Food or liquid could expand rapidly and cause container or bag to break. Pierce or open container or bag before cooking. 10. Do not use regular thermometers in unit. Most cooking thermometers contain mercury and may cause an electrical arc, malfunction, or damage to unit. 11. If you have a pacemaker, consult physician or pacemaker manufacturer to avoid malfunction and be aware of effects of microwave energy on pacemaker. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS & ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS WARNING! Improper use of grounding can result in electric shock. To avoid risk of electrical shock or death, this unit MUST be grounded and plug must not be altered. Microwave oven must be grounded. Grounding lowers risk of electrical shock by providing an escape wire of the electrical current if an electrical short occurs. This unit is equipped with a cord containing a grounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug must be inserted in an outlet that is properly installed and grounded. See Installation Instructions. Consult a qualified electrician if you need assistance with grounding instructions or if you are unsure whether unit is properly grounded. WARNING! Do not use an adaptor or extension. THE UNIT SHOULD ALWAYS BE PLUGGED INTO ITS OWN INDIVIDUAL ELECTRIC OUTLET. If the unit power cord is too short, consult a qualified electrician to install a three-slot receptacle. This unit should be plugged into a separate 60 hertz circuit with the electrical rating as shown in specifications chart. If unit shares a circuit with other equipment, voltage may drop, thus requiring an increase in cooking times, and blown fuses. Microwave unit operates on standard household current AC120V. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Page 12 COOKING SUGGESTIONS FOR BEST RESULTS SIZE Small pieces of food cook faster than larger pieces. Pieces similar in size and shape will cook more evenly when cooked together. For more even results, reduce the power level when cooking large pieces of food. STORAGE TEMPERATURE Foods taken from freezer or refrigerator take longer to cook than if they were room temperature. NATURAL MOISTURE Moisture rich foods cook more evenly because the microwave energy heats water molecules very efficiently. FOOD PLACEMENT When cooking delicate food items such as asparagus, place toward center of turntable tray. FOOD ARRANGEMENT When cooking unevenly shaped foods such as chicken pieces, place the thicker/meatier parts toward outside of turntable tray. STIRRING Stir food such as casseroles from the outside to center in order to evenly distribute the heat. This allows food to cook faster. TURNING Turn foods such as roast beef halfway through cook time. This allows exposure of all sides evenly to the microwave energy. WRAPPING Sandwiches and many other foods that contain prebaked bread should be wrapped in paper towel or wax paper prior to placing in microwave to help prevent drying out during heating. Aluminum foil, plastic, paper or other combustible materials should never be used in microwave; this includes for the use of wrapping food. NOTE: DO NOT USE PAPER TOWELS THAT CONTAIN NYLON OR OTHER SYNTHETIC FIBERS. HEATED SYNTHETICS COULD MELT AND CAUSE PAPER TO IGNITE. COVERING Certain foods, such as sauces, should be covered during heating time to avoid splattering. Aluminum foil, plastic, paper or other combustible materials should never be used in microwave; this includes for the use of covering food. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Page 13 COOKING SUGGESTIONS FOR BEST RESULTS ALLOW FOOD TO STAND After removing food from microwave, cover with foil or lid and let stand to finish cooking. This allows the food to complete cooking in center and avoid overcooking edges. The standing time will vary depending on density and surface area of food items. DEFROSTING For raw/uncooked food, use defrost weight and defrost time features. Defrosting provides best results when food is taken directly from freezer. If food has been stored in a refrigerator-freezer, you should input a lower food weight or lower cook time to prevent cooking the food. If the frozen food is stored outside freezer for up to 20 minutes, enter a lower cook time or weight. Also note the following points when defrosting: • Shape of package will alter defrost time. Shallow, rectangular food packets defrost faster than a deep, frozen block of food. • Separate pieces and rearrange food as items begin to defrost. This allows the food to defrost better. Remove pieces of food that are nearly defrosted. COOKING MEAT & POULTRY Always place prepared meat on microwave-safe roasting rack in microwave-safe dish. Cook meat fat side down first. Turn over halfway through cooking time. Once cooked, check temperature in several places and let stand. Beef and pork should stand at least 10 minutes. Chicken should stand at least 5 minutes. Temperature of beef and pork can rise approximately 10°F during standing period. COOKING VEGETABLES & EGGS • Vegetables should be washed before cooking. If dense items such as potatoes, carrots and greens are being cooked, you only need to add about ¼ cup of water. • Whole vegetables such as potatoes should be arranged in a circle on turntable and turned over halfway through cooking. These types of foods (potatoes, squash, eggplant, etc.), should also be pricked in several locations before cooking to prevent bursting. After cooking, denser foods need about 5 minutes standing time. • Always arrange vegetables such as asparagus and broccoli with the stem ends pointing toward the edge of the dish and tips toward center. • Small and cut vegetables (sliced carrots, peas, beans, etc.) will cook faster than larger vegetables. These should always be covered with a lid or vented microwave plastic wrap. • Never cook or warm eggs in shell, as they can explode. Always pierce whole eggs to keep them from bursting. • Cook eggs just until set, as they can become tough if overcooked. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Page 14 COOKING SUGGESTIONS FOR BEST RESULTS COOKING SEAFOOD Always place prepared fish on microwave-safe roasting rack in microwave-safe dish. Be sure to always cook fish until it flakes easily with fork. Do not overcook. Always check fish at the minimum cooking time before cooking longer. When steaming fish, use a tight cover. A lighter cover such as wax paper or paper towel will not be as efficient. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Page 15 CARE AND CLEANING Clean unit weekly according to the instructions below, and as spills and splatters occur. For safety reasons and best performance, always keep microwave clean inside and out. Food particles and spilled liquids can stick to oven walls, causing the unit to work less efficiently. Also take care to keep inner door panel and frame free of food and grease build-up. Please note the following instructions: • Never operate the micr owave without food inside, as this can damage the magnetron tube or glass turntable. • Never use rough scouring powder or pads to clean microwave. Never use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners. • Carefully remove glass turntable from inside of unit before cleaning inside. • Use a SOFT, clean cloth or paper towel dampened with WARM water and a small amount of MILD soap to clean inside of unit. Do not let water seep into any vents or openings. Wipe away soap and then wipe unit completely dry. • To clean glass turntable, handle with care, and wash in warm sudsy water or in dishwasher. • Clean spills and splatters immediately. • To loosen baked-on foods or liquids, heat 2 cups of water in a 4 cup measuring glass on high power for 5 minutes or to boiling and let stand 1 – 2 minutes. If fresh smelling microwave is desired, add the juice of 1 lemon to the water. • If steam accumulates inside or outside unit, wipe with soft cloth. Expect steam to accumulate in high humidity. This does not indicate microwave leakage. READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS ALONG WITH YOUR RECEIPT. Page 16 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE – REFERENCE BEFORE CALLING FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.
