MA20DC 20 AMP, DC TO DC BATTERY CHARGER MA20DCS 20 AMP, DC TO DC BATTERY CHARGER WITH SOLAR INPUT FEATURES Matson MA20DC and MA20DCS • Designed to boost the low voltage found at the end of long cable lengths to a useable level so your Auxiliary battery can be recharged to 100%. • Three (3) Stage smart charging which comprises of BOOST, ABSORPTION and FLOAT ensures simple yet optimal charging. • This charger range has been built tough for Australian conditions. Rated at IP65, the charger is resistant to dust and is splash/rain proof. • Electronically protected against user error, the charger will not damage vehicle electronics. • Short circuit and reverse polarity protected. • This charger is micro-processor controlled to protect against overcharging the auxiliary battery and ensures the donor battery is not discharged below 12.2 volts. This will ensure the donor battery is left with enough voltage to start the vehicle. • Chemistry selectable: the operator can select the appropriate setting to match the specific chemistry of your auxiliary battery. GEL, Calcium or AGM/DeepCycle/SLA. This feature, unlike other units on the market, allows you to change chemistries at the push of a button. Once selected, the charger remembers the chemistry selected, no matter what happens, until the operator selects a different chemistry. • Microchip monitoring, management and control. • Electronic touch-button selection. • Inbuilt overheating protection. • (MA20DCS Only) Charger will act as a regulator. i.e: connected solar panels are not to be regulated. 2 • Inbuilt over charge protection. Charger will automatically reduce current (amps) as required to optimise battery charging. • The charger has been designed to recommence charging from float mode when a load is placed on the auxiliary battery. i.e. if auxiliary battery is fully charged and the charger is in float mode, the charger will recommence it’s charging cycle automatically when the auxiliary battery is used again. • Can be used with either Fixed or Variable voltage alternators (with outputs above 12.2 Volts) WARNINGS • Before connecting the charger ensure you have read the instruction manual in full. • Explosive gases may escape from the battery during charging. Keep away from flames and sparks. Ensure area is well ventilated. • Ensure charger is not immersed in water or exposed to excessive dust. • For charging 12 Volt batteries only. • This appliance is not for use with non-rechargeable batteries. • Ensure charger is placed well away from battery. • This appliance should not be operated by children. • Always check specifications of battery manufacturer on charge rates and voltage prior to charging. • Do not use the charger with damaged cable. • Do not charge frozen battery. • Before charging, make sure the input is within stipulated rating level, otherwise charging performance may be seriously affected. 3 Installation Instructions • Install the charger in a suitable location within the vehicle, although the charger is splash resistant we recommend it to be placed in a dry area. • It is recommended that you locate the Charger no closer than 300mm and no further than 3000mm from the auxiliary battery, but it should always be closer to the auxiliary battery. • Secure the charger with brackets and screws provided. • Output cables: 1. Connect the Red (positive) cable to the Red (positive) terminal on the auxiliary battery. 2. Connect the Black (negative) cable to the Black (negative) terminal on the auxiliary battery. • Input cables: 1. Connect the Blue (Positive) cable to the Red (positive) terminal on the main cranking battery. 2. Connect the Black (negative) cable to the Black (negative) terminal on the main cranking battery. 3. SOLAR INPUT (MA20DCS ONLY) - Connect the Yellow (Solar) cable to the solar panel. (Recommended panel range 10 - 500 watts unregulated) Once the input voltage from the solar panel rises to 13.0v, the charger will commence charging the auxiliary battery. The charging rate will depend on the output current of the solar panels. i.e. Watts ÷ Volts=Amps 120÷13=9.2Amps • Check all electrical connections are secure and tight. 4 5 Operating Instructions Once correctly installed the Matson MA20DC & MA20DCS chargers are very simple. Just “set your Chemistry and forget”. Charger Display: • Red LED indicates “POWER” is on to the unit • Green LED indicates the unit is “CHARGING” the auxiliary battery. • Yellow LED indicates the auxiliary battery is “FULLY CHARGED” and the charger has moved to a Float Mode. • The battery chemistry selected is indicated by the Green LED. First Charger Start Up: • Start your vehicle and the charger, after a few moments, will automatically recognise that there is a charge being applied to the cranking battery. When the cranking battery reaches 13 volts the charger will turn on and begin charging the auxiliary battery. • Now it is time to select your battery chemistry. Press the “SELECTOR SWITCH” until the LED is beside the correct chemistry setting for your auxiliary battery. • The charger will now memorise the chemistry setting and automatically will make it the default setting when turned back on. If you need to change the chemistry, repeat the instructions above. Remember the charger will always default to its last setting. • *NOTE- Once the main cranking battery falls below 12.2volts the charger will stop operating and switches itself off. Alternatively if the auxiliary battery has reached its desired charge level the charger will STOP CHARGING and go to the yellow LED “FULLY CHARGED” and the charger will move to a Float Mode. Maintenance: The charger is maintenance free. Note that if the charger is disassembed by anyone other than a recommended Matson repairer, your warranty will be void. 6 Technical Specifications Model No Type Input Low Voltage Cutout Output Current Output Voltage MA20DC & MA20DCS 3 Stage pulse charge 9.0v to 30.0v DC 12.2 Volt 20 Amp GEL CALCIUM Absorption Fully Charged (Float Charge) Reverse Polarity Protection Solar Panel Reverse Polarity Protection Recommended Solar Panel (min) Soft Start Equalization 14.3V 13.3V Max Output Power Minimum Start Voltage (Auxiliary Battery) Float Mode Current Draw Ambient Temperature Dimensions Battery Range Deep Cycle Automotive 14.7V 13.8V AGM/Deep Cycle/VRLA 14.7V 13.8V 40A (Fuse supplied) 20A (Fuse Supplied) - MA20DCS ONLY 10 - 500 Watts unregulated Yes - (Gradual ramp up of charger output) Automatic - (Charger will commence this process at start up) 250W 1.5V <10mA -15C to +50C 150x160x53mm (LxWxH) 18 ~ 250AH 150~1000CCA 7 Warranty Card (To be detatched and returned with the unit to the below address) Name: Company Name: Address: Ph: Fax: E-mail: Purchased From: Date Purchased: Product Purchased (Model No.): This product is supplied with a 1 Year Warranty from date of purchase.
