Maxdata Modular System FAQ This document places a collection of frequently asked questions and answers at your disposal. 1. Opening a Remote KVM connection After accessing "Remote KVM & CD" from the actions menu for a server module and confirming the settings for the remote session in the pop-up window "Remote KVM & CD" (Apply) a popup window "Open KvmViewer_1.57-2.jnlp” is shown. After a confirmation, a security warning is shown (Java has detected application components, that may pose a security risk). Answer the question "Prohibit execution of potentially insecure components?" with [No]. If answering [Yes], an "application error" is shown (application could not be started). It is necessary then to select "Terminate KVM Session" from the Actions Menu, before a new Remote KVM connection can be initiated for this server. If too much time elapses before answering [No], the Java window "KVM Session to Server xyz" opens with an authentication pop-up (Invalid Session token. authentication failure.) Confirming the error message will close the Java KVM window and again a new Remote KVM connection can be initiated only after executing "Terminate KVM Session" in the actions menu. 2. Creating storage pools using IE8 You may not be able to select hard drives to create a storage pool when using Internet Explorer 8 to manage a Modular System. To work around this issue adjust the settings for IE8:         Select Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites: Add https:// Click on Custom Level. Active-X controls and Plug-ins > Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt > Enable. Downloads > Automatic prompting for file downloads > Enable. Click OK to save these settings. Select Tools > Compatibility View (or Select the Compatibility View button located to right of the address bar). Restart Internet Explorer and log in to the remote management console. You should now be able to use all controls. 3. Raid 10 is converted to Raid 1E during expansion When a four-drive Raid 10 storage pool is expanded, all virtual drives that were created at Raid level 10 within the storage pool will automatically migrate to Raid 1E, even if the number of drives added would create a storage pool configuration capable of supporting Raid level 10. New virtual drives can be created in the storage pool as Raid 10, if the drive configuration of the storage pool supports Raid 10 . This is by design. Raid 1E is similar to Raid 10, and the performance is equal. There should be no other consequences from this migration. 4. E-Mail alerting fails When using Microsoft Exchange, reception of mails sent from "Anonymous users" needs to be allowed. (Microsoft Exchange | Server Configuration | Hub Transport | Permission Groups) 1 5. Dual Gbit Ethernet Expansion Module has no connection to Switch 1 The ethernet ports on the dual Gbit expansion card (mezzanine) of a server module (Compute Module) are connected directly to the second ethernet switch within the chassis. Without installed second switch these ports don’t have a connection to the exterior. If the chassis is equipped with a second ethernet switch module, then there is a connection between the ports on the Gbit expansion card and the ports of switch 1 only when the internal XAUI connection between the switches is set to the same VLAN ID as the expansion ports of the server module. Per default all VLAN IDs are set to „1“, and therefore there is a connection. (The internal XAUI connection between the switches is visible in the Advanced Configuration as Interface 23, 10G.XC) 2
