M18 Amplifier User Guide Thank you for purchasing the M18 amplifier. The amplifier has been designed to give you greater flexibility and control of your telephone headset. We have included this user guide for your convenience so you may quickly enjoy the many features of your amplifier. INSTALLATION Installing the batteries or AC power adapter • Remove the battery cover on the side of the amplifier • Install 2 “AA” alkaline batteries and replace the cover • Press the mute button to confirm if the batteries are fitted correctly • Simply plug in the external power supply to use the amplifier without batteries • NOTE: Do not use batteries and a power supply together CONNECTION TO YOUR TELEPHONE AND HEADSET • • • Unplug your telephone handset cord from the telephone base and plug it into the handset port (pictured) on the back of the amplifier NOTE: If your phone has a headset port and you plug your amplifier into the port, there may not be a need to unplug the handset or remove it from the cradle. See your sales representative for information on headset ready phones Connect the short curly cord provided on the back of the amplifier to the handset jack of your phone Plug the headset into the headset jack in the front of the amplifier TESTING BEFORE USE Check the telephone • While wearing the headset, lift the handset from its cradle and position it off-hook and press a line button and listen • If you can’t hear the dial tone at the supplied setting remove the security cover located on the side of the amplifier and slide the compatibility switch to No. 2 until you can hear a dial tone. If the transmission voice can not be heard or is very low, slide the microphone selection switch to “C” • If your amplifier is still not working properly, try the following: If there is a beep sound, turn the transmission volume controller to the left side (-) for low volume. If the listening/transmission volume is low, turn the transmission volume to the right (+) and increase the listening volume controller at the same time until it is increased to a proper level. If there is a listening tone adjust both the listening and the transmission volume controllers to the low volume side at the same time. If there is a high pitched feedback when the volume is set to the normal usage levels, adjust the distance of the headset boom between the microphone cap and your mouth. The correct distance is 2.5 cm from your mouth NOTE: Adjust the compatible switch on the front of the amp to the left if you have a standard Smith Corona or Jabra wired headset. If you have a Plantronics headset the switch should be to the right. OPERATION OF YOUR AMPLIFIER Receiving calls from your headset • Set the headset/handset button to the headset position. When the phone rings lift the handset from the cradle and position it on your desk and you can now call on the headset • You can answer the telephone using the handset and switch to the headset after answering the telephone with the handset by switching the headset/handset button to the headset position.
