The DS‐247 Electric Encoder™ is semi‐modular, i.e. its rotor and stator are separate, but the rotor is captive inside the stator. Both rotor and stator are supported by the host machine at their one end and loaded – or clamped, at their other end. The encoder can be mounted either on a middle of a machine shaft, or at the end of a shaft as in Figure 1, The axial clamping force on the rotor provided by a factory supplied shaft clamp . The (encoder) stator is supported axially at its circumference and is secured to the host machine by 8 screws.
Figure – 1, Overview Installation procedure Figure 2 shows the encoder 8 mounting screws their mounting bores. Mechanical installation of the encoder involves the following steps: 1. The encoder is secured by 8 screws on a φ232mm bore diameter. 2. Place the DS‐247 onto the shaft until the encoder bottoms in the mounting recess. 3. Add 4 mounting screws symmetrically oriented, screw them all the way to the end and then unscrew 3 turns out. 4. Slide 4 installation spacers aligned with the 4 mounting screws under the DS‐247 while allowing the encoder to rise about 0.5mm. 5. Secure the screws. 6. Gently press the rotor along the shaft toward its lowest position and secure the shaft clamp, the second option ‐ adjust the axial position of the rotor on the shaft until the fine channel amplitude is 0.5V±10% ‐ see Figure 3. 7. Unscrew the screws and remove the installation spacers. 8. Secure the 8 mounting screws.

Note 1: The electrical integrity of the installed DS‐247 with analog SIN/COS outputs can be validated as detailed in application note AN‐02. Note 2: Standard DS encoders are insensitive to ESD and parasitic capacitive coupling from adjacent AC voltages, however, it is recommended to allow a discharge path of no more than several tens of kΩ between the machine shaft and the electronics’ ground, not leaving it electrically floating.
