The ME-5000 cobalt series DAQ boards of PCs apply modern FPGA technology to PC boards. This makes these DAQ boards flexible and open for your ideas. Many functions are supported in the standard firmware. Others functions can be added on demand. Choose the FPGA model for your own firmware designs.

The ME-5000 series boards offer a variety of innovative features not found in other boards: Isolated A/D, D/A, digital I/O and counters on a single PCI board. Other features include isolated channels with simultaneous sampling, analog and digital outputs with FIFOs and sophisticated analog and digital triggers. The ME-5000 boards are available in compact PCI (cPCI) and PCI Express (PCIe) formats.
Compact PCI and PCI Express versions All ME-5000 cobalt models are supplied with a standard firmware - the functions of the standard firmware are described on the product webpages or in the Meilhausweb-shop. Additional firmware choices will be available in the future and can be downloaded from the Meilhaus Electronic webpage or can be supplied as custom specific product. Operating modes include single readwrite, streaming or interrupt. Compatible hardware versions are available for PCI Express (PCIe) and for the 3U Compact PCI/PXI type boards. Add-on boards piggy-back on the main board and use a second slot on the rear panel for connections but do not use another PCIe or cPCI bus connection.
Cobalt Series Concept The ME-5000 cobalt series PC plug-in boards are based on a modern FPGA design using a common Xilinx FPGA. The board hardware defines the basic conditions, for example the number of I/O channels and the type of channels: Digital inputs/outputs, opto-isolated digital inputs/outputs, analog inputs/outputs etc. The FPGA firmware defines the further functionality of the channels. The channel functionality can also be variable in special FPGA firmware.

ME-5000 SPECIFICATIONS ME-526x and ME-528x DAQ Boards The ME-526x and ME-528x boards are fast, high-precision analog DAQ boards with 4 or 8 isolated, ± 10.4 V differential inputs. Every channel has an individual A/D converter with 500 V of isolation (no common GNDs). Two external digital triggers. Resolution is 16 or 18-bits. Each board has an 8-bit TTL port that can be used for bidirectional digital I/O with bit change detection with interrupt. Alternately use the digital port as a 4-channels of frequency measurement and 4-channels of frequency output. The boards can be expanded with add-on cards that provide extra isolated bidirectional digital channels. The -T option adds BNC connectors for standard 1 Mohm probes, the -E option expands the input range to 104 V with a Zin of 200 kohms. The -F option incorporates a filter for a bandwidth of 800 kHz and an SNR of 105 dB. Ideal for signal analysis. ME-526x boards have 16-bit A/D converters that satisfy most applications. ME-528x boards have 18-bit high-precision A/D converters with a SNR of 100 dB. They are the ideal solution for audio measurements, harmonic distortion, and FFT uses. Both boards are available with 4 or 8 differential channels and with sampling rates of 250 kS/s, 500 kS/s, 1 MS/s or 2 MS/s with 16-bit resolution and 1.6 MS/s with 18-bit resolution.
ME-5100 Digital Boards The ME-5100 is a fast digital I/O board with two 16-bit wide ports. Depending on the operating mode, I/O rates of up to 30 MHz per 16-bit port can be achieved. Because of the board’s DMA bus master architecture, the ME-5100 can transmit 32-bit wide data directly into the PC’s memory at a bandwidth of up to 25 MHz or download 32-bit wide words from the PC’s memory. Use the ME-5100’s two 16-bit ports as all one way or split them into 16-bit input and 16-bit output ports. All inputs can generate an interrupt on bit change or status-check. Four of the digital inputs can be used for frequency measurement at rates up to 5 MHz. Order with standard or user generated FPGA firmware. The ME-5100 is expandable with the addition of the ME-5001 or the ME-5004 Expansion Boards. The ME-5001 Expansion board adds 48 additional digital I/O signals. The ME-5004 Expansion board that adds 32 optically isolated digital IO channels.

ME-5810 Digital Boards The ME-5810 is a versatile opto-isolated digital-I/O board. It is also a replacement product for the well-known ME-8100 board. In addition to the ME-8100’s functions like software selectable source/sink and a bit pattern comparator, the ME5810 also offers many new and convenient extras from the ME-5000 series. The ME-5810 is fully compatible with the ME-8100 connector pin out and ME-iDS driver software. The ME-5810 features 16 or 32 isolated digital inputs and 16 or 32 isolated digital outputs, and 3 isolated 16 bit counters. Isolation is 1 kV per channel. Input levels are variable from 3-60 V and outputs are variable from 15 to 30 V. The digital inputs can be used to input data or generate interrupts on bit change or status check. The digital outputs can sink 50 ma and source 180 or 370 mA per channel with short circuit protection. ME-5810 channels can have various functions with in the firmware, for example single digital-I/O, streaming digital-I/ O, frequency measurement, and frequency output. Operating modes include: Simple read, bit pattern comparator (compare) with interrupt, bit change with interrupt. Board functionality may be changed by loading different firmware. ME-5810A boards have 16 optically isolated inputs and 16 optically isolated outputs and can be expanded with the addition of the ME-5001 or with the ME-5004 Expansion board.

ME-5000 SPECIFICATIONS The ME-5810B boards have 32 optically isolated inputs and 32 optically isolated outputs and include an ME-5004 Expansion Board. Option ‘S’ boards include the DMA streaming capability.
ME-5001 Expansion Boards The ME-5001 expands the ME-5100, ME-5200 and ME-5810A series boards with 48 additional I/O channels organized as six 8-bit ports. Eight channels can be used as frequency outputs at rates up to 5 MHz and 8 channels can be used for frequency inputs at rates up to 5 MHz. All inputs can generate an interrupt on bit change or status-check. Four of the ME-5001 ports have the ability to switch 3.3 or 5 Vdc signals and four ports have programmable signal terminators. Depending on optional FPGA firmware, the channels on the ME-5001 boards can have unique functionality.

ME-5004 Expansion Boards The ME-5004 expands the ME-5100, ME-5200 and ME-5810A series boards with 32 isolated digital I/O lines organized as 16 isolated digital inputs and 16 isolated digital outputs. Isolation is 1 kV. The digital inputs can be used to input data or generate interrupts on bit change of status check. The digital outputs can sink 50 ma and source 180 or 370 mA per channel with short circuit protection. Eight digital outputs can be uses to generate signals at rates up to 3 kHz. Eight of the input can measure frequencies at rates up to 300 kHz. Depending on optional FPGA firmware, the channels of the ME-5004 boards can have user specified functionality.
ME-5001 Expansion Board
Software Support Software includes drivers for Windows 98, Me, NT, 2K and XP. Driver supports Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi and Borland C/C++. Drivers are also included for Agilent VEE, and National LabVIEW. Linux support includes Open Source C code for Kernel 2.2 - 2.4.
ME-5000 SPECIFICATIONS I/O specifications apply to the applicable models with the installed options. See the Table on page 1. The isolation option provides 500 V of protection.
