FITTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR VENT-AXIA MINIVENT SHOWER FAN READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION. IMPORTANT 1. All electrical connections should be made by a properly qualified electrician. The fan must be sited and connected in accordance with current IEE regulations (BS7671) or the appropriate standards in your country. 2. This is intended to ventilate a shower area or cubicle, but the fan motor must be mounted outside the shower area or cubicle, and away from direct sources of water spray (see fig. 1.). The motor must be out of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower. Site away from direct sources of heat in excess of 45 °C. Do not site in an area containing excessive levels of grease. 3. When the fan extracts from a room containing a fuel burning appliance, the installer must ensure that the air replacement is adequate for both the fan and the fuel burning appliance. 4. Wiring should be via a switched spur with a 3 amp fuse (UK). Double pole switch or plug and socket should be located outside the room containing a fixed bath or shower. 5. Ducted applications. In circumstances where an excessive amount of moisture is present in the air, then a condensation trap will need to be installed in the exhaust duct. Horizontal ducts should fall away from the fan unit. Ducts passing through an unheated roof void should be insulated together with the fan unit.
INSTALLATION See Fig. 1 1. Mark positions where the grilles are to be sited, having ensured that there is adequate clearance behind. 2. Cut a 115mm hole in the ceiling and screw the inlet grille in place. 3. Cut a 115mm hole for the outlet grille. 4. Position the fan at the highest point on the system with a slope downwards to both grilles. In this position fix the fan mounting strap base to a suitable support using a woodscrew or other suitable fixing.
With the fan positioned so that the cable is pointing downwards and the arrow is pointing towards the outlet grille, pass the fan mounting strap through the base slots and wrap around the centre of the fan and pull tight. 5. Stretch and cut the duct (see note) to fit between each grille and the centreline of the fan. Attach the outlet grille to the duct using a nylon strap, pass the duct through the outlet hole and secure the grille using the fixings provided. Slide the free end of the duct onto the outlet end of the fan and secure with a nylon strap. 6. Attach the inlet duct to the inlet grille using a nylon strap. Pierce a hole in the TOP of the duct approximately 40mm from the fan, pass the cable through and then slide the duct onto the fan. Secure the duct with a nylon strap. Seal wiring hole as necessary. NOTE: The duct should be stretched without any holes or splits and should not exceed 3 metres in order to obtain best performance.
WIRING See Figs 2, 3 , 4 & 5. 1. ENSURE THAT THE MAINS SUPPLY IS SWITCHED OFF BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE WIRING. This fan is only suitable for connection to a 230-240V 50Hz Supply and MUST be earthed. The fan is intended for connection to fixed wiring. 2. The installation must be provided with a double pole isolator switch having a contact separation of not less than 3mm. 3. Using a suitable 5 amp junction box and 3 core cable of 5 amp rating, connect the fan leads to the switched fuse outlet as shown in the wiring diagrams. Note that the leads are colour coded: brown - live (L), blue - neutral (N), black - switched live (Ls, timer model only), and green/yellow - earth (E/ ). 4. Switch on the mains supply and check the fan operation.
