Installation Download the S235 App onto your Device from the Google Playstore. Version number You will find the App's version number under Settings / Applications manager / S235. Please be aware that this App requires certain software states to be installed on the Revox Joy for it to work without any problems. You will find more about this on the Revox website www.revox.com. Requirements Joy software 1.10 is at least needed for the S235 App with Version 1.1.39. The Revox Joy must be in Quickstart mode, to be able start it using the App. You can configure this mode with the remote control under Basic settings - Network. Alternatively, you can also call this mode using the "Start Up" button on the back of the device. The Revox Joy can be started up from standby within 3 seconds, if the Quickstart mode is activated. This increases the power consumption 2 compared to standby mode. You will find details about this in the Revox Joy Operating manual. If you want to benefit from the reduced power consumption of the Revox Joy standby mode and still want to operate the device with the S235 App, the Joy must be switched on using the S208 remote control first. A reliable WLAN connection must exist between the Device and the Revox Joy to ensure stable communication between the App and the Revox Joy. An interruption in the connection can usually be identified by the fact that the App no longer reacts. Number of clients Only one device at a time can access a Revox Joy. It is possible that the connection will be refused initially, if an attempt is made to make a parallel access to the Revox Joy using a second device. In the background however, the second device attempts to establish a connection, which is normally achieved after approximately 20 seconds, if the first device is not insisting on a permanent connection. Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App OPERATION Start the App on your device. After a brief Welcome view (picture below), you will see a Device list, showing all the Revox Joy products found in the network. The App then connects automatically with the last Joy to have been selected. Our example on the right shows the screen after 3 Joy Receivers had been found. It is however also possible to operate a Joy S118 or Symphony with the S235 App. If there is no current connection between the device and a Joy Receiver, this is indicated by a red line through the connection. If a connection exists, this is displayed with the corresponding IP address as shown in the picture below. 3 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual Switching on through the App Source selection The factory setting for the name that will be shown for a Revox Joy in the Device List is "S118, S119, S120 or Symphony". You can modify this name under Settings - Network - Network name ID to meet your individual requirements, e.g. "Lounge". You will find all available Joy sources on the Start page. Select your desired source by clicking on the button. Depending on which source you select, the system switches either to the Play view (local sources) or to a Navigation view, e.g. Internet Radio or Audio Server. The Joy power status is shown at the top right-hand side of the screen. If the icon is green, that indicates that the Revox Joy is switched on. If the icon is red, that indicates that the Revox Joy is switched off. Please be aware that the device cannot be operated through the App if it is in Standby mode (Quickstart Off). You will find related details about this under Quickstart mode in the Joy Operating Manual. You can tap on the icon and modify the Revox Joy Power Status to your requirements. 4 You can return to this list from most menus through the Source selection button . Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App Last Music Activating Filter The "Last Music" list contains the last 40 items to have been listened to on the Revox Joy. These can be Internet radio stations or also tracks from your music server. You can select by source through the Filter icon in the Tab bar and for example, just display Internet radio stations. Local sources are not listed here. Navigation is done in the same way as with the "My Music" source. This means that you jump directly from the list to the Play view. You can also clear the "Last Music" list by pressing and holding an entry. 5 Revox S235 Joy Android App Queue The queue represents a playlist that can be put together quickly and easily using the remote control or the Joy App. Similar to normal playlists, tracks are selected from the Music Server or USB area and added to the list. The list is stored directly in the Joy Receiver and can contain up to 250 tracks. With the S235 Joy App, it is even possible to create and manage several queues. Operating Manual Creating a Queue through lists Navigate to the track selection (list) in the Music Server or USB source where the desired track is located. Tapping and holding on a selected title opens up the Action menu, which offers various options: You can call the previously created playlist through the Queue option in the Main menu. Select the track where playback should start from. Start the queue playback with the OK button. Playback is only interrupted if another source is selected or when the last track in the queue finishes. The track that is currently being