Safety Notes
The unit corresponds to the directive of electromagnetic compatibility 89/336/CEE. ● The unit is only designed for indoor use. Protect it against humidity and heat (admissible ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C). ● For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means water or chemicals. ● If the unit is used for purposes other than originally intended, if it is not connected correctly or not repaired in an expert way, no liability can be assumed for possible damage. ● If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively, it must be disposed of in a local recycling plant. ● The MDQT-2 is supplied together with a power supply unit. This corresponds to the directive for electromagnetic compatibility 89/336/CEE and the low voltage directive 73/23/CEE. Attention! The power supply unit uses lethal mains voltage (230 V~). In order to prevent a shock hazard, do not open it. Leave servicing to authorized, skilled personnel only. Furthermore, any guarantee claim expires if the power supply unit has been opened.

Power Supply
The power supply is made with four batteries. The MDQT-2 can alternatively be operated via the supplied plug-in power supply unit as well.
4.1 Battery operation 1) For inserting or replacing the batteries, release the two screws of the front or rear side, and take off the front or rear plate. 2) Draw the cover plate out of the guide rail. The battery support is now accessible. 3) Insert four alkaline batteries of AA size as printed in the battery support. 4) Reassamble the unit in reverse order. Note: When using NiCd or NiMH rechargeable batteries instead of batteries not to be recharged, the correct functioning may be impaired due to the lower voltage (depending on the keyboard used). ●
Exhausted batteries or defective rechargeable batteries must not be put into the domestic rubbish but only be disposed of as special waste (e. g. collective container at your retailer).

Applications
The MDQT (mini disc quick type) is an extended infrared remote control for SONY® minidisc recorders. It serves for quick and comfortable input of disc and track titles via a commercial PC keyboard (AT or PS/2). The MDQT can be used in combination with all SONY® minidisc recorders suitable for infrared remote control of the professional and consumer series as from model MDS-JE500. The title input via the MDQT is not possible in case of the following preceding models: DHC-MD1 MDS-501 MDS-S1 MDS-101 MDS-503 MDS-S30 MDS-102 MDS-JA3ES MDS-S35 MDS-302 MDS-M1 PMC-M2 MDS-303 MDS-MX1 ZS-M1 In addition to the title input, special track edit functions as well as numerous control functions are possible. The connection to the minidisc recorder is made via an infrared signal. The MDQT-2 additionally has a CONTROL S output for cable-connected transmission in connection with the SONY® minidisc recorders of the professional series.
In case of alternative power supply of the MDQT-2 via the supplied power supply unit, the inserted batteries or rechargeable batteries are switched off. 1) Set the sliding switch at the power supply unit to position 7.5 (output voltage 7.5 V). 2) Plug the supplied connection cable into the jack POLUNG of the power supply unit so that the “+” symbol at the polarity-reversing plug points to the “+” symbol of the jack. 3) The power supply unit has a cross-shaped, 4-way plug. Connect the matching plug to the low voltage jack (5) of the MDQT-2. Caution! Do not short-circuit the push-button contacts hanging on the 4-way plug. The power supply unit may be damaged. 4) Connect the power supply unit to a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz). If not used for a longer time, disconnect the power supply unit again as it has a low current consumption even if the remote control is switched off.

Connecting of Keyboard and MD Recorder
1) Connect the PC keyboard (AT or PS/2) to the corresponding jack (4 or 3). 2) Place the MDQT so that the infrared transmitting diode (6) is directed towards the infrared receiver of the minidisc recorder. The radiation angle of the infrared signal is approx. 60°. ®

5.1 Jack CTRL S (MDQT-2 only) If several MD recorders are in operation or a perfect infrared transmission is not possible, the MDQT-2 can also directly be connected to a SONY® minidisc recorder of the professional series. For this purpose connect the jack CTRL S (7) via the supplied cable to the CONTROL-S input of the MD recorder. Now the MDQT-2 does not transmit any infrared signal.

Operation
The configuration of the functions and characters of the PC keyboard can be taken from fig. 3 on the rear side. The functions of the MD units have been extended and permanently further been developed for the follow-on units during the last years. Thus, it may be possible that not all control functions provided on the keyboard can be performed with every unit. For more information on the functions available as well as details on title input and edit functions, please read the operating instructions of the respective MD recorder.
6.1 Switching on and off For switching on, keep the momentary push-button POWER ON (2) pressed until the operating indication (1) blinks. For switching off, press the minus key on the upper right of the numerical block on the keyboard together with the shift key (also see fig. 3). To save the batteries, the remote control switches off automatically if no keyboard input is made for approx. 5 minutes. The automatic switching-off function can be deactivated via the minus key on the upper right of the numerical block together with the ALT key until the next manual switching-off.
6.2 Selection of an MD track 1) To select the tracks 1 to 10, press the keys of the numerical block (button “0” = track 10) or advance or reverse one title each with the cursor key or . 2) To select the tracks 11 to 20, keep the shift key pressed and press a key of the numerical block. 3) To select higher track numbers, first press the key “> 10” (key “+” in the numerical block), and with the keys of the numerical block enter the number with two digits, or with three digits after pressing the key “> 10” twice if there are more than 99 tracks on the inserted MD.
6.3 Input of disc or track titles 1) First press the enter key (corresponds to the key “NAME” on the SONY® remote control). 2) Enter the text via the alpha-numerical key area. The capital letters as well as the characters located on the upper part of the keys, as shown in fig. 3, are available together with the shift key . With pressed shift key as well as with activated locking
