Gravimetric Blending do you know? Product Update WSB MB mix motor update Technical Bulletin There has been a recent change to the Micro Blender mix motor. This will now be a pneumatic actuator, replacing the electric motor. The pneumatic actuator provides a more efficient and reliable mix. There are two options with the new actuator, it can be protruding on either the right or left of the blender, looking from the front. This is because, when mounted directly on a machine, there could be an obstruction to either the right or left of the blender. So when ordering a MicroBlender, please be sure to check this. Simply state in your order whether you would like the actuator mounted on the left or right hand side. This has been achieved due to their potential of combining high performance design and styling flexibility. Typical automotive applications are dashboard carriers, technical front-ends, seat shells, bumper carrier, battery trays, and spare wheel dwells. Due to the geometry of the fibres, length can range up to 25mm or more. Therefore it is very easy to “bridge” inside the WSB hopper and across the slide gate. It is very important that the slide gate used in the fibre hopper be a 3” x 6” and that the finger guard is removed. We are also starting to create small videos on some regularly asked questions. For example, see our colour change and clean out video in the link below. The material blends are prepared centrally based on a mix of PVC powder, Impact Modifier, UV stabiliser, Master batch and processing aid. The blend of powders is then conveyed via a central material handling system to a holding hopper located above a starve feeder which sits on the throat of the twin screw extruder. In this application the product being produced was a 2 strand “back and front” window profile incorporating inline gasket extrusion. The front and back strand are mirror images of each other and technically should be equal in weight and dimension. Contents Follow mode – The POT card, when in Manual, will act as a pass through by connecting the reference voltage (0-10vdc) from the primary device such as a PLC touch screen to the extruder speed drive, so start up procedure stays exactly the same for the operator. When in Lock, LineMaster takes over the speed control. i                                               Following the installation of the LineMaster system the customer benefited from:- View PDF            • Increased product yield of 3 to 4 % [15 to 20kg/h saving achieved on 500kg/h] Gravimetric Blending • Enhanced product dimensional stability – Profile strand variance [the difference between minimum and maximum weight on tested “front to back” samples] was cut to 3% from a previous norm of between 5 and 10% LineMaster Extrusion Control • Reduced Scrap to ZERO in a like for like test run over 5 days – previous month totals for the same period were between 690kg and 1155kg Product status Latest Software Download latest available software Click Here • Specialised personnel not required to stabilise and optimise the line – a critical factor in lean manufacturing. Materials Drying Product Update Materials conveying Sweepers G2 Software contact us FEB 2014 02 Product Guide Download Accuracy overview Following the recent installation of LineMaster on an optical cable sheathing line – operational data has been collected to access the effectiveness of the LineMaster system and the results have been plotted to show precisely the comparisons between line speeds, RPM and product dimensions. The large increases and decrease of the line speed (blue) can be seen as the cable drums are exchanged when they get full, the most important fact is that the grams/metre and cable diameter (brown and red) are maintained within the +/ – 0.2mm customer tolerance even during these large changes. This is due to TRIM mode tracking the capstan line speed using a 0-10v feedback signal and adjusting the extruder RPM (green) to maintain target grams/metre set by the operator. m a g u i r e e u r o p e Product Feature Automatic Specific Gravity calculation LineMaster performance on an optical cable sheathing line When producing multi-layer blown films it is important to know the Specific Gravity (SG) of the blended materials to ensure the correct layer ratios and overall Micron gauge. Normally this calculation could be done manually, and then entered into the G2 Yield control screen. However – by entering each materials SG into the material data base, when a recipe is then created it will automatically calculate the blended SG when uploaded to the blender and LIW controller removing the risk of any human error and reducing scrap. t e c h n i c a l b u lle t i n · iss u e 0 2 · F E B RUARY 2 0 1 4 2 Gravimetric Feeders Moulding Focus Technical Bulletin When the MGF is used for injection moulding applications, the accuracy of the dispense is maintained by the software constantly monitoring the screw back time signal and then making adjustments to the stepper motor speed to maintain the dispense target. Variations in screw back time will always happen either due to the operator making fine adjustments to the shot weight, or as the processing parameters change naturally due to temperatures, pressures and material densities. Contents Gravimetric Blending The screw back time monitoring is completely automatic, the operator only has to set the Shot Weight and LDR (Let Down Ratio) percentage. Product Guide Download NEW Hopper design now