played is shown in blue. Add to My Music - see next chapter "My Music" Delete Queue All tracks are deleted from the queue. Add to Queue Now Adds the highlighted track at the end of the queue and then starts to play it Add All to Queue Now Adds all the tracks from the selected album at the end of the queue and then starts to play them. 6 Operating Manual Creating a Queue through Player When you are in the Play view, you can add the track that is currently being played to a queue (or also to the MyMusic selection) tapping and holding on the Cover picture. Revox S235 Joy App Delete / move queue entries You can edit a queue once it has been created. To do this, select the Queue as source from the Home folder and tap on . It is irrelevant whether a track from the queue is playing at the time or not. You can delete a queue entry through the Recycle Bin function. If you want to shift the position of an entry, press and hold the icon at the right-hand edge of a line until the line goes dark. Now you can drag the entry to any position in the list. Add to My Music - see next chapter "My Music" Delete Queue All tracks are deleted from the queue. Add to Queue / now Adds the highlighted track at the end of the queue and then starts to play it. Settings Opens the Settings menu - See "Settings" chapter 7 Revox S235 Joy Android App Queue actions Select the Queue source from the Home folder and tap and hold on any queue entry. The following Action menu appears: Operating Manual Load Queue Several queues can be created with the S235 App but only one queue can be active at a time. By using the "Load Queue" option, you can select which queue is currently active or should be used. You can create queues in advance to create different atmospheres or for different purposes, which can then simply be opened at the required time. The "Load Queue" action only appears in the menu if at least one queue has been saved previously. Remove Track from Queue Removes the currently selected track from the queue list. Delete Queue All tracks are deleted from the queue. Save Queue as In contrast to operation with the S208 Remote control, you can create and administer several queues with the S235 App. The queue that has currently been called can be stored under the same or a different name with the “Save Queue as” option. 8 Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App My Music Adding entries to My Music You can store up to 18 entries on a Revox Joy in the "My Music" folder. These entries are your individual favourites that you can modify and change at any time. You can add entries to the "My Music" list from a Play view of the Radio sources (iRadio, Tuner, DAB+). When you select the "My Music" source, a list with 18 entries is displayed. If you select an entry from the list, the App jumps to the corresponding Play view. The switching process takes a few seconds. To do this, tap on the "+ My Music" button in the top right-hand corner of the Play view . The entry is added to the next available memory location in the MyMusic list. With other streaming sources such as the Music Server, USB or iPod, you add the required track by tapping and holding on the track entry until the Action menu appears: There is an "Add to My Music at " option in the extended menu. If you select this option “…at Position”, you can select one of the 18 memory locations when storing your favourites. Within the Play view, you can control the volume or return back to the "My Music" list through Archive, using the buttons described above. Please be aware that depending on the current selection, Skip commands are carried out within the "My Music" entry. If, for example, an entry is a series of podcasts from a radio station, the Skip commands initially switches between the different podcasts before a jump is made to the next "My Music" entry. 9 Revox S235 Joy Android App In the case of sources whose entries can also be added to a queue, a combimenu for My Music and Queue appears. Operating Manual Editing My Music You can select the "My Music" folder from the Device list. You can edit an entry by pressing and holding it. Place the new entry at a free location in the MyMusic list or overwrite an existing entry. You can assign your choice of name to the entry with the "Rename" option. The "Delete object" option permanently removes the currently marked entry from the "My Music" list. The complete list is deleted with the last option "Clear List". Please note that the list is irrevocably deleted, without any further security confirmation. It is not possible to re-sort the MyMusic list. 10 Operating Manual Internet Radio If you select the Internet Radio source, you will see the Internet Radio Service selection options as described in the Revox Joy Operating manual. Navigate to find your favourite station by tapping on the corresponding menu item to open a further selection menu. You can always jump back one menu level with the "Back" button in the top left-hand corner. Revox S235 Joy App Subsequent stations are shown in alphabetical order by scrolling further. A scrollbar on the right-hand side of the screen shows you how long the list is. The Folder icon indicates that further menu items can be found under this list entry, which often refers to podcasts. If a radio station or a podcast is selected from the list, the App switches to the corresponding Play view. The "Home" button at the top right of the screen takes you directly back to the starting menu of the current source, in this case Internet Radio, whichever menu level you are currently at. Irrespective of how long a list is, initially only the first 100 entries are loaded. If available, the radio station icons are shown as thumbnails. 