What’s new in this release? Matrox Mtx.utils 3.0 provides the following new features for MXO2 products: • Support for Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium software, including Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, Adobe Encoder CS5, and Adobe Encore CS5 (earlier versions of these programs are not supported). • You can now add many Matrox effects to your Adobe Premiere Pro sequences, including chroma key, luma key, and wipes. • On MXO2 systems that have MAX technology or a Matrox CompressHD card, new Matrox RT technology gives you full-resolution, full-frame-rate, multi-layer, realtime video editing in Premiere Pro. With Matrox RT technology, all the Matrox effects are realtime, and many Premiere Pro effects and transitions are accelerated for realtime playback, including Motion effects, dissolves, fades, and speed changes. • Up/down/cross conversion for video capture and output, and support for selecting analog component RGB or YUV output. • Matrox RS-422 device control for capturing clips and exporting your Matrox sequences to tape in Adobe Premiere Pro. • New 32-bit and 64-bit Matrox Video for Windows (VFW) codecs, including “+ Alpha” versions of the Matrox uncompressed and MPEG-2 I-frame codecs. • The Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins now support 32-bit and 64-bit applications. • When encoding using the Matrox MAX H.264 codec on MXO2 products with MAX technology, the following new features are provided: $

Note This release is not supported for use with Avid editing software. At present, you must use Mtx.utils version 2.2 if you want to use your MXO2 Mini or MXO2 Mini with MAX with Avid Media Composer or NewsCutter.
Installing this release ¡ Important If you have an earlier release of Matrox Mtx.utils installed with Adobe CS4 software, you must uninstall your Mtx.utils and Adobe CS4 software before installing Matrox Mtx.utils version 3.0.
Once you’ve removed any previous version of Matrox Mtx.utils and your Adobe CS4 software, install your Adobe CS5 software, and then install Matrox Mtx.utils version 3.0. You can download the Mtx.utils version 3.0 software from the Matrox MXO2 Support section of our website at www.matrox.com/video/support. If you want to set up Matrox wipes in your Adobe Premiere Pro sequences, make sure that you also install the Matrox effect patterns, which are available for download with the Matrox Mtx.utils software for MXO2 products.
Known issues Please be aware of the following issues when using Matrox MXO2 products with Matrox Mtx.utils version 3.0:
Installation and general operation • When installing Matrox Mtx.utils on a Windows 7 system, you may receive a message that some device drivers have not been installed successfully. You can ignore this message, as the device drivers will be successfully installed once the Mtx.utils installation is complete. (Ref# 52208) • If you installed Matrox Mtx.utils without your Matrox MXO2 hardware connected to your computer, you may experience problems trying to use your MXO2 system when you connect your MXO2 hardware for the first time. If this happens, restart your system. (Ref# 51673) • Matrox NTSC and 480p uncompressed 8-bit and 10-bit .avi files created using software included with this Mtx.utils release are not supported on a Matrox Axio or RT.X2 system. (Ref# 50404) • On a Windows Vista system, Matrox uncompressed clips (8- or 10-bit) may not play back in Windows Media Player. (Ref# 43314) • Adobe Photoshop CS5 does not support Matrox .avi files. (Ref# 51248) Installing this release

