By fitting one or more MRNodes to a M-Series control unit the installer can employ a variety of wirefree detectors to protect areas without running extra cabling. In addition, the user gains the ability to set and unset the system using radio telecommands, or start panic alarms using PA transmitters. The new software release also provides facilities for monitoring the health of radio transmitters, and reporting their status to an ARC About the MRNode The MRNode is a radio receiver that ‘listens’ for signals from wire-free detectors and other transmitters, and reports their activity to the control unit. The MRNode connects to the control unit over the standard network cabling (see Figure 1). The control unit treats the wire free detectors as standard zones. The MRNode must learn the identity of each radio detector/transmitter, in order to ensure that it does not respond to similar devices in other installations. Each MRNode can handle a maximum of eight wire free detectors, and eight telecommands and/or PAs. A wire-free detector could be a PIR movement detector, door contact, vibration sensor, or any of the range of the supported Cooper Security transmitters. A telecommand/PA is a small portable transmitter. The user can employ a telecommand to set and unset the system from outside the premises. If necessary, a user can employ a PA to raise a panic alarm. 1 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual Installing a MRNode is relatively easy: the unit connects to one of the control unit networks, and there are no cables to run to any of the detectors. Because of the nature of radio signals at the frequency at which the MRNode operates, you will have to make sure that the MRNode is in a good position to receive the signals sent by the wirefree detectors and the other transmitters. Cooper Security Ltd provide a test receiver to help check reception conditions on site. The MRNode itself can also display the signal strength of the detectors it has learned. Note: Do not connect keypads to the same network wiring as an MRNode (or any other node). However, you can connect keypads to MSNodes or MSPSUs, but NOT MRNodes. Telecommands Telecommand Buttons The 722r, 723r, 727r and 728r telecommands have four buttons that you may program for separate functions (see Figure 1 on page 14). In addition, on a 722r and 727r, pressing buttons 1 and 4 at the same time generates a PA signal. Telecommand/PA Numbering User menu 2-4-4 provides the facility to program telecommands and PAs. The same options are present in the Engineer’s menu 2-9. When displaying user menu 2-4-4, the keypad display shows the identity of the telecommand/PA as a unique number, accompanied by some user programmable text. The number has the format Network:Node:Device. For example, the first telecommand learned by MRNode 2 on Network 1 has the number: 1:02:1. Setting and Unsetting with a Telecommand The user can program the control unit to set or unset wards in response to button presses on a telecommand. 2 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode However, depending on the installation, the installer may wish to impose restrictions on how the user can unset wards using a telecommand. See Installer Programming Commands in this manual for a detailed description of the new options available for this purpose. PA Transmitters PA transmitters have one or two buttons, and are dedicated to sending PA (personal attack or panic alarm) signals to the receiver. The user cannot use PA transmitters to set or unset the system. Radio Detectors Radio Zone Numbering Radio zone numbers follow the same format as all other zone numbers. For example, if an MRNode is installed on Network 2, with its address jumpers set to Address 1, then the first radio zone on that MRNode will appear as “2011” in installer programming. Supervision The control unit can be set to monitor radio detectors to see if they remain present and active. This facility is called “supervision” and works as follows: Approximately every four minutes each radio transmitter sends a short supervision transmission to announce its presence. When enabled, the control unit re-starts a timer every time MRNode detects a supervision transmission. If the timer expires, that means the MRNode has not received the regular transmission, and there may be a problem with the transmitter. The control unit provides two separate timers: “Supervision Warning” and “Supervision Fail”. It is normal practice to set the Warning timer to a shorter time than the Fail timer. 