This range of high speed door curtains can protect against the entrance of cold air streams in the winter, the loss of cooled air in the summer and the effects of dust and pollution, maintaining the ambient air clean and in the desired conditions. Furthermore, the systems can also be used to protect the areas dedicated to refrigeration so as to reduce the loss of cold air. The use of high speed fans allows the installation of the door curtains even in areas where food is prepared, to prevent the entrance of insects. In essence, SABIANA offers a protection solution wherever there is the need to open a door. The product, in addition, must not be installed in compartments or false-ceilings without adequate air intake. 3 Models MU model The MU range of modular door curtains for offices and commercial environments combines the benefits of the most advanced aeraulic technology with the flexibility of a modular system. These very compact units can be fitted individually or joined to create a continuous door curtain. The remote controls and the connection kit allow any number of units to be managed by one single control. The high performance tangential fans coupled with a powerful “twin shaft” motor provide each module the best performance characteristics for entrances up to 2.5m in height, offering protection against winter cold, summer heat, dust and pollution. MC model The MC range of modular door curtains for larger commercial applications uses powerful “twin shaft” motors and high efficiency tangential fans to provide thermal protection for entrances up to 4m in height. The 1m and 1.5m modules can be joined to create a continuous door curtain and an uninterrupted unit profile. 4 Models MI model The MI range of modular door curtains for industrial applications provides a high speed barrier for the protection of industrial doors and logistics platforms in which doors must be left open to allow the movement of vehicles and goods. These high performance door curtains use three-phase motors to supply the maximum air flow, creating effective barriers for doors up to 6m high. Available in models with fan only or hot water supply. The MI series allows production areas and stores to be isolated, minimising the entrance of cold air streams and protecting the working areas. 5 Correct selection of the door curtain Selecting the correct door curtain The quantity of air that passes through an open door depends on three main factors: - the difference in pressure between the indoor environment and the outdoor - the temperature difference - the wind speed Simplifying these phenomena, we can say that an air stream will pass through the door if the indoor conditions, in terms of temperature, pressure and air speed, are different from the outdoor conditions. The air streams are therefore generated by the natural trend to make the pressure and temperature uniform between two joining environments. In a heated environment, the hot air will leave the environment to be replaced by cold air. In the presence of wind, the currents of air through opening will be increased. Indoor/Outdoor Pressure The difference in pressure between the environment and the surrounding space can be eliminated by controlling the ventilation system that neutralises the difference between the indoor and outdoor pressure. Air flow generated by differences in temperature (QT) The hot air inside is less dense, and consequently lighter, than the cold outside air, and therefore a difference in pressure is created through an open door. The cold outdoor air flows through the bottom of the opening and pushes the hot air from the indoor environment to the outdoor, through the top of the opening. The air flow varies according to the temperature difference between the inside and the outside. Air flow due to the force of the wind (QV) When the wind blows against the door, air flows through the opening. The flow of air is distributed uniformly across the entire opening. The quantity of air that flows is therefore proportional to the component of the wind speed that is perpendicular to the door. (After a certain time, the environment will reach a value of overpressure such as to reduce the flow of air to just the level of the leakages from the room). Total air flow (Qtot) The total air flow through an opening is equal to the sum of the flows due to the temperature difference and the flow due to the force of the wind. Qtot = QT + QV 6 Correct selection of the door curtain Operating principles of a door curtain Door curtains are used to prevent cold air from entering an environment and the loss of hot air to the outside. They are also used to protect air conditioned rooms and cold stores against the entrance of hot air and losses