Setting Up Your Turntable

Step 1: Assembling Your Turntable 1. Rotate the turntable to the drive motor spindle.

2. Remove the tape and ribbon from the belt, and stretch the belt around the drive motor spindle. Do not twist the belt. 3. Slowly rotate the turntable six or seven times, then check the belt. If it is not secure, reposition it and repeat. If the belt slips under the platter, do not attempt to remove the platter. Take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. 4. Set the LINE OUT/PHONO OUT switch. If you are uncertain which output your connecting device requires, refer to its user’s guide. 5. Place the rubber mat, ridges down, on the platter.
PHONO OUT For low-level phono output. LINE OUT For line-level output.
Step 2: Connecting Your Turntable Before connecting your turntable to an audio device, turn off the device. 1. Plug the turntable’s white and red plugs into the device’s matching audio jacks.

2. Connect the turntable’s ground wire to the device’s GND or earth terminal. 3. Plug the turntable’s power cord into a standard AC outlet. Caution: To prevent electric shock, the plug’s blades are polarized and ÀWRQO\RQHZD\,IWKHSOXJGRHVQRWÀWHDVLO\WXUQLWRYHUDQGWU\DJDLQ Do not power the turntable until you complete all other connections. NOTE: The LIN (lead in), RET (auto return), and SW (tone arm switch) screws on the turntable’s base are set at the factory and should not be adjusted.

Using Your Turntable 2. Press SPEED in or out to set the turntable’s speed (33 1/3 or 45 RPM). 3. Set the record radius switch on top of the turntable to 6” or 12” based on the record size. 4. Remove the stylus cover and press PLAY. The tone arm automatically moves to the beginning of the record and starts to play. When the record ends, the tone arm automatically returns to its resting position. 5. To stop playing the record sooner, or if the tone arm does not automatically return when it reaches the end of the record, press STOP.
Manually Cueing the Arm 2. Move the tone arm to a spot directly over the desired part of the record. The turntable starts to rotate. 3. Press CUE again. The tone arm slowly lowers and the record plays.

1. Open the dust cover and place the record on the turntable. To play a 45 RPM record, place the 45 RPM adapter over the center spindle.

Cleaning/Replacing the Stylus
If your turntable is not working as it should, these suggestions might help you solve the problem. If the turntable still does not operate properly, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance.
A dirty or worn stylus causes rough, distorted sound and could damage your records.
To locate your nearest RadioShack, use the store locator feature on RadioShack’s website (www.radioshack.com), or call 1-800-The Shack (843-7422) and follow the menu options. What can I do if the sound from the turntable is unclear or scratchy? Clean the record.
Caution: Do not touch the stylus while cleaning or installing it. If the stylus gets dirty or dusty, use a soft brush to gently clean it. You can order a replacement stylus assembly AT3600LAX through your local RadioShack store. To replace the stylus: 7XUQRII\RXUUHFHLYHUDPSOLÀHU 2. Gently grasp the stylus assembly’s sides and pull. 3. Gently snap the new stylus assembly into place.
Gently clean or replace the stylus. Check if the turntable is set to LINE OUT but connected to low-level phono input jacks. If so, set the turntable to PHONO OUT.

Keep the turntable dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
Why doesn’t my turntable spin?
To protect the stylus from damage, replace the stylus cover when not using the turntable.
Check the power cord and the AC outlet for a power problem.
Handle the turntable gently and carefully. Don’t drop it.
Lift the rubber matt on the platter and check the rubber drive belt. It may have slipped or broken.
Keep the turntable away from dust and dirt. Wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
What can I do if I don’t hear any sound?
NOTE: Modifying or tampering with the turntable’s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it.

Do not place the turntable on top of components that get hot. Use and store the turntable only in normal temperature environments.
Check if the turntable is set to PHONO OUT but connected to linelevel input jacks. Set the turntable to LINE OUT. Replace the stylus.
CAUTION
Why do I hear a hum from the turntable? The stylus may be improperly installed. Check the stylus and reinstall it if necessary. The turntable is picking up induction hum from other components. Check the ground terminal and reposition the turntable away from other components.

The turntable may be set to LINE OUT and the turntable is connected to low-level phono input jacks. Set the turntable to PHONO OUT. Why do I hear feedback from my turntable? The turntable is picking up the sound pressure of vibrations from the speakers. Reposition the turntable away from the speakers.
