Overview
Speakeasy Solutions Inc. recommends a USB microphone input solution for speech-recognition as the quality and consistency of audio input is higher than that which can be achieved with an analog microphone. Generally, the most accurate inputs are (from most to least accurate): wired headset, wired telephony, handheld, desktop, wireless (depending upon the unit) and digital array. Not all microphones are created equal and therefore not all input devices on the market are effective. Speakeasy Solutions Inc. tests all of the microphones sold to ensure the microphones meet their stringent requirements and match your needs. B.
Headsets
Speakeasy Solutions Inc. provided headsets have noise cancellation and function very well in a noisy environment. Headsets are available in either monaural (one earphone) or stereo/binaural (two earphones). Speakeasy Solutions Inc. primarily carries headsets by Sennheiser.

Sennheiser PC 1131 U
Adjustable, bendable and pivotable USB binaural microphone improves the clarity of your communication, and gives you more comfort and flexibility. In-line volume control/microphone mute switch lets you decide your listening volume and what the computer hears. Single-sided cable will keep neck and chin free from distracting cables so that you can concentrate on your dictation. Helps you keep things neat by holding unneeded cable wire (between the headphones and the adapter) to keep it out of the way. Can be used with CD/DVD/MP3 player via a detachable USB adapter that reveals 2 x 3.5 mm plugs.

Sennheiser SH 330 U2
Noise Cancelling Monaural USB Microphone blocks out ambient noise, making it for the listener to understand what you are saying. Flexible Microphone Boom Multi-adjustable (pivots 300°). Teflon® washer arrangement for accurate and stable positioning and optimal durability due to minimized friction between the components. Can be adjusted to the exactly correct position and stays there. ActiveGard™ - Before an excessive incoming signal even reaches your ears, the patented technology acts as an automatic control in your headset to instantly lower the volume. ActiveGard™ safeguards you from the effects of an acoustic burst. Multi-adjustable Headband can be accurately adjusted on both sides. The soft and ergonomic side support is exchangeable. This headset can also be used in conjunction with the Sennheiser UI telephony boxes so that you can use the same headset to speak over the telephone and the PC.

Sennheiser SH 350 U2
Same as the SH 330-UP except it is a binaural headset with large sized ear caps to efficiently block out noise in loud environments. This microphone headset also collapses down perfectly for those who need to be mobile with their headsets (i.e. with a notebook). 4.
Sennheiser SH 310 U2
Same as the SH 330-UP except it is a lightweight ear clip, with a compact microphone boom. This is an alternative solution for those who do not wish to wear an actual headset. 5.

Sennheiser CC 530 U2
Same as the CC 510-UP except it is a 2-in-1 Solution - Ear clip or Headband. The CC 530-UP is supplied with a detachable headband and two light-metal Ear Clips that easily clicks on, providing you with the flexibility of changing your wearing style whenever you want. C.
Handheld
Not quite as accurate as headset systems, it is very accurate overall and useful for short bursts of dictation where headsets may get in the way. The ANC 300 is quite lightweight and comes with a mute switch. The Philips SpeechMike 5274 is larger than the ANC 300 and has a trackball for moving the mouse around (there is no mute switch with this handheld). The stylus model is used by those with a tablet PC, offering a microphone on the end of the stylus/pen (a mute switch is available). 1.

Stylus USB

30" Gooseneck
A 30" Gooseneck microphone available with or without USB interface. Sensitive microphone can be used from 1" to 6" away from the microphone end. The Gooseneck microphone includes a metallic clamp, which can be used to attach the Gooseneck microphone to a surface with up to 2.25" thickness. Gooseneck microphones are in use throughout the US, Canada and Europe by customers with disabilities. 2.

Telephony
Telephony microphones enable you to use the same microphone input for the computer and your telephone. Various solutions are available, including wireless. Speakeasy Solutions Inc. recommends a telephony solution if you spend about as much time on the computer as you do on the telephone or wish the convenience of only one microphone for both rather than contending with a handset or telephone headset in addition to another microphone. The range of the wireless headset from the base unit is 100 m. You will be far away from your computer by the time your voice starts to drop out and negatively impact recognition accuracy. The battery provides 4.5 hours of talk time. An optional extra battery can be purchased for endless talk time.
Please note that while this Bluetooth wireless headset can also be used with your telephone, and mobile phone (as well as PDA), at this point in time you cannot switch between telephone and PC seamlessly. Therefore, if you need to seamlessly switch between telephone and PC, we suggest a wired Sennheiser headset (i.e. SH 330) and a switchbox (i.e. UI 750).
