FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE WARNINGS MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. WARNING This spreader is designed and manufactured solely for the purpose of applying granular or powdered fertilisers. Under no circumstances may it be used for any other purposes. WARNING Before using this spreader all operators and users must have read and understood the contents of this manual and any other manual supplied with the spreader or associated equipment. WARNING Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s specified safe load and carrying capacity. WARNING Exercise extreme care when operating in hilly or uneven terrain to ensure proper stability. Reduce speed and allow greater distance for breaking. Refer also to the vehicle manufacturer’s operating and safety instructions WARNING Refer to the fertiliser manufacturer’s label for correct use and safe handling instructions before use. WARNING Never allow inadequately trained personnel to attach or operate this spreader. WARNING Before carrying out maintenance work, wash the spreader thoroughly to remove any toxic chemicals that may contaminate the spreader. WARNING This spreader may throw fertiliser granules up to 20 metres. Keep bystanders well clear. SAFETY DECAL LOCATION Part Number DEC 12 DEC 48 The above “Safety” decals should be fitted to the machine at all times in the locations shown in the diagram. If the decal is missing or unreadable it should be replaced by ordering a new decal from your Silvan dealer by the part number shown. PAGE 2 Specifications GENERAL This spreader has been designed and manufactured solely for use on four wheel ATV motorbikes or utility tray tops, for the application of broadcasting granular or powdered fertilisers. It may also be used for broadcasting seed or other granular substances. STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS HOPPER : 60 Litre UV stable polyethylene. CONTROLS: On/Off power switch to motor. Metering Disc, controls discharge rate from hopper. Gate lever, switches flow from hopper on and off. MOTOR 12 Volt DC, 3 Amp SPREAD 14m Maximum Throw DIMENSIONS: Height: 750 mm. Width: 690 mm Length: 995 mm (max). 875 mm (min). Including Mounting Frame Dry Weight: 18kg Installation DO NOT EXCEED THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER’S SPECIFIED SAFE LOAD AND CARRYING CAPACITY. FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Before fitting the spreader to any ATV or other vehicle, refer to vehicle manufacturers instructions for appropriate load limits and fitting positions. Referring to the diagram on the following page attach the Super Pak to the rear carry rack of the ATV using the adjustable arms and brackets. Slide the Super Pak onto the rear carry rack, engaging the rear clamps under the rear bar of the rack. Slide the adjustable inner rails back until the front clamps engage under the front bar of the rack. Engage the latch hook bolt into one of the slots in the inner rail and tension the latch. Finally tighten the clamp nuts until the clamps are pulled up firmly under the bars of the rack. NOTE; The threaded hook bolts can be wound in or out to adjust the tension on the latches. The latches should be adjusted so that they clamp down firmly without being over tight Over tensioning the latches may cause damage to the latches or inner rail slots. PAGE 3 Installation Cont’d CONNECTING TO 12 VOLT DC SUPPLY The spreader requires a 12 volt DC power source. A 3 metre loom is provided with the spreader to allow it to be connected to the 12 volt DC source available. The red wire is positive and the black is negative. A 2 pin weather tight connector is provided to connect the wiring loom to the motor. WARNING When connecting the loom ensure it is secured so as not to entagle in the spinner plate. An on/off switch is fitted to the spreader to allow the motor to be switched off from the 12 volt DC battery. This will prevent accidental motor operation or battery drainage. An 10 Amp fuse is installed in the control box to prevent any potential damage to the electrical system of the vehicle. Consult your vehicle’s instruction manual for correct electrical connection. Never fill the hopper to a capacity beyond the specified overall weight limits set by your vehicle manufacturer. To calculate the maximum volume the spreader can safely be filled to, add the dry weight of the spreader (18 kg) together with any other equipment fitted to the vehicle such as tools, spray tanks etc and subtract this weight from the permissible vehicle load. E.g. PAGE 4 Dry Weight of spreader = 18 kg. Permissible load of ATV carrier rack = 70 kg (As specified by vehicle manufacturer) Weight of other equipment = 10kg Maximun Hopper Volume = Permissible Load –Spreader Dry Weight – Weight of Other Equipment = 70 –18– 10 = 42.0 Kg . Operation OPERATION The spinner is operated by the electric switch on the control box. The spinner should be on before the fertilizer is allowed to flow Set the the feed rate according to the calibration chart using the metering plate shown below. METERING DISC The fertilizer flow can then be turned on and off using the on / off lever ON OFF LEVER CAUTION ! Keep fingers clear of metering disc, they may become trapped in metering hole. WARNING Never attempt to load the hopper whilst the spinner is operating. PAGE 5 Calibration CALIBRATION Actual broadcasting rates will vary widely depending on product being spread, ground speed, terrain, weather etc. The following tables and information should be used as a guide only. Actual spreading rates and spreading widths should be checked manually by calibration. Below is a table of approximate spreading rates for the most common fertilisers at 10km/hr travel speed. Material Rate (Kg/ha) Index Setting Urea Urea Urea 18 35 45 4 5 6 Nominal Spread (Metres) 14 14 14 24 46 60 4 5 6 14 14 14 Super Phosphate Super Phosphate Super Phosphate To calculate spreading rates for other materials or settings use the follow formula: Feed Rate kg/min = Application Rate kg/ha x Travel Speed km/hr x Spreading Width 600 Example: Given the following Application Rate = Quantity of fertilizer (kg) to be applied per hectare (ha) Travel Speed = Vehicle travel speed (km/hr) Spreading Width = Width of throw of the fertilizer Feed Rate kg/ha = 50 x 10 x 12 600 =50 kg/ha =10 km/hr = 12m = 10 kg/min To determine or set the required Feed Rate carry out the following procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. Load a measured weight of product into the hopper.(5-10 Kg should be sufficient). Set the hopper shutter control to an appropriate setting. Lower settings should be used for fine products and higher settings for coarse products. Switch the spinner motor on, open the control lever fully and move off at a measured speed, (10kmh is a good starting point). Record the time taken for the hopper to empty. The feed rate is equal to the weight of fertilizer used divided by the time in minutes to empty the hopper. Example: If 7 kg of fertilizer was used in 1 ½ Mins Feed Rate (kg/min) = Ferilizer Used (kg) = 7 = 4.7 kg/min Time (min) 1.5 Repeat the procedure until the correct Feed Rate is obtained. The effective spread width should also be confirmed during the test. This will be wider for heavy coarse products, and narrower for light fine products. PAGE 6 Maintenance Dispose of unused fertiliser and water used for rinsing in a manner that will not endanger people animals or the environment. After use remove unused fertilizer and brush out hopper and spinner. Water can now be used to rinse of the hopper, however do not use high pressure water near the electric motor. Store the unit in a dry place.
