Das Gerät läuft unter MS Windows Mobile 6.0 mit einem 806 MHz Marvell XScale Prozessor und verfügt über bis zu 1 GB Flash Speicher. Das TDS Nomad erleichtert die Datenerfassung, Datenvorhaltung und Datenkommunikation wesentlich. Das integrierte GPS liefert die Daten zur Navigation oder andere GIS und GPS Anwendungen. Das Lesen von 1D Barcodes ist genauso möglich wie die Aufnahme von Bildern mit der integrierten 2 Megapixel Digitalkamera. Zudem kann das TDS Nomad noch über einen CF-Card Slot oder über einen SDIO Slot mit zusätzlichen Optionen erweitert werden. Wie auch alle anderen mobilen Geräte von Tripod Data Systems (TDS) entspricht auch das TDS Nomad ohne Einschränkungen den militärischen Anforderungen nach MIL-STD 810F bezüglich Fallhöhe, Vibrationen, Feuchtigkeit, Höhenlage und Temperaturen. Das Gerät ist IP67 geschützt. Dies bedeutet, das TDS Nomad ist vollständig wasserdicht, geprüft bis zu einem Meter Eintauchtiefe für die Dauer von 30 Minuten. Das TDS Nomad wird mit einem 806 MHz Marvell PXA320 XSCale Prozessor, wahlweise mit 512 MB oder 1 GB Flash Speicher und Li-Ion Wechselakkupack geliefert. Das kontrastreiche VGA Display mit Touchscreen ist auch im Sonnenlicht sehr gut lesbar und daher ideal zur Anzeige von hochauflösenden Grafiken und Karten geeignet.
