Heliodyne Delta-T Pro Controller BAS and Modbus API OVERVIEW Delta-T Pro Controllers (Delta-T Pro Wi-fi and Delta-T Pro Ethernet) provide read-only sensor and performance data directly to MODBUSbased building automation systems (BAS). PROTOCOLS OTHER THAN MODBUS For building automation systems that do not use MODBUS, Heliodyne will provide a bridge made by one of our partners configured to read Delta-T Pro data and communicate in your choice of over 100 protocols. Our partner provides industry-leading technical support for establishing a data connection to existing systems. DATA POINTS The Delta-T Pro delivers 22 read-only data points in unsigned 16 - bit (UINT16) format. Because Modbus protocol does not support floating point numbers directly, the data is split up into two parts: the whole number part immediately followed by the decimal part.

MODBUS PARAMETERS Heliodyne Pro Controllers can be configured as either MODBUS RTU or MODBUS TCP slaves. To enable, connect directly to the controller and go to the Settings page - ‘SYSTEM’ tab as shown above. RTU is delivered via RS-232 communication and requires a direct link to the client using an IDE 10pin to DB-9 Female cable adapter available from Heliodyne. (Baud = 9600, Data bits = 8, Parity = None, Stop bits = 1). The 10-pin connector must be connected to RS-232 portJ-15 on the Pro’s circuit board. The cable adapter from Heliodyne comes standard 1’ length. An RS232 cable with DB-9 connector can be used to lengthen the standard Heliodyne cable adapter (industry maximum is 50’ or 2500pF capacitance). TCP is delivered over a standard Ethernet / IP (Internet Protocol) network. Simply connect the DeltaT-Pro to the network and add the Delta-T Pro’s IP address to the desired Modbus client for data polling. SHOULD I USE RTU OR TCP? • The benefit of RTU is the data is delivered through a cable directly connected to the client; it is not subject to network outages. However, the distance from the Pro to the client is limited to 50’. • TCP does not require any labor intensive cabling, which may be unfeasible at some sites, it relies on the existing network infrastructure to deliver data. The Delta-T Pro is programmed to respond to MODBUS function code 04, which serves out all points on a single query. Note: The DeltaT-Pro will automatically respond to function code 04 whenever you request addresses between 30000 and 39999.
