This equipment should never be operated by children or individuals that are untrained or incapable of understanding these safety precautions! 2. Do not reach into the feed opening for any reason! Never insert fingers, hands, other extremities, or objects not meant to be shredded into the feed opening! 3. Do not operate or come in close proximity to this equipment wearing long hair, necktie, loose clothing, or jewelry which may activate a photoelectric on/off switch and/or be pulled into the shredder. 4. Maintenance or repair of this equipment should be performed only be trained, authorized service personnel. 5. Always disconnect electrical power (unplug) before removing or opening the cover or other panels providing access to internal mechanisms. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 3 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the highest throughput optical media shredder on the market!! The SEM Model 0202 OMD is a robustly designed unit and incorporates hardened steel cutting shafts for sharpness longevity. It also features a touch screen LCD Interface for ease of use and extended capabilities. The Model 0202 OMD is also capable of running on 120V or 230V power at 50 or 60Hz and comes equipped right out of the box to do so without any alterations required by the user. Simply plug in the appropriate power cord (both provided with the unit) depending on voltage supply. Items/Packaging The SEM 0202HS Optical Shredder package should include the following items: • 1 SEM Model 0202 OMD Optical Media Shredder • 1 corrugated waste bin • 3 plastic bags for the waste bin • 2 power cords: o 1 U.S. style cord (NEMA 5-20P to IEC60320-C19) for use with 120V 60Hz current o 1 European style cord (CEE 7/7 to IEC60320-C19) for use with 230V 50Hz current • 10 sealed oil sheets Usage The SEM 0202 OMD Optical Media Shredder has been NSA Evaluated for high security destruction of optical media including CD ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW. Additionally, it may also be used for plastic cards with magnetically stored information, i.e. credit cards, hotel passes, security passes, driver’s licenses, etc. Under no circumstances shall any items made of or containing metal be inserted into the unit! Permanent damage to the cutting head may be incurred!!! For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 4 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD Operating the unit Before using the unit, always ensure the corrugated waste bin and a waste bin bag is installed in the unit!! Attach the appropriate power cord to the receptacle at the rear of the unit. Attach the other end to normal line voltage. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 5 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD The LCD Display Interface will immediately illuminate. The initial SEM ‘splash’ screen will appear for several seconds. It shows the unit name and model number. The main user screen now appears. It is comprised of a Forward and a Reverse button. The LCD Display Interface is a touch screen display that allows the user to control the unit via finger touches and receive feedback via several symbols and indicators. NEVER operate the display using sharp objects, i.e. pens, pencils, paper clips, etc. or permanent damage may occur!!! The user may simply insert an optical media disc into the slot. The unit is equipped with a photo sensor for detection of the media and will activate automatically and shutoff after several seconds. Note that the single green arrow indicates the direction of shredding while the unit is running. The user may also choose to activate the unit manually. Pressing the Forward button will turn the unit on for 3 seconds. If the Forward button is depressed for more than 3 seconds the unit will remain activated continuously for 60 seconds. To stop the unit at anytime, press the Stop button which now appears in place of the Forward button. Again, the single green arrow illuminates to indicate shredding direction. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 7 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD In the event of a jam, the unit will automatically go into reverse mode and then forward again for several seconds to try and clear the jam. The symbols below are the indicators for a Jam and Auto clearing of the jam. If the jam cannot be automatically cleared, the user may manually Reverse the unit. Depressing the Reverse button will make the unit run in the reverse direction for about 1.5 seconds. The single direction indicator arrow now shows the Reverse direction. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 8 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD If the unit becomes full of waste, the Waste Bin indicator will appear. The waste bin bag should now be removed and a new bag installed. Anytime the door is opened, the unit will de-activate if running and the Door Open symbol will appear. The unit will never be allowed to activate when this symbol is present. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 9 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD If the unit is not used and the LCD Interface Display is untouched for greater than 60 seconds, the unit will go into Low Power mode and the display will revert to the SEM ‘splash’ screen with a ‘dimmed’ screen. If the unit is further untouched for several more minutes the screen will turn fully black. In either mode the unit may be put back into Full Power mode by simply pressing anywhere on the display. After 500 optical discs have been run thru the unit, the user will be required to re-lubricate the cutting heads. The Oil indicator will appear to alert the user to do so. The Oil indicator is only an alert and can be reset simply by the user by pressing on the Oil symbol for 2-3 seconds. If the Oil indicator is not reset, it will turn red after several more runs. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 10 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD When the Oil indicator appears the user should insert 3-4 oil sheets. These will need to be folded, as shown. The unit is equipped with a thermal switch for safety to ensure that the motor does not overheat. If the unit is run continuously for longer than 1 hour then at some point the switch will engage and disallow the unit to activate until the temperature has dropped to safe levels. If this occurs, the OverTemp indicator will appear and the user must wait for it to automatically reset. For NATIONWIDE SERVICE call (800) 225-9293 11 PRODUCT OPERATION & MAINTEANCE PROCEDURE Model 0202 OMD If the unit encounters many errors or an unsafe condition is detected, the Service Needed symbol is displayed. If this occurs, please contact SEM Service and Support. If the “Service Needed” symbol is displayed, there will be a number displayed along with it. Please write down this number as it will help identify the cause of the fault.
