Start with Rice:
Use enriched white rice or whole grain brown rice as your base.
Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl 7 cup or larger
rice cookers 2 cups white rice* (2 2/3 rice cooker cups) 4 cups water (5 1/3 rice cooker cups) 1 ½ pounds boneless chicken breasts, cut in 1-inch pieces 4 cups mixed fresh vegetables (such as broccoli, red bell peppers, carrots, snow peas) (5 1/3 rice cooker cups) 1/3 cup bottled teriyaki sauce (or favorite Asian sauce) (1/2 rice cooker cup) Thinly sliced green onions, optional
1. Combine rice and water in rice cooker. Place steamer basket with chicken in cooker over rice. Press ‘Start’ button. 2. After 20 minutes, CAREFULLY open cooker and add vegetables to chicken in steamer basket. Quickly stir and close. 3. Continue cooking 10 to15 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp and rice is cooked. 4. Carefully remove steamer basket and spoon chicken and vegetables into a large serving bowl. Add teriyaki sauce; toss to mix well. Serve over rice. If desired, top with sliced green onions. Makes 6 servings *If using brown rice, which requires longer cooking, refer to instruction manual for amount of water and rice cooking time. Add steamer basket with recipe ingredients at appropriate intervals during the cooking cycle. Please Note: Measurements are given for both U.S. standard cup size and the rice cooker cup size (included with your rice cooker).

Garlic Shrimp Rice Bowl 2 cups white rice* (2 2/3 rice cooker cups) 4 cups water or chicken broth (5 1/3 rice cooker cups) 1 ½ pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined 4 cups cut-up fresh broccoli florets (5 1/3 rice cooker cups) 1 cup diced red bell pepper (1 1/3 rice cooker cups) ¼ cup olive oil (1/3 rice cooker cup) 1 to 2 tablespoons minced garlic ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or black pepper

1. Combine rice and water in rice cooker. Press ‘start’ button. 2. Cook 20 minutes. CAREFULLY open cooker and place steamer basket with shrimp and vegetables over rice. Quickly close cooker. 3. Continue cooking 10 to15 minutes until shrimp and vegetables are tender and rice is cooked. 4. Combine 1 tablespoon oil with the garlic and red pepper flakes in small bowl. Microwave on HIGH 1 minute or until garlic is tender. Remove; add remaining oil, salt and pepper flakes to garlic. 5. Carefully remove steamer basket and spoon shrimp and vegetables into a large serving bowl. Add garlic mixture; toss to mix well. Serve over rice.