of cold air. A door curtain creates a barrier across the open door, preventing unwanted currents of air. The speed of the air created by the door curtain must be high enough to force the resulting flow downwards. The door curtain should be aimed so that only a small part of the air is lost to the outside, keeping the cold air on the outside, following the air barrier, while the hot air remains inside the environment. Criteria for selecting a door curtain It is important to choose the most appropriate model. The height of the door is a critical factor, as is the correct setting of the air speed. If there is a negative pressure inside the environment, the performance of the door curtain will be substantially reduced: the ventilation should be balanced. In most cases, the door curtains must be installed on the inside of the opening that is being protected. Nonetheless, when having to protect a cold room, the curtain must be located on the warmer side, that is, the outside of the opening. For best performance, the door curtain should be located as near as possible to the opening, and cover the entire width of the door. The direction and speed of the air barrier should be adjusted according to the characteristics of the door compartment. The pressure generated by the wind tends to cancel the effect of the door curtain, forcing the curtain of air produced back inside the room. In these situations, the door curtain should be inclined towards the outside. 7 Technical specifications Meltemi ambient ventilation - A series MODEL HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL INST. Meltemi E series - Product description The "E series" door curtains are fitted with electric heaters and the corresponding control components (electromechanical contactors). The units are fitted with a safety thermostat to protect the internal devices in the event of excess temperature. Configuration with filament resistances In the configuration with galvanised steel filament resistances, there are two safety thermostats, both with automatic reset. If activated, power is instantly cut-off to both the resistances and the fan. Configuration with sealed resistances The configuration with sealed resistances, on the other hand, has only one safety thermostat, with manual reset, featuring a bulb sensor. If activated, power is only cut-off to the heaters. Post-ventilation The post-ventilation function is included in MC-E and MI-E versions. When the unit is switched off, the fan continues operating in order to cool the inside of the unit. This only occurs when the door curtain is switched off from the ESW control. When disconnecting the unit directly from the main power line, the post-ventilation function is not able to start, and consequently the safety thermostat will be activated. This must then be reset manually before correctly restarting the door curtain. 8 Thermal emissions of the “MELTEMI” with hot water coil - W series Entering air temperature: +15°C Water temperature EWT 80°C - LWT 70°C MODEL MU-1000W MU-1500W MC-1000W MC-1500W MI-1000W MI-1500W Water temperature EWT 80°C - LWT 60°C Water temperature EWT 60°C - LWT 40°C Speed Air flow m3/h Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C high 1150 684 8,2 36 288 7,1 33 144 4,2 26 low 950 612 7,3 38 252 6,4 35 144 3,7 27 high 1700 1080 12,9 37 468 11,3 34 252 6,7 26 low 1100 828 9,9 41 360 8,7 38 216 5,2 29 high 2200 1548 18,2 39 648 15,5 35 360 8,7 26 low 1520 1224 14,5 43 504 12,5 39 288 7,1 29 high 3300 2304 27,2 40 972 23,4 37 540 13,3 27 low 1870 1692 19,9 46 720 17,3 42 396 10 31 high 3400 2664 31,1 42 1152 27,4 39 684 16,3 29 low 2700 2304 27,1 45 1008 24 41 612 14,3 31 high 5100 4176 48,6 43 1836 43 40 1080 25,8 30 low 4050 3636 42,3 46 1584 37,6 42 936 22,6 31 Entering air temperature: +20°C Water temperature EWT 80°C - LWT 70°C MODEL MU-1000W MU-1500W MC-1000W MC-1500W MI-1000W MI-1500W Water temperature EWT 80°C - LWT 60°C Water temperature EWT 60°C - LWT 40°C Speed Air flow m3/h Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C Water flow l/h Emission kW Leaving air temp. °C high 1150 612 7,5 39 252 6,4 37 144 3,4 29 low 950 540 6,7 41 216 5,8 38 108 3,1 30 high 1700 1008 11,8 40 432 10,2 37 216 5,6 30 low 1100 756 9 44 324 7,9 41 180 4,4 32 high 2200 1404 16,6 42 576 13,9 38 288 7,1 29 low 1520 1116 13,2 46 468 11,2 42 216 5,8 31 high 3300 2124 24,8 43 900 21 40 468 10,9 30 low 1870 1548 18,1 49 648 15,5 45 324 8,2 33 high 3400 2412 28,4 45 1044 24,8 41 576 13,6 32 low 2700 2124 24,8 47 900 21,7 44 504 11,9 33 high 5100 3816 44,4 46 1656 39 42 900 21,5 32 low 4050 3312 38,7 48 1440 34 45 792 18,9 34 9 Water side pressure drop - W series The water pressure drop figures refer to a mean water temperature of 65°C.