3 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual If the Warning timer expires for a radio zone then the control unit logs the event, and gives an alert at the keypad when a user tries to set the system. The control unit can be programmed to prevent a user from setting the system by a telecommand if there is a Supervision Warning; the user must operate the keypad to acknowledge the alert. If the Fail timer expires for a radio zone, the control unit displays an alert on the keypad, logs the event, activates any outputs programmed to respond to the failure, and starts any communications programmed to announce a supervision failure to the ARC. A user cannot set the system while there is a supervision Fail alert. Note that the control unit does not use supervision on telecommands or PA transmitters, since users may regularly take these out of range of the MRNode. When programming the control unit for supervision, you can enable/disable supervision for the whole system, for individual MRNodes, or for individual detectors. Jamming The MRNode can detect that signals from other transmitters that are interfering with proper operation of the telecommands, PAs and detectors that it has learned. The MRNode reports this information to the control unit, and the control unit starts an alert at the keypad. The engineer can program who is allowed to reset the alert. Signal Strength The MRNode constantly monitors the signal strength from transmitters it has learned and reports this data to the control unit. The engineer can read the signal strengths while testing the zones from the keypad. 4 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Transmitter Battery Health Each transmitter reports the state of its battery with every transmission. The MRNode relays this information to the control unit, which displays an alert at the keypad. Note that this type of alert does not prevent a user from setting the system. Learning Telecommands and Detectors See MRNode Installation Instructions. When you first connect an MRNode to a control unit, the keypad display may report it as an MSNode for a few seconds if you immediately use the “Confirm Devices” command. The display will change to RNode once the control unit as adjusted itself to the new device. While the MRNode is in learn mode it does not communicate with the control unit over the network bus. The control unit may take a short time to recognise the MRNode again when you take the MRNode out of learn mode. 5 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual Installation Overview Detectors Step Notes: 1. Carry out a radio site survey. Check that the MRNode will receive signals from all detectors. Use the 790r signal strength meter, and 734r test transmitter. Place the 734r at the proposed site of the receiver. Use the 790r at the proposed site of each detector. Do not select sites for transmitters that are vertically above or below the site of the receiver (the receiver is “blind” on its vertical axis). Check the MRNode manual for other restrictions. 2. Make the MRNode learn You can do this before going to site. Power the MRNode the identities of all the from a 12VDC supply. detectors and any other transmitters. 3. At the site, fit detectors and MRNode in place. Mount all the units vertically, with their aerials uppermost (any other orientation will decrease the signal strength). 4. Power up the MRNode and check the signal strength from each detector. If necessary move and re-fit the MRNode and detectors. You will need to trigger each detector to generate a signal. The MRNode records the most recent signal strength. 5. Power down the MRNode and control unit. Don’t forget to set the address jumper before power up. 6 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Step Connect the MRNode to the appropriate network. Fit the MRNode lid (to ensure the tamper switch is closed). Power up the control unit. Notes: 6. Program the control unit (allocate the detector zones to wards, give the zones names). Use option 2-7-3-3 Confirm Devices to check that the control unit recognises the MRNode. Use option 1-1 to set up zone types, wards and names. 7. Walk test the radio detectors from the control unit. Use option 2-1 to check individual zone status, signal strength and battery health. Employ User Menu 1-1-2 for a general zone walk test. Telecommands and PAs Step Notes: 1. Talk to the end user and find our how they wish to use a telecommand or PA. (For audible or silent PA see Option 1-9-1-29.) You need to find out if they wish to unset the system from outside the premises without opening the entry door, or not. You should also find out which wards each telecommand should be assigned to. 2. Make the MRNode learn the identity of the telecommands and PAs. If the MRNode is connected to a powered up control unit then put the system in Installer Menu first. This will prevent a tamper alarm when 7 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual you take the MRNode lid off. Each MRNode can learn a mixture of PAs or telecommands, but only a maximum of eight devices. These are separate from the radio zones used for detectors. You may need a second 3. Check that the MRNode can receive adequate signal person to help with this. strength from the telecommand and/or PA over the entire area of the transmitter’s intended use. When finished, fit the lid to the MRNode to ensure that the tamper switch is closed. 4. At the control unit, program the buttons of the telecommand to set or unset the desired wards, and give each telecommand a name. Use Option 2-9 to allocate buttons to wards and give the transmitter a memorable name (for example the user’s name). Use Option 1-3-2-15 to select whether a user must first start an entry timer (open an entry door) before using their telecommand to unset the system. Use Option 1-9-1-29 to select either audible or silent PA. 5. Carry out final checks. 