11 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual Play View Using the Archive button in the Tab bar, you can always jump to the archive of the currently selected source, in order make a new selection from the current source. You can display additional information about the station that is currently playing with the Info icon Up to three text lines appear at the top of the Internet Radio Play view, showing information about the radio station and what is currently being played. Revox has no influence on this text as it is transmitted by the Internet Radio stations. The radio station icon is shown underneath the text, assuming that the station puts out this information. A time display at the top left-hand corner of the screen shows how long the App has been accessing this station. The volume is changed correspondingly when you operate the volume control buttons. The sound is muted if you press and hold the left-hand speaker icon. Using the Skip button , you can move from one station to the next within the last menu. If there is only one entry in a menu, no Skip can be carried out. 12 . Operating Manual DAB+ / FM Radio The DAB+ and FM Radio sources are only visible if this option is integrated in the Joy and if the sources have been defined as "visible" in the Settings. Revox S235 Joy App During the initial setup, you can get the radio to search for stations with an Automemory function. To do this, press and hold the Source button of DAB+ respectively FM Tuner within the Home menu. Once the stations have been found, you can adjust the list to your personal requirements. To do this, press the "Sort" button in the list. The Radio selection gives you a list of all available stations. You can then select a station from the list and the Joy switches to the Play view. Rename stations If you press and hold in the area of an entry's name, you can edit it. 13 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual Delete stations USB The application switches to "Edit" mode. You can delete an entry through the Recycle Bin function. Selecting the USB source gives you access to a USB storage medium. Unlike a NAS or PC with an installed UPnP service, a USB storage medium is just a collection of data. Sort stations If you want to shift the position of a station, press and hold the icon at the right-hand edge of a line until the line goes dark. Now you can drag the station to any position in the list. When navigating through a USB storage medium, you see a file structure like the one you would see on a PC. Station Information You can display additional information about the station that is currently playing with the Info icon . The USB Play view is essentially very similar to that of the Internet Radio. The three text lines above the cover show the name of the artist(s), the track currently playing and the name of the album. A progress bar relating to the current track is shown above the text lines. The elapsed time is shown to the left of the bar and the remaining time to the right. 14 Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App Shuffle  Track shuffle: Depending on which selection criterion you activated the Shuffle function at, either only the tracks within an album (Albums) or all the tracks in the music folder are played in a random order. When activated, the icon colour changes from grey to blue. Repeat Repeat Track  If the Repeat Track function is activated, individual tracks can be repeated. When activated, the icon colour changes from grey to blue. Using the Skip buttons, you can jump to the previous or the next track from the last menu. If you press and hold the Skip back button for longer than 2 seconds, the current track starts playing again and you can only access the previous track by pressing the button again briefly. Once the end of the list has been reached, pressing the Skip button again reveals the previous menu and quits the Play view. Repeat Album  With the Repeat album function , complete folders (albums, songs, etc.) can be repeated. Track information You can display additional information about the track that is currently playing with the Info icon . Unlike with the Internet Radio Play view, a Play/Pause button is displayed. This shows what action will be carried out if the button is pressed again and toggles between Play and Pause. 15 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual iPod If you select the iPod source, the music on an iDevice* connected to a Revox Joy is accessed. Operation and music selection are carried out in the same way as described in the Music server chapter. The navigation menus are defined by the iDevice. Track information You can display additional information about the track that is currently playing with the Info icon Please be aware that with an iDevice, no cover can be transmitted because of the specification laid down by Apple. * Apple products, e.g. iPod, iPhone, iPad. Please check compatibility in the corresponding Joy Operating Instructions. 