• When using the HDMI output from an Xbox as your input source with MXO2 hardware, the audio output from MXO2 may be distorted. To correct the audio distortion, switch the video output setting of your Xbox to 480p, and then back to your original HD output setting, such as 1080i. In order to see your Xbox video display while making your setting changes, you may need to connect the HDMI output from your Xbox to an HDMI monitor or other HDMI display device. After doing this, remember to reconnect the HDMI output to MXO2. (Ref# 54132)
Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox MXO2 • If you set the playback or paused resolution in the Program Monitor to anything other than full resolution, the video output may become jittery. If this happens, set the playback/paused resolution to full. (Ref# 54129) • To avoid problems when capturing clips, rendering previews, or exporting your sequence to disk, make sure that the total length of your Premiere Pro project’s folder path name and file name is not longer than 128 characters. (Ref# 49841). • If you change the name of a clip in the Save Captured Clip dialog box, the name of the captured Matrox .avi file will be changed accordingly, but you’ll have to manually rename the associated .wav files. (Ref# 50317) • If you choose to capture a video source for which a video input signal is not detected from your Matrox MXO2 hardware, the input signal may display as blue video (instead of black video). (Ref# 50156) • The first time you capture a Matrox .avi file using Adobe Premiere Pro after installing Matrox Mtx.utils, you need to configure your Matrox .avi capture settings. To do this, choose Project > Project Settings > General. From the Capture Format list, select Matrox AVI and click Configure. (Ref# 50243) • Adding a voice-over to your Matrox sequence using MXO2 is not supported for this release. (Ref# 50878) • When you export an NTSC or PAL clip using the Matrox DV/DVCAM Video for Windows codec, your clip may appear darker after the export. As a workaround, use Adobe Premiere Pro’s DV NTSC or DV PAL codec to export your NTSC or PAL clips to DV format. (Ref# 50460) • To work with PAL DV clips on Matrox MXO2, you must select a Matrox DV-PAL sequence preset. This sequence is for working with PAL DV clips only (Matrox DV clips as well as Adobe native DV clips). To use Matrox PAL DV clips that you created on a Matrox Axio or RT.X2 system in your Matrox sequence on MXO2, you must import them into a Matrox DV-PAL sequence, and use the Interpret Footage command to change their field order to Lower Field First. (Ref# 50246) Known issues
4
• When working in a Matrox DV-PAL sequence, don’t capture clips to Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame or uncompressed format. A Matrox DV-PAL sequence is for working with PAL DV clips only. If you want to capture PAL clips to Matrox MPEG-2 or uncompressed format, you must use a Matrox PAL sequence. (Ref# 54240) • When you export a Matrox PAL sequence to MPEG-2 format for DVD using Adobe Media Encoder, set the Field Order to Upper under Basic Video Settings in the Export Settings dialog box. Otherwise, your export may be blurry. (Ref# 51007)
Matrox A/V Tools • If you are running multiple instances of Matrox A/V Tools, the main analog video output specified in the active A/V Tools session will be used as the main analog video output of the other instances of A/V Tools that are running. For example, if you open a session of A/V Tools and select Composite from the Output Type list under Analog Output (Main), all other open instances of A/V Tools will automatically output a composite signal. (Ref# 50865)
Matrox WYSIWYG plug-ins • Adobe Photoshop may crash if you export a clip that has an alpha channel with CMYK 16-bit color to the Matrox WYSIWYG preview. (Ref# 44661)
Matrox MAX H.264 encoding (MAX option) • When you export an Adobe Premiere Pro sequence to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, extra frames of black video may be added at the end of your exported file. (Ref# 54399) • When exporting an Adobe Premiere Pro sequence that contains Matrox wipes to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, you must use Adobe Media Encoder to export the sequence instead of performing a direct export from Adobe Premiere Pro. This issue, however, does not apply if your system has a Matrox CompressHD card. (Ref# 54403) • If you scale your source video when exporting to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, the output frame size on the Source tab and the video preview and output frame size on the Output tab of the Export Settings dialog box may not be updated correctly. This issue, however, does not affect your exported file. (Ref# 51511) • To avoid problems with playing back Matrox .mp4 files on Apple devices, make sure that you have the latest software update available for your device from Apple. (Ref# 51631) • When you export an Adobe Premiere Pro sequence that has chapter markers to a Matrox MAX H.264 file, the chapter markers are not exported and Known issues

therefore won’t be available when you import your exported file to Adobe Encore. (Ref# 51780) • You may notice a slight color shift between your original source video and your exported Matrox MAX H.264 files when you import and play them back from your Adobe Premiere Pro sequence. However, the correct color space conversion has been applied to your Matrox MAX H.264 files, and they will have the correct color when played back on a Blu-ray Disc player or mobile device, such as an Apple iPod or iPhone. (Ref# 51465) • When you import Matrox files into Adobe Encore for Blu-ray Disc authoring (either Matrox .264 files or Matrox .avi files that you want to transcode to Matrox H.264 format), the field type of the files may be reported incorrectly by Encore, and the preview on your video monitor may show inverted fields when you preview using the Matrox Player. However, the video will be correct on your final Blu-ray Disc. (Ref# 53719) • If you want to transcode directly to Matrox H.264 format for Blu-ray Disc authoring in Adobe Encore, make sure you don’t enable the transcoding of assets using Adobe Media Encoder. To check your settings in Encore, choose Edit > Preferences > General , and make sure that the option to transcode assets using Adobe Media Encoder is not selected (this option is disabled by default). (Ref# 53710) • When transcoding directly to Matrox H.264 format for Blu-ray Disc authoring in Adobe Encore, you must set the audio Output Channels to Stereo, and the Sample Size to 16-bit. (Ref# 54267) • If you want to transcode directly to Matrox H.264 format for Blu-ray Disc authoring in Adobe Encore, you must use the Transcode Now command to transcode your assets. Otherwise, when you choose to burn your project to disc, your project’s audio won’t be transcoded. (Ref# 54352)
