Meade ETX125
Meade ETX125 This is the main telescope used for small observing nights and outreach. It has a similar architecture to the Meade LX200GPS that will ultimately be housed in the dome, and is therefore appropriate for investigating means of remotely controlling the LX200GPS. Access to the telescope from the computer is achieved by running a cable from the serial port of the computer to the auxiliary port on the Meade AutoStar handheld control, which is in turn plugged into the telescope as per usual.
KStars KStars is able to connect to the ETX125 using it's built in wizard. The telescope is able to be moved using both manual controls (at 4 speeds) as well as point to a particular star. This has yet to be tested under actual observing conditions, but is expected to function as reliable as manual control.
INDI The ETX125 also works fine using INDI directly, and connecting to the server in KStars. This will be useful for combining the telescope with a camera. As the connection goes via the Autostar, the appropriate command to run the server is: $ indiserver -p 8000 indi_lx200autostar
Troubleshooting notes If a loud whining noise is made when turning on the telescope, instead of the lights coming on, the DC power source may not be connected properly. The adapter at the telescope end of the power supply goes in both ways, but only correctly functions one way. The side that says βTIPβ should align with the β+β side of the adapter. Though the adapter is usually left in, it falls out easily if the cord is tripped over.
