ORDERING MMS 2-channel Modem Sharing Device Specifications are subject to change without prior notice. 228-100-03/99  1999 RAD Data Communications Ltd. MMS 2-Channel Modem Sharing Device FEATURES • • • • • • • Synchronous and asynchronous Data rates up to 38.4 kbps Cascadable RTS contention No external power required Easy to install and configure Miniature, lightweight APPLICATION DESCRIPTION • MMS, a Modem Sharing Device, enables two DTEs to share a master modem or a multiplexer in a multidrop environment. • MMS operates with synchronous or asynchronous equipment. It transfers the timing signals from the modem connected to the main channel, to the subchannels. MMS is cascadable - several units can be cascaded to increase the number of subchannels. • The main channel broadcasts information to subchannels in parallel. Subchannels contend to transmit to the main channel by activating RTS. If RTS is raised, the subchannel’s transmit data and control signals are connected to the main channel. When RTS drops, control circuitry is switched to monitor the other subchannel. • No AC power required; the unit uses ultra-low power derived from the RS-232/V.24 data and control signals. SPECIFICATIONS • Subchannels Number: 2 (expandable by cascading) Selection: RTS-ON Deselection: RTS-OFF • Data Rate Synchronous: External, derived from the modem, up to 38.4 kbps Asynchronous: 0.3 to 38.4 kbps • Interface Main channel and subchannels: RS-232/V.24 • Connectors Main: D-type 25-pin male, on 20 cm / 7.9 in flat cable Subchannels: D-type 25-pin female, built into the unit • Power No AC power required, uses ultra-low power derived from the data and control signals. • Physical Length: 135 mm / 5.3 in Height: 30 mm / 1.2 in Width: 53 mm / 2.1 in Weight: 150g / 5.3 oz • Environment Temperature: 0-50°C / 32-122°F Humidity: up to 95%, non-condensing Declaration of Conformity RAD Data Communications Ltd.
