Make sure the console power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet that is appropriate for your Vectrex unit. Check to be sure the plug for the built-in control panel is firmly seated in the control panel outlet on the right. Insert the screen overlay behind the tabs at the top and bottom of the screen. Turn the OFF/ON/VOLUME CONTROL to the ON position (clockwise). You will see the Vectrex title for a few seconds, then the name of the game. Adjust the volume control to the desired listening level.
Mine Storm Controls Mine Storm is designed to be played with the built-in control panel only. The functions of the controls are: Joystick Rotates your mine destroying ship. Pushing to the right rotates clockwise. Pushing to the left rotates counterclockwise. Escape (button 2) Mysteriously moves your ship to a new location. Thrust (button 3) Moves your ship forward. Fire (button 4) Fires rockets at the mines.
How to Play Player Selection S Mine Sttorm can bee played as a one or tw wo player ggame. Wheen 'PLAYE ER 1' appearrs on the screen, presss Button 1 once to sw witch to a tw wo player ggame. 'PLA AYER 2' wiill then sho ow on the screen. s Wheen played as a a two plaayer game,, only the bbuilt-in conttrol panel is used and the t players take turns using this ccontrol pannel. You caan return to a yer game by y pressing Button 1 again beforee starting ggame play. one play Starting g Game Pllay mine field and Once yo ou select th he number of o players, press Buttoon 4 to enteer the first m start gam me play. Game Play P The eneemy minelaayer will mo ove through your galaaxy and will seed the first mine field. Yo our ship wiill come intto view oncce he disapppears. Fouur large minnes will suddenly y become activated. a Maneuv ver your shiip within th he galaxy in n an effort to destroy the mines. Use your joystick k to rotate your y ship an nd button 3 to thrust fforward. Buutton 2 alloows you to mysterio ously movee to a new location l on n the screenn. Use it cauutiously... it might puut you in a more diffiicult prediccament! As you travell through sppace, use bbutton 4 forr fire at the mines. m As yo ou destroy them, additional minees will becoome activaated. Be careful.... the minellayer may reappear r to o seed the fi field, but yoou can blast him as weell. Once yo ou make thaat part of th he galaxy safe, s you im mmediatelyy travel to thhe next minne field. Th here are 13 different mine m fields, each one bbecoming iincreasinglly difficult.. Getting g Hit If you arre hit by a mine you will w lose on ne ship. Thee minelayeer will reseeed the fieldd you are curreently in and d you will have h anoth her chance tto clear outt the field iif you havee any ships rem maining. Types of o Mines There arre 4 kinds of o mines which w appeaar at differeent stages oof the gamee. Floating g Mines: These arre "dumb" mines m which simply s drift through spaace.
Fireball Mines: These mines m hurl a fireball f at yo ou as soon ass you hit them m. You can avoid the firreball or destro oy it with a rocket. r Magnetiic Mines: These mines m will folllow you any ywhere in thhe galaxy youu go.
Magnetiic-Fireball Mines: M These mines m have th he traits of bo oth Magneti c and Firebaall Mines.
Each typ pe of mine will appeaar in 3 sizess - large, m medium andd small. Field Ty ypes Each off the 13 min ne fields geets more diffficult, but each startss with 4 largge mines. O Once m is desstroyed, 2 medium-siz m zed mines aare activateed. When a medium-siized a large mine mine is destroyed, 2 small miines are acttivated. Thee first fieldd has 4 floaating mines. Each neew field starrts with harrder combiinations of mines. Willl you discoover the typpes of mines in Field 13? 1 If you can survive 13 mine fields, you will w enter a new type oof universee. Space dust and alien forces make this new world a difficult chhallenge! Number of Ships In each game you will w start with w 5 shipss. Restarting the Game To restart a completed game with the same number of players, press any of the four action buttons once the game is over. If you wish to restart the game before it is completed, or change the number of players, press the Reset Button on the console.