8 Use Option 2-7-7 to show the name, signal strength and battery health of any telecommand/PA. M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Installer Programming Commands This section describes the new programming commands available in version 3.xx.xx. Note that some of the commands described are not relevant to the operation of the MRNode, but are included here for completeness. To use these commands correctly make sure that none of the MRNodes are in learn mode (the control unit cannot recognise an MRNode in learn mode.) Starting the Panel for the First Time Use the following procedure when starting a new system: 1. Follow the power-up procedure documented in the 95 Installation Instructions. Make sure you apply a factory restart to ensure that the system begins with its factory default settings. The screen shows a start-up message similar to the one at the right (text may vary depending on keypad): Menvier Security Version 4.1 2. If the panel's lid is off, the sounder may start soon after power is switched on. This indicates a tamper alarm. 3. You may see following message: ! Alerts ! 00:00 19 Mon 01 JAN 4. Enter your engineer code (default 1234). Country UK PD6662 Grade 2 The screen shows: At this point you can select one of two sets of defaults: either PD6662 Grade 2, or PD6662 Grade 3. The next two digits specify the device address of the MRNode on the network bus. The final digit specifies the telecommand. Note: If you have the telecommand, press any button on it while option 2-9 is on the display and the system will show the telecommand number. When you first connect an MRNode, or if you have just taken an MRNode out of learn mode, the control unit may not recognise it immediately. The control unit may initially display an MRNode as follows (for example): MSNode 2:04:1 MSNode Not Learned MRNode (in learn mode) 1:01:1 Not Used Not Learned The display will change to RNode once the control unit has adjusted itself to the new device. Once the control unit recognises the MRNode then the control unit will display its bus address as (for example): Device type (MRNode) Network 1, device 1, zone 1 1:01:1 RNode Not Learned No radio devices learned by this node. Step 2 – Select Telecommand Type Press ¬ or |, or key in a number 0 to 2, to select one of the following: 13 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual 0 – Unused The control unit will ignore any telecommand programmed as Unused, even though it may still be learned by an MRNode. 1 – Global Allows a telecommand to set or unset any ward allocated to its buttons from any MRNode (see “Buttons” below). Note that this option may be overridden by the value of Option 1-9-1-11 Global/Local Setting and Option 1-9-1-12 Global/Local Unsetting 2 – Local Allows a telecommand to set/unset wards only if the ward has been allocated to the MRNode which receives the transmission. (See Option 1-3-1 Assign Equipment to Wards.) The control unit will not set/unset any other wards, even though they may be allocated to buttons on the telecommand in the “Buttons” options (see below). Step 3 – Program Buttons The control unit identifies each button on a telecommand by a number. The keypad display indicates these buttons by showing the numbers followed one of the symbols “^, <, > or v” to indicate the position of the button on the telecommand, as shown in Figure 1: Button Displayed as 1 1^ 2 2< 3 3> 4 4v Figure 1. Telecommand Button Numbering 14 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Press ENT repeatedly to step through each of the buttons in turn, followed by the “1+4” button combination. Buttons 1 to 3: set Groups. Press any key 1 to 4 to specify which Group(s) that button should set. Button 4 always unsets wards. Press any key 1 to 8 to specify which ward(s) button 4 will unset. (Note: The system allocates to button 4 any wards you select for buttons 1 to 3. You may override this selection if you choose.) On a 722r and 727r button combination 1 + 4 always generates a PA. Press any key 1 to 8 to specify which wards the PA alarm will be associated with. There are several models of PA transmitter. Some have two buttons and some have one button. To start a PA on two button transmitters press both buttons at the same time for more than one second. When you are programming PA transmitters you cannot program the buttons to set or unset wards. Use the “Button PA” screen in option 2-9 to allocate PA transmitters to wards, and the “Telecommand Name” screen (below) to give the PA a meaningful name. Step 4 – Program Telecommand Name The top line shows the current telecommand name. Press ENT if you wish to change the name. Press numeric keys repeatedly to enter the text of the name (see Appendix A: Text Keys in the M-Series Engineering Manual). The bottom line of the display shows a “^” cursor symbol to indicate where the next character will go. After every character entry move the cursor by pressing the Up or Down arrow keys. Press ENT to save the telecommand name.