Alexandria - 318.445.9006 |Pineville - 318.487.1000 | www.louisianaathleticclub.com Managers Memo: The New Year is already here!! The Louisiana Athletic Club would like to say thank you to all of our members for allowing us to serve you and your families. We consider it an honor that you chose our club to meet your exercise needs. It is an exciting time of the year, a chance to make a New Year’s resolution and stick to it. Tradition dictates that every 365 days, you should try to kick bad habits and start your life anew. So let’s reflect and see what kind of New Year’s resolution you will make for yourself this January first. If you choose an exercise resolution here are some tips to help you make them successful. 1. Chose the right resolution Failure is assured at the offset if it’s not made with serious intent and commitment. Do what you like. There is an acronym we use in exercise, FITTE, which stands for frequency, intensity, time, type, and enjoyment. I believe that ‘E’ is often the most important. Upcoming Events ~ 2. Formulate achievable goals Most New Year’s Resolutions fail because we make them out of temporary motivations but never set a plan to help us through when our motivations drop. Instead of formulating your ultimate goal, break it down into achievable milestones. Goals can always shift as you work towards them. 3. Share your goals with friends Having friends to help hold you accountable is key to reaching your milestones. You never know who will inspire you in this process and you might even inspire others. 4. Aim for things that are truly important to you Don’t set goals that your friends want you to set. Always aim for things that are important in your life. 5. Make sure your New Year’s Resolution is to make progress, not reach perfection. Always remember that 30 days makes a habit. Happy New Year from Louisiana Athletic Club! 2016 will be a GREAT year! We are sure that a lot of you are getting geared up for fitness. We are so excited to be able to assist you in your ongoing fitness journeys and look forward to hearing about your successes. Build on your progress each week! 2. Motivate with music! Wear headphones when exercising to get you moving. 3. Organize "fitness fun-days" in your neighborhood. Walking or playing sports with neighbors will get you active and strengthen community ties. 4. To maximize your hard work at the gym, hire a personal trainer to help you get started. The money you spend will pay itself back in good health. 5. Recruit a friend as a workout buddy. You're more likely to keep up an exercise program if you have support! 6. Exercise at home! Designate a room and establish a training time that you can stick to. 7. Subscribe to a health and fitness magazine. Always look out for new ideas that will help you stick to your fitness program. 8. Purchase a stability exercise ball for quick and easy workouts at home. 9. When walking on a treadmill try walking at a slight incline for a more intense workout. 10. Squeezing a tennis or racquetball will help to strengthen the muscles in your hands and arms. 11. Wear a pedometer and track your total mileage in a day. Challenge yourself to become more active each week. 12. Make your breaks at work count. Take a walk or simply get up and do some simple stretches. 13. Find a way to make walking a part of your daily commute. 14. If you travel a lot, have your health club professional design a travel exercise plan for you. Stick to it! 15. Volunteer to coach a youth team. You'll be helping your community, and you'll get some exercise yourself at practices. 16. Mow your own lawn. Skip the tractor and use a hand-pushed mower instead. 17. Wash your car by hand. Even scrubbing burns calories! 18. Exercise at the mall! Walk laps with a friend and get a great cardio workout while window shopping. 19. Take a swing or ballroom dance class. It's fun, social and great exercise! 20. Take a hike! Or if you're feeling more adventurous, try mountain climbing. Both are great for your body and the views are spectacular. 21. When playing golf, walk and carry your clubs or use a pull cart. Never pass up a long walk! 22. Paddle for health! Canoes and kayaks can be great exercise and allow you to explore places not reachable by powerboats. 23. Cycling provides excellent aerobic exercise without the pressure on your knees associated with running. Do some exploring in your neighborhood!
