Before You Start These optional assembly instructions contain only information required to replace the electric clutch on an Accu-Z. A detailed Operator’s Manual was supplied with the Accu-Z. Refer to Operator’s Manual for additional specific information especially information relating to safety concerns. Also included in the Operator’s Manual is important information on operation, adjustment, troubleshooting and maintenance for this attachment (some manual sections do not apply to all options). A separate Parts Manual for replacement parts may be purchased from your dealer or available free of charge at www.landpride.com. Have model and serial numbers handy when placing an order.

General Information Assembly instructions for this kit apply to Accu-Z Electric Clutch Kit No. 356-550A. Accu-Z mowers have been produced with two different clutches. Parts included in this kit will fit all Accu-Z mowers with serial no’s. 37160 and below, and 371713 to 381838. Starting on page 5 is a detailed listing of parts included in this kit. Use this list as a checklist to inventory parts received.

Disconnect deck belt idler chain from its chain mount to release belt tension.

Initial Preparations

WARNING!
This procedure requires the mower to be raised and blocked up off the ground. Use only appropriate vehicle stands in pairs with a minimum weight rating of 2,000 pounds. Follow all instructions supplied with the stands.
NOTE: Use of any attachments that are not approved by Land Pride Equipment may void warranty of the electric clutch.

Refer to Figure 1 1. Park mower on a flat surface, set control levers in park brake position, turn ignition switch off and remove ignition key. 2.
Disconnect negative battery cable.
3.
Raise deck to its highest position.
4.
Raise rear of mower and block with certified jack stands.

Assembly Instructions Refer to Figure 3 7. Remove deck drive belt from electric clutch pulley located at rear of mower. Do not remove it from deck spindle pulleys located at front of deck.
Refer to Figure 5 9. Remove clutch mounting bracket bolt and rotate electric clutch until bracket pin will slide out of rubber grommet holding bracket pin in place. Bracket Pin

WARNING!
Use extreme caution when inserting a screwdriver into engine flywheel to prevent tooth damage.
WARNING!
Make certain negative battery cable is disconnected from battery before proceeding.
Refer to Figure 6 and Figure 7 10. See warning above. Insert a screwdriver securely into the flywheel teeth at the engine rear end under its cowling.
IMPORTANT: Locate where and how the clutch wiring harness is routed. Make a note of its location before removing it from the mower. as it will be re-installed. Refer to Figure 4 8. See important note above. Unplug mower wiring harness from clutch wiring harness and remove it from mower frame.

Assembly Instructions Refer to Figure 8 11. Firmly hold screwdriver against flywheel teeth to prevent crankshaft from turning while removing electric clutch mounting bolt below.
14. Attach clutch anchor angle to mounting tab on mower frame mounting tab as shown in figures 10, 11 and 12.
12. Remove screwdriver from flywheel teeth. Remove electric clutch from engine shaft. Mounting Hardware through one mounting hole

Figure 8 Refer to Figure 9 13. Two rubber bumpers are supplied with installation kit. Remove paper backing from one and attache it to one side of clutch anchor angle as shown. Remove paper backing from the other rubber bumper and attach it to the other side of clutch anchor angle as shown.

NOTE: There are two different versions of the mounting tab located under the mower frame near the engine shaft. The original version has one mounting hole and the current version has two mounting holes. See figures 10 and 11 to determine which mounting tab your mower has. IMPORTANT: Clutch anchor angle must be attached to back side of mounting tab (side away from clutch) as shown in the figures 10 and 11. 8/07/06 ■

Assembly Instructions Refer to Figure 13 15. Coat engine shaft with NEVER SEEZ and slide electric clutch onto engine shaft. Apply Loctite 242 to clutch mounting bolt threads. Place flat washer on clutch mounting bolt and screw bolt into end of engine crankshaft.

16. Place 1 3/8" thin wrench on clutch mounting flats and hold to prevent crankshaft from turning while applying 45-48 ft. lbs. of torque to clutch mounting bolt. Insert a screwdriver into flywheel teeth as outlined in step 9 on page 2 to hold crankshaft from turning if a thin wrench is not available.

Figure 15 Electric Clutch Refer to Figure 16 18. Re-route deck drive belt around clutch pulley, spindle pulleys and stationary idler pulleys. Make certain belt is routed properly.

Figure 13 Refer to Figure 14 & Figure 15 17. Thread new wiring harness pigtail (Part No. 839-236C) through rubber grommet as shown. Rout new harness by following original clutch harness routing. Plug new wiring harness into mower wiring harness.

Assembly Instructions Refer to Figure 17 9. Re-tension deck drive belt by pulling on idler chain and hooking it into its chain joint. Deck idler spring should be extended to 9" +/- 3/8" when tensioned properly with approximately 5/8" adjustment per chain link. 10. Lower floor pan. 11. Raise mower rear and remove jack stands. Lower mower. 12. Re-connect negative battery cable.
NOTE: Air gap on Warner clutches is non-adjustable and does not require burnishing.