- 15 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual Wards Option 1-3-1: Equipment to Wards There is a new equipment type: RNode, which represents an MRNode. Key in the Network:Equipment number and press ENT. Press any key 1 to 8 to assign the MRNode to one or more ward(s). Option 1-3-2: Ward Attributes There is a new option: 15 – Entry Unset Use this option to specify which wards must first have their entry timer running, or be in alarm, before being unset, or which wards can be unset directly from a telecommand. If a ward appears in this list then a user must start the entry timer for the ward (for example by opening a Final Exit door). By default all wards appear in the list. If a ward does not appear in the list then a user can unset the ward directly from the telecommand. (See also Option 1-9-1-28.) Outputs: Option 1-4 New System Event Types 063 – Mask Alarm The control unit operates this output when a suitably equipped detector reports masking. 064 – 4k4 Fault Output The control unit operates this output when a suitably equipped detector reports a self test failure by triggering a resistance value of 4k4 ohms. 16 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode 149 – Supervision Fail This output operates when there is a supervision failure on any radio zone. The output remains on until the alert is reset. See also option 1-9-3-17. 150 – RF Jammed The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports jamming. The output remains on until all jammed MRNodes report no jamming. See also option 1-9-3-18. 151 – Tx Low Battery The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports a wirefree detector with low battery. (There is a separate output type for Telecommands and PAs.) The output remains on until all MRNodes stop reporting detectors with low batteries. 152 – Telecommand Low Battery The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports a telecommand or PA with low battery. The output remains on until all MRNodes stop reporting telecommands or PAs with low batteries. 153 – Set Pulse The control unit switches this output on for 10 seconds when a user sets any ward. 154 – Unset Pulse The control unit switches this output on for 10 seconds when a user unsets any ward. 17 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual New Ward Event Types 40 – Mask Alarm The control unit operates this output when a suitably equipped detector reports masking in its associated ward. 41 – Auto Set Activates when the selected Secure ward is unset; deactivates when the Secure ward is set. 42 – Supervision Fail This output operates when there is a supervision failure on any radio zone allocated to the ward programmed for this output. The output remains on until all supervision failures for the ward are reset (see also option 1-9-3-17). Note that to give a reliable indication of the location of the fault, you must assign each MRNode to the appropriate ward (option 1-3-1), and each radio zone to the appropriate ward (option 1-1). 43 – RF Jammed The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports jamming. The output remains on until all jammed MRNodes report no jamming. 44 – Transmitter Low Battery The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports a wirefree detector with low battery. (There is a separate output type for Telecommands and PAs.) The output remains on until all MRNodes stop reporting detectors with low batteries. 45 – Telecommand Battery Low The control unit operates this output when any MRNode reports a telecommand or PA with low 18 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode battery. The output remains on until all MRNodes stop reporting telecommands or PAs with low batteries. 46 – Set Pulse The control unit switches this output on for 10 seconds when a user sets any ward. 47 – Unset Pulse The control unit switches this output on for 10 seconds when a user unsets any ward. 48 – 4k4 Fault The control unit operates this output when a suitably equipped detector allocated to the ward reports a self test failure by triggering a resistance value of 4k4 ohms. System Options: Option 1-5-2: System Timers There are two new system timer types: 28 – Supervision Warning When set to 000 this timer disables all supervision warnings. When set to a positive number between 001 and 999 this timer specifies the period in minutes that the control unit waits after receiving a supervision signal from a detector. The control unit re-starts the timer every time it receives a supervision signal from a transmitter. If the timer expires before the next supervision signal is received then the control unit starts a supervision warning. The default setting for this timer is 16 minutes. 29 – Supervision Fail When set to 000 this timer disables all supervision failures. When set to a positive number between 001 and 999 the timer specifies in minutes the period that the control unit 19 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual waits after receiving a supervision signal from a detector. The control unit re-starts the timer every time it receives a supervision signal from a transmitter. If the timer expires before the next supervision signal is received then the control unit starts a supervision failure. The default value is 120 minutes (suitable for EN50131 systems). On an EN50131 compliant system the detectors should transmit every four minutes. Option 1-9-1: General Configuration The following options have changed or are new in this version of software. 