CYCLE /LEVEL Master’s degree QF for EHEA: 2nd cycle EQF for LLL: level 7 NLQF: level 7 LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION Dutch MODE OF STUDY Part-time A PURPOSE The purpose of the Master Rehabilitation Counselor is to provide students with the chance to develop into experts in the Individual Rehabilitation Approach (IRB in Dutch). Students will specialize in applying, implementing and developing psychosocial rehabilitation to clients with chronic disabilities. B CHARACTERISTICS 1 DISCIPLINE(S) / SUBJECT AREA(S) The main subject is integrated evidence-based theory and practice of rehabilitation. 2 GENERAL / SPECIALIST FOCUS Counselling using knowledge and expertise from the field of Rehabilitation. 3 ORIENTATION This is an academic degree with a strong professional orientation leading to a professional who can implement, consult and develop rehabilitation approaches. 4 DISTINCTIVE FEATURES This programme was jointly developed with Rehab ’92, a national professional rehabilitation organisation. C EMPLOYABILITY & FURTHER EDUCATION 1 EMPLOYABILITY Graduates are allowed to work as counselor, practitioner researcher, project manager, senior staff officer, and trainer 1 in a private practice or a variety of organizations e.g. psychiatric (forensic) institutions, centres for the mentally or physically impaired, substance abuse centres, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, as well as educational institutions, and supported employment departments. 2 FURTHER STUDIES D EDUCATION STYLE 1 LEARNING & TEACHING APPROACHES The programme always connects a conceptual line of learning with a practical assignment, including skills and cognitive competences which are captured as data for analysis and assessment. 2 ASSESSMENT METHODS Portfolio with self-reflection; a professional and academic article of 3,000 words; group presentations; recording, reflecting on and analysing sessions with clients. E GRADUATE COMPETENCES 1 GENERIC Graduates have the ability to:  communicate both orally and through the written word in Dutch in a variety of roles, such as counselor and innovator in complex situations in multidisciplinary, multicultural and international contexts, both inside and outside of their own organisation;  take the initiative and to foster the spirit of innovation and intellectual curiosity in an unusual and emerging sector of social work/psychiatry;  generate innovative solutions and approaches;  apply knowledge in practical situations in relation to clients, practitioners and management. 2 SUBJECT SPECIFIC Graduates will be able to:  assess assessment of the needs and problems related to the rehabilitation practice at micro-, meso- and macro level;  plan, execute and evaluate rehabilitation interventions, based on the quality requirements, modifying the rehabilitation practice;  advise individual practitioners and/or organizations on rehabilitation issues based on research and/or assessment outcomes;  stimulate and devise mechanisms for involvement and support of individual practitioners and teams for advice and coaching activities, taking the existing rehabilitation needs, problems and developments into account;  initiate and propose solutions with regards to rehabilitation issues that occur in a new, unfamiliar environment, based on a proper analysis of (scientific data and (inter) national theoretical) material;  appraise and where necessary modify, the implementation of rehabilitation in an organization complex rehabilitation issues related to the knowledge and innovation needs of an organization;  reflect on and develop the professional rehabilitation roles, taking cultural and ethical aspects into account. F COMPLETE LIST OF PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES Successful graduates may continue for a doctoral study in a variety of disciplines. At the end of the programme graduates demonstrate that they have the ability to:  provide evidence-based psychosocial rehabilitation interventions to people with disabilities;  carry out assignments for organisations based on disciplinary expertise in relation to the developing, introducing and implementing of innovations such as new products, programmes for new target groups and new methods; 2        advise on improvements in quality and enhancement of professional practice on a national level; support organizations to implement rehabilitation programmes; support practitioners as individual and in teams in providing rehabilitation interventions; carry out practice-oriented/practice-based, research and apply it in an effective manner; develop and justify policy advice or proposals based on valid judgements derived from evaluations and/or from research results; develop professional knowledge, skills, attitudes and integrate personal achievements successfully in the organisation; systematically transfer personal expertise and vision to colleagues and other experts in the professional field.