16 . Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App Audio Server If you select Audio Server from the Source menu, you first see a menu of all the UPnP services found in the network. The entry S37-12345 for example indicates the corresponding Revox Audio Server for the Joy series, assuming that you are using one. Navigate to your music in the usual way by tapping on a menu entry. In some lists, the album cover is shown in front of the text. Whether a cover is displayed is entirely dependent on the UPnP service that you use to access your music collection and on whether a cover was stored during ripping. Programs exist where you can extend the metadata by adding cover images and you will find a lot of such applications in the Internet. Revox has had good experiences with the MP3 Tag program. The text displays are also entirely dependent on the metadata and the UPnP service used. You can scroll through the lists in the normal way. Large lists in the Music server have to be loaded in blocks like with the Internet Radio stations. You can branch to the different menus using the Back, Archive or Source selection buttons and start a new search The Play view is essentially very similar to that of the Internet Radio. The three text lines above the cover show the name of the artist(s), the track currently playing and the name of the album. Below this, the album cover is shown. If no cover is available, many UPnP services display their own icon. If this is also not available, Revox puts a placeholder at this position. 17 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual Searching in archives You can also search for entries in most archives. To do this, click on the Search icon in the Tab bar . You can enter the search text and search parameters in the dialogue screen that now opens. Once you have entered the search criteria, confirm the start of the search with the OK button. If a cover appears pixelated, this is usually caused by the cover resolution being too low or by the fact that the UPnP service scales down the cover, in order to achieve a higher transmission speed. Please check the corresponding settings in the UPnP service. 18 Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App Bluetooth Once the Bluetooth properties have been defined in the Basic settings, you can connect a Bluetooth transmitter, e.g. your Smartphone to the Joy Receiver and listen to music from your cell phone through your Joy music system, in the best quality. Pairing Bluetooth devices If a Bluetooth is identified that has not yet been paired, [Visibility: All] “Connection request from: xy” appears in the S208 display. A connection can now be established with the OK button. At the same time, the Bluetooth source is added to the list of paired devices. The Bluetooth logo changes from grey to blue and the name of the device is displayed. In the source menu an Eject symbol appears. The symbol can be used to disconnect the Bluetooth connection by the receiver respectively the app. No PIN code is used or required. As well as the standard transmission formats, your Joy Receiver can also handle the audiophile apt-X format. The AVRCP control function offers you the convenience of being able to remotely control the Play, Pause, Stop Track_up / _down functions on your Bluetooth source using the Joy Remote control. You will find more information about the Bluetooth possibilities in the user manual of the joy receiver. 19 Revox S235 Joy Android App Comfort start using Quick Connect From software version 2.2, the Joy Receiver can be restarted from standby directly by the establishment of a new Bluetooth connection, without needing the S208 Remote control or the Joy App. To do this, you simply make a connection from the Bluetooth source, e.g. cell phone to the Joy Receiver. Thanks to the Quickstart function, you can for example, start your music system through a simple Bluetooth connection as you enter your lounge. In this case, the Bluetooth source is started automatically and the previously defined Bluetooth basic volume level is selected. The actual volume level can be set through the Bluetooth transmitter. The conditions that are needed for a comfort start though the Quick connect function are described in from Page 33. 20 Operating Manual Operating Manual Revox S235 Joy App CD-Player If the Joy Receiver is connected to the Joy CD player over the CD-Link connection, the CD player source appears. After the CD player source has been selected, the CD is read in accompanied by the following screen display: If a CD is inserted, a track list is displayed. If the CD has tracks with CD text, these are displayed. Otherwise, the tracks are numbered in ascending order. Now you can select your desired track by tapping it. Thereby the display changes to playback view. At the same time an Eject symbol appears in the source menu, with which you can eject the disc if required. Comfort functions You can also start a CD by switching the CD player on using the Power button on the glass front panel. This also automatically activates the Joy Receiver and the CD starts to play. Automatic playback is also started by inserting a CD. 21 Revox S235 Joy Android App Operating Manual Local inputs Play View You can switch to the up to six local inputs from the Source