in stock Materials Drying special application Materials conveying Whether it be an extrusion or injection moulding application, the automation of loading the MGF hoppers is always a good option to offer the customer. There are two ways this can be done. Sweepers G2 Software contact us FEB 2014 AGL-ST and custom options 02 Option 1 Option 2 Firstly the Maguire AGL-ST is a simple venturi loading system for “beside the machine” material storage such as a plastic wheeled bin. The air supply to the venturi is controlled with a 24vdc solenoid and by the fill levels set inside the MGF controller. The material is blown up the hose from the probe and into the MGF through a lightweight flexible hose to minimise effects to the load cell readings. The is a quick disconnect for easy removal of the hopper for cleaning. Use the same 24vdc signal but this time to control a valve supplied by others. In this way, central system loaders can be used mounted above the MGF hopper and the material falls by gravity. The important note is that the no direct connections are made to the MGF hopper, otherwise the load cells cannot measure the weight of the material in the hopper. In the picture, the hose is connected to a lid which is not physically touching the MGF hopper. m a g u i r e e u r o p e t e c h n i c a l b u lle t i n · iss u e 0 2 · F E B RUARY 2 0 1 4 3 Materials Drying do you know? Product Feature Slide Out Vacuum Chamber Technical Bulletin Both the VBD1000 and VBD150 now have load cells fitted as standard to the vacuum and retention hoppers. This removes the need for level sensors and gives far greater control. Material consumption and throughputs can be calculated and displayed. As many of you may have seen, our model shown during the K Show did not feature the slide out vacuum tank. This is now in production and all VBD models will have the new feature. This has many advantages, the main one being the ease of clean out for the operator. The operator removes the fastening clip and slides the chamber straight out, allowing them to clean the inside of the chamber, it then slides back to it’s original position and the clip is fastened in a quick and easy process. i Product status Contents Latest Software LPD Download VBD Download Click Here Click Here Gravimetric Blending Product Guide For the latest information about this product, download our latest interactive product guide. Here is a small case study on the project: Gravimetric Blending “MP Extruders stands out both in Greek and international markets for the manufacturing of Blown Film extrusion lines, but also for providing integrated plastic production solutions based on technology. One of the latest solutions was the installation of Maguire’s LIW, WSB and G2 software over a WI-FI network, including the use of a Windows tablet as a terminal to control the line. Using a wireless rooter to connect WSB and LIW controllers I achieved a very reliable communication of all components throughout XC-3 mode on our Extrusion line. The response of the system at recipe downloading and processing data, are excellent and reliable. Using the system over WiFi, we avoid electrical noise from Ethernet cables. This will work for either serial or Ethernet topologies. Generally this has been used with SCADA systems such as WonderWare or Siemens HMI front ends. More information regarding the Kepware OPC driver can be found here:Click Here Dimitris Kotsopoulos Mechanical Engineer Owner of M.P. Extruders Sweepers G2 Software OPC was designed to provide a common bridge for Windows based software applications and process control hardware. Standards define consistent methods of accessing field data from plant floor devices. This method remains the same regardless of the type and source of data. An OPC Server for one hardware device provides the same methods for an OPC Client to access its data as any and every other OPC Server for that same and any other hardware device. i contact us FEB 2014 It is now possible to make a totally Ethernet based G2 network when using WSB 12-12 (Blue display), LIW or Touch Screen controllers which have Ethernet ports as standard. When doing so, the new G2-SK-E should be used, this plugs into a USB port on the G2 Server PC and does not require a separate power supply. If there is an older blender in the system which is still using the 6811 (Red display) controller, then a G2-ES-12 adaptor should be used to convert the serial output to Ethernet. 02 m a g u i r e e u r o p e t e c h n i c a l b u lle t i n · iss u e 0 2 · F E B RUARY 2 0 1 4 7 Contact Us Technical Bulletin Contents Gravimetric Blending LineMaster Extrusion Control Gravimetric Feeders Materials Drying Materials conveying Sweepers G2 Software contact us FEB 2014 02 Maguire USA Maguire Europe Maguire Asia Maguire Canada 11 Crozerville Road Aston, PA 19014 Toll free: 888-459-2412 Tel: 610-459-4300 Fax: 610-459-2700 Email: [email protected] www.maguire.com Tame Park, Tamworth, Staffordshire B77 5DY, UK Tel: +44 1827 265 850 Fax: +44 1827 265 855 Email: [email protected] www.maguire.com 15 Changi North Street 1 #01-15, I-Lofts Singapore, 498765 Tel: (+65) 6848-7117 Fax: (+65) 6542-8577 Email: [email protected] www.maguire.com 299 Basaltic Road, Unit 1 Vaughan, Ontario, L4K 4W8 Toll free: 866-441-8409 Tel: 905-879-1100 Fax: 905-879-1101 Email: [email protected] www.maguirecanada.com 5-Year Warranty Maguire Products offers one of the most comprehensive warranties in the plastics industry.