11 – Global Setting / Local Setting Global Setting (default) – Allows users to set a ward from any keypad, providing their user type allows this and the ward has been allocated to the user (as specified in User options 2-4-1; see the Manager's Manual). Also allows any telecommand to set a ward, providing the ward has been allocated to the telecommand (see option 2-9). Local Setting – Allows a user to set a ward only if the ward has been allocated to the user and the keypad belongs to that ward (see option 1-3-1). Also allows a telecommand to set a ward only if the ward has been allocated to the telecommand’s buttons, and the MRNode has been allocated to the ward (see Option 1-3-1 to allocate a ward to an MRNode). 12 – Global Unsetting / Local Unsetting Global Unsetting (default) – Allows users to unset a ward from any keypad, providing the ward has been allocated to the user (as specified in User option 2-41; see the Manager's Manual). Also allows any telecommand to unset a ward, providing the ward has 20 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode been allocated to the telecommand button (see option 2-9). Local Unsetting – Allows a user to unset a ward only if the ward has been allocated to the user and the keypad belongs to that ward (see option 1-3-1). Also allows a telecommand to unset a ward only if the ward has been allocated to the telecommand’s buttons, and the MRNode has been allocated to the ward (see Option 1-3-1 to allocate a ward to an MRNode.) . 28 – Unset Entry Wards/Unset All Wards This option applies to telecommand unset buttons (button 4) that are allocated to more than one ward. Note that this option works in conjunction with option 1-3-2-15 Entry Unset. A ward must be listed in Option 1-3-2-15 before Option 1-9-1-28 has any effect. Unset Entry Wards – A telecommand will unset the ward that has an entry timer running (or is in alarm), but leave unchanged any other ward that is set (and allocated to the telecommand unset button). All Wards – A telecommand will unset all wards allocated to the unset button when any one of the wards has an entry timer running (or is in alarm) (default). 29 – Radio PA Audible/Silent Silent – The control unit triggers a silent PA alarm if a telecommand or radio PA starts a panic alarm. In addition, the keypad does not display any alerts, but triggers the appropriate outputs. Audible – The control unit generates PA tones from the sounder and operates the strobe when a telecommand or radio PA starts a panic alarm, displays alerts on the keypads, and triggers the appropriate outputs (default). 21 MRNode M-Series Commissioning Manual Option 1-9-3: EN50131 Configuration This option has been reorganised, and some new options added. The list below shows the titles of existing options that have been allocated to new numbers, plus the new options with a description of their operation. 06 – Gen/fault: User / Eng In earlier versions of software this option was number 09. 07 – Telecommand Override This is a new option for this software version. N – A user with a telecommand cannot set the system if there is a fault that would require the user to acknowledge an alert at the keypad (default). Y – A user can set the system with a telecommand. Note that setting this option to “Y” is not sufficient to allow a user to set the system while faults are present: Option 06 Gen/fault must be set to “User” (default) to allow telecommand to override general faults. Option 13 AC Bypass must be set to “Always” (default) to allow a telecommand to override Panel Mains Fail, Remote PSU Mains Fail, PSU Power Zone Type alerts. Option 15 LF Bypass must be set to “Always” (default) or “User” to allow a telecommand to override PSTN faults. Option 09 Mask Override must be set to “override” (default) to allow a telecommand to override masking faults. 08 – 4k4 = Masking This is a new option for this software version. 22 M-Series Commissioning Manual MRNode Masking – The control unit treats a resistance of 4k4 on a wired detector as a Masking signal. Fault – The control unit treats a resistance of 4k4 as a Fault signal (default). 09 – Mask Override / Mask Inhibit By default, this option is set to “Mask Override”. In earlier versions of software this option was number 08. 10 – Mask Unset Fault / Mask Unset Tamp / Mask Unset Alarm In earlier versions of software this option was number 06. This option now has three settings: Mask Unset Fault (default) – The system will consider a masking condition when the zone is unset as a fault condition. Outputs programmed as Mask Fault will activate. Mask Unset Tamp – The system will consider a masking condition when the zone is unset as a tamper condition. Outputs programmed as Mask Tamper will activate. Mask Unset Alarm – The system will consider a masking condition when the zone is unset as an alarm condition. Outputs programmed as Mask Alarm will also activate. 11 – Mask Set Alarm / Mask Set Tamper / Mask Set Fault In earlier versions of software this option was number 07.