menu. After a defined time, the App jumps back from most menus to the corresponding Play view. When selecting a local input, an immediate switch is made to the Play view, which gives you information about the selected source and allows the volume level to be controlled. If you want to return to the current Play view before this time has elapsed, you can press the Play view button in the Tab bar. My Files You can stream the music on Android device directly into the through the "My Files" source. In case, select the "My Files" source then the desired music. All Joy receivers offer the option of assigning freely definable names to its analogue and digital inputs. You no longer have to remember which external device is connected to which input. You can simply give each input a name that makes the assignment obvious. In the Play view shown here, the name "BluRay" is assigned to the optical input. 22 the Joy this and You can recognise "My Files" in the Play view from the following display. Settings Revox S235 Joy App SETTINGS Discover Devices You will also find a "Settings" button in the S235 App Tab bar . You can access all Joy product Configuration menus through this button. Using the "Discover Device" option, you can search for Revox Joy products in the network and then select these as devices to be operated. Note: If you want to integrate a Joy product over a Wi-Fi connection and operate it exclusively through the S235 App, a LAN connection is required the first time the Wi-Fi settings on the Joy are configured. Otherwise, the Joy cannot be reached through the Wi-Fi. The unbroken blue line indicates that the App is connected to the Joy. A dotted line indicates that the devices are establishing a connection. If no connection can be established, the blue line is crossed through in red. 23 Revox S235 Joy Android App APP SETTINGS A few parameters can be modified to your requirements under Application settings. App Settings The App reacts somewhat more quickly without Album Art as no images have to be loaded. Play My Files Activating this option displays a further source, "My Files", in the Home menu that contains your device's music data. With this, you can play music files from your smartphone (Android device) directly on your Joy. The S235 uses the Music Server's UPnP service here. Auto Connect Auto Connect attempts to establish a connection to the last Joy device to have been operated. If you don't want to use this comfort function, it can be deselected. Show Album Art Display album art offers you further options as to whether the corresponding images should be shown with the different tracks and stations. Clear Cache Empties the S235's cache area. This only becomes effective once the device is restarted. 24 Device Settings Revox S235 Joy App DEVICE SETTINGS Select Language The different Joy configuration settings can be made through Device settings, so that the Joy can be matched to your individual requirements. You can select the operating language through this menu item. This setting is made on the Joy and not in the App, which means that it is also applied for other users. Select the desired language. Once you have made your choice, the Joy is restarted and is not available in the network for a short time. Note: If you should deploy the S208 Remote control and the App at the same time, it is important that the same language is defined on both devices as otherwise conflicts can occur. The remote control S208 has the priority. 25 Revox S235 Joy Android App Time Basically, the time used with Joy products is fetched from the Internet. If required, it can also be set manually. Device Settings Each Joy can have an individual name assigned, with which it is then visible in the network. You can modify the name under Network Name-ID. The network access parameters can be defined under LAN and Wi-Fi configuration. The various terms are explained in the Revox Joy Operating manual. Network All the network settings can be made through the Network menu. If required, you can restart the network, in order to obtain a new IP address. After executing this option, the Joy is restarted and is not available for a short time. The Quickstart option has to be activated, in order to be able to start a Joy from an App. Alternatively, you can use the "Start Up" button on the rear of the Joy. The currently assigned IP address and other network parameters are found under "Network status". No modifications can be made through this menu item. 26 Device Settings Sound Settings Revox S235 Joy App Advanced In this menu, you can raise and lower the bass and treble settings in the range of ± 12dB. By activating the Subwoofer Output, low frequencies are only output through the subwoofer output. The Balance can also be adjusted through this menu. Change the position of the slider in the corresponding menus and apply the value with the OK button. Under Speaker Arrangement, you can define the location of the speakers in the room. Please refer to the Joy Operating Manual for an explanation of the various terms. You can also select which Revox Speakers are connected. The digital signal processor in the Joy adjusts the frequency response in the Joy so that you get the best possible sound experience. You can define the optimum matching of the Revox Joy with the Revox speakers in the advances sound settings. 