USB Hostless modems not recognised on a Mac computer The Problem: When inserting a ‘USB Hostless’ modem such as the MF823 no install options appear. First make sure all previous ZTE/Telstra modem software has been uninstalled. If the device is still not recognised there may be a startup program from a previous device that has not been removed. Check for any Kernel Extension (kext) files that start with ‘ZTE’ To Check: Select ->Go ->Computer Navigate to the following Folder path (Hard drive name) ->System ->Library ->Extensions Look for any files starting with ZTE Eg. ZTEUSBCDCACMData.kext ZTEUSBMassStorageFilter.kext These need to be removed After this the ‘Kernel Extension Cache’ needs to be rebuilt Do not remove the files if you do not know how you are going to rebuild the CACHE 1. Move the file(s) to trash, you will need to enter your password to do this 2. To rebuild the ‘Kernel Extension Cache’ use Terminal if you are familiar with it In Terminal enter the following commands. These commands delete the CACHE sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel sudo kextcache -system-caches or use a third party utility like Kext Wizard http://wizards.osxla...t/download.html 3. Whichever method used restart the computer This may take a little longer than usual as the CACHE is rebuilt Now after inserting the modem a Telstra drive icon should appear allowing you to install the device