27 Revox S235 Joy Android App Level Adjustment The level of external sources can vary significantly from one to the other in the case of local sources. In order to be able to switch between sources without there being a change in volume level. each of the 9 “external” sources can be adjusted individually in 1 dB steps in the range of +/- 6 dB. Device Settings Show sources There are optional sources available with the Revox Joy, such as DAB+ / FM Radio. If only one radio type is being used, the radio type that is not being used can be hidden, so that it doesn't keep appearing as an option in the Sources/ Home view. To do this, simply remove the tick after the source. UPnP Control If this option is activated, the Joy can be controlled from UPnP Control points. This option must be active if you want to access the Joy with other UPnP controllers. Remote access can be deactivated if you only want to access through the S235 App. A factory reset returns the level settings to 0 dB. 28 Device Settings Revox S235 Joy App Alarm Clock 1/2 A Revox Joy has two alarm clocks. These offer the option of switching on a Joy product at a preset time, with a particular source and at a selected volume. You can configure the corresponding alarm settings with the two Alarm clock menus. The status of the alarm clock is shown in small letters underneath the menu entry. You select the source that should be activated through the Source field. You can choose from an alarm tone, the streaming sources and the 18 entries from the "My Music" list. Please ensure that the selected source will be available at the required time. If the source should not be available, the alarm tone is used instead. The alarm clock is active if there is a tick next to it and at the pre-defined time, the selected source will start to play. The Switch-on time defines the timepoint when the Joy product should start up. You can easily define the time through the following menu. 29 Revox S235 Joy Android App The switch-on volume between 0- 40 can be set easily using the slider. Device Settings Sleep-Timer Using the Sleep timer, you can define a time period up to 120 minutes after which the Joy should go into stand-by mode. The last choice to be made is to define which weekdays the alarm clock should be activated on. Select the desired time period. The Sleep timer now starts automatically. You can check whether the source and the selected volume are suitable for your purposes with the "Check Alarm Clock now" button. 30 Device Settings Revox S235 Joy App Short Time Alarm Auto Standby The Joy has a short-term timer function. The short-term timer list shows a list of times after which the Joy should be started again. When the Joy has reached the end of a playlist for example and is idling, it can switch automatically to the Standby state after 20 minutes if this option is activated. Once you have selected a time, the Joy shuts down, in order to start up again once the selected time has elapsed. 31 Revox S235 Joy Android App Device Settings CD-Player CD player switch-on behaviour Here you can define how the Joy Receiver should handle the CD player switch-on behaviour. [if required] The CD player is only switched on if the user switches from a non-CD source to the CD player source or if a wake-up event activates the CD player. Otherwise, the CD player remains in standby. If the CD player has been switched on by the receiver, it remains switched on until either another source is selected or the receiver goes into standby. If there is an optional CD-Link connection to the Joy CD player, a further dynamic menu item appears in the Basic settings [CD player]. [Together with Receiver] As soon as the receiver is switched on, the CD player is also activated and remains switched on until the receiver is switched off again. This has the advantage that CD is read in immediately after the start-up and playback can start as soon as the CD player is selected as the source.  Create CD-Link connection The CD-Link connection should only be established when all power has been removed. Next time the Joy CD/Receiver combination is switched on, the CD player must be switched on first so that the receiver can recognise it 32 Info: Quickstart + CD player If the Joy CD player is connected over CD-Link, the Quickstart function is activated automatically, which means that there is only a couple of seconds between the CD player or the receiver beings switched on and CD playback starting. It is not possible to deactivate Quickstart as long there is a CD-Link connection to the CD player. Device Settings Revox S235 Joy App Bluetooth Visibility (“Discoverability”) The visibility of the Bluetooth receiver (Joy Receiver) can be set in the Basic settings for Bluetooth transmitters, e.g. Smartphones. [Bluetooth deactivated] The module is deactivated and has no function. The “Bluetooth” source entry in the Home menu is hidden in this mode. The Joy Receiver is not visible to Bluetooth transmitters. [For Paired devices] The Joy Receiver is invisible to Bluetooth transmitters that are not in the Pairing list, i.e. no connection can be established between them. On the other hand, Bluetooth transmitters that are already paired will establish a connection immediately and start playback without any confirmation on the receiver side being necessary. [For Everyone] The Joy Receiver is visible as a Bluetooth device for other Bluetooth transmitters. Bluetooth transmitters that are already paired can establish a connection immediately and start playback without any confirmation on the receiver side being necessary. In the case of Bluetooth transmitters that are not yet paired with the Joy Receiver, a connection request is generated that has to be confirmed through the OK button on the remote control. If an audio source is currently selected, a message appears about the request. Unpairing devices Bluetooth transmitters can be removed from the list of paired devices by keep touching the area with the Bluetooth tramsmitter that is to be removed. The following display appears: Now you can either remove only the selected device or the complete list of paired devices. Bluetooth transmitters can only be added to the list through a new connection request. 33 Revox S235 Joy Android App Audio format As well as the standard SBC and AAC audio formats (Codec), the Joy Receiver can also work with the high-definition aptX format. Normally, the Bluetooth source and the Joy Receiver communicate automatically using the best format. If this doesn't happen and only a distorted audio transmission or even no transmission at all takes place, the aptX format can be deactivated using the [Audio format] setting so that only an SBC or an AAC connection is established. Selection: [aptX, ACC, SBC] [ACC, SBC] Device Settings Basic volume The Joy Receiver's start-up volume level for the Bluetooth source can be defined through the Basic volume setting, which is then selected when you activate your Joy Receiver from standby mode with a Bluetooth connection. You should select a basic volume level that, together with your normal cell phone volume level, results in the desired start-up volume. Note: The volume setting in the Bluetooth source, e.g. cell phone, tablet, etc., is transmitted with the Bluetooth signal. This means that if the cell phone volume is set to 0, the Joy Receiver will also remain muted even at the maximum receiver volume setting. The Basic volume level setting doesn't cause any change to the general switchon behaviour of the Joy Receiver in respect of other sources, i.e.: switch-off volume = switch-on volume up to Vol. 20, or if > 20, Vol. 5 in the case of a restart. 34 Device Settings Quick Connect The Joy Receiver can be restarted from standby directly by the establishment of a new Bluetooth connection, without needing the S208 Remote control or the Joy App. To do this, you simply make a connection from the Bluetooth source, e.g. cell phone to the Joy Receiver. So for example, you can start your music system through a simple Bluetooth connection as you enter your lounge. The volume level will be set through the Bluetooth transmitter. Revox S235 Joy App Four conditions must be fulfilled for this automatic process to happen: 1. The Joy Receiver must be in Quick Connect mode.  [Basic settings / Network / Quick Connect] 2. The Bluetooth transmitter and the Joy Receiver must previously have been paired, i.e. the Bluetooth transmitter must be included in the list of paired devices.* List  [Basic settings / Bluetooth / Uncouple devices] 4. The Quick Connect setting must be activated [On]  [Basic settings / Bluetooth / Quick Connect] 35 Revox S235 Joy Android App USB supply If an external power supply is used to provide power for USB devices, there are high levels of equalising current because of the different USB voltages of the Joy USB and the external USB power supply. Additionally, some components in the Joy Receiver will receive power from the external power supply while in standby, which can result in malfunctions or incorrect displays. The internal USB power supply can be switched off through the USB supply setting so that only the storage medium's data lines are connected to the Joy Receiver and there are no unwelcome equalising currents. The correct setting for storage media without an external power supply, e.g. USB memory sticks or Apple products such as iPod, iPhone, etc. is [internal Joy]. Use the [external] setting if you are deploying USB discs with external power supply. 36 Device Settings Firmware This menu contains the software version information for all the processors that are used in the Joy. This may be required by the Revox Service Team. You can also carry out a software update on Joy products, starting from this menu. To do this, select the option "Check for Updates" and then the location where the update should be downloaded from. We recommend using the Internet Update for LAN networks. With wireless networks, please download the current firmware from our website, copy it to a USB stick and carry out the update from there. After you have selected the installation source, the system displays the currently installed versions and the version that is available for download. Device Settings Revox S235 Joy App Display modes After comparing the two values, you can either start or cancel the update. The Revox Android App S235 offers solely portrait orientation. Special cases If a source is not available, e.g. a USB stick is not plugged in or an iPod is not connected, this situation is normally indicated through a small information window. 37 Revox Joy S235 App Operating manual / Part no.: 10.30.3316
