These two machines perfectly suit market needs for lightweight, compact utility vehicles capable of filling a variety of roles. KAF400A shown The design concept for the new MULE 610 4x4 (4WD) and MULE 600 (2WD) was simple and to the point: compact, comfortable, and classy. To achieve these goals, Kawasaki took some of the best technology from current MULEs and ATVs, then wrapped their creations in curvaceous new “high-volume” bodywork. A displacement increase from 286 cm3 to 401 cm3 and improvements to the cylinder head significantly boost the power output compared to the former model KAF300C, allowing these new MULEs to run alongside the MULE 4000 series models. Like their larger counterparts, the MULE 610 4x4 and MULE 600 have a top speed of 40 km/h for added piece of mind. To further increase the MULE 610 4x4’s off-road capability the rugged steel-tube chassis come equipped with MacPherson strut front suspension like that on the MULE 4000 series models, front differential based on that of the KVF400 4x4 and numerous skid-plates. Selectable 2WD/4WD (a class first) and new 24” tyres let the 610 4x4 go where others fear to tread. In terms of design, these machines are just as impressive, thanks to all-new “high-volume” styling which gives them a more elegant, more voluminous appearance and feel. One look will tell customers that these stylish machines can perform many roles in addition to that of utility workhorse for the farm, like the construction and hospitality industries. For work, play and everything in between, the new MULE 610 4x4 and MULE 600 offer more value and performance for the money than any other machines in their category. The MULE 610 4x4 and 600’s key sales features can be summarised as follows: • Styling: Tough & Classy – All-new bodywork and front grill design give the machines curvaceous lines similar to top-of-the-line pickup trucks, while an elegant new automotive-style instrument/control panel looks great and is easy to operate. • Engine with Increased Displacement – Reliable, air-cooled, 401 cm3 4-stroke engine pumps out plenty of torque for a wide range of utility and leisure applications. High versatility comes care of a selectable 2WD/4WD (KAF400A only), dual speed ranges (KAF400A only) and a manually operated differential lock. 2005MY MULE 610 4x4 / MULE 600 Model Information Page: 2 • Increased Off-road Capability (KAF400A) – The only selectable 2WD/4WD in its class, dual speed ranges, limited-slip front differential and rear differential lock (also on KAF400B) increase the MULE 610 4x4’s off-road capability. Beefy 24” tyres, sealed brakes, multiple skid plates and MacPherson strut front suspension (also on KAF400B) complete the rugged package. • Increased Comfort/Convenience – Totally revamped styling incorporates many ergonomic features and numerous convenient storage spaces, including a large sealed front trunk, a sealed glove box and cup holders. • Compact – Lightweight and compact design allows the MULE 610 4x4 and 600 to be easily loaded into the back of a pickup truck. KEY SALES FEATURES NEW STYLING: TOUGH & CLASSY Bodywork * All-new styling gives the MULE 610 4x4 and MULE 600 a more voluminous appearance. Curved surfaces and lines contribute to a high-class design and improved shape and fit of various parts give a high-quality finish. * Elegantly styled fenders and bodywork strike a perfect balance between rugged functionality and great looks. * Automotive-style instrument panel also contributes to the high-class image. (Photo 1) 1 2 * Headlights of the same style as those on the KVF750 4x4 give the new MULEs a tough look and help create a consistent Kawasaki image. (Photo 2) * TPO (thermoplastic olefin) body panels resist scuffing and dents. Colour is moulded in. 2005MY MULE 610 4x4 / MULE 600 Model Information Page: 3 NEW ENGINE WITH INCREASED DISPLACEMENT Engine * The MULE 610 4x4 and MULE 600 are powered by a 401cm3, 4-stroke, OHV, air-cooled engine. Compact, lightweight and durable, the engine is extremely reliable. Engines fitted to the 610 4x4 have different cylinder heads, more compression and other modifications to the intake and exhaust systems to deliver the added power required by 4WD. (Photos 3,4) 3 KAF400A 4 KAF400B * Overhead valves designed for efficient running and good fuel economy are durable and operate quietly. * Highly efficient carburettor delivers excellent fuel economy. * The engine’s air supply enters the air cleaner box via a snorkel intake routed through the tubing of the overhead frame, ensuring the engine is provided with a steady supply of clean air, even in dusty operating conditions. * Crankcase breathers fitted to route blow-by back to the intake pipe for cleaner exhaust emissions. INCREASED OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY (KAF400A) Transmission * The MULE 610 4x4 is the first utility vehicle in its class to offer selectable 2WD/4WD. Belt-driven automatic transmission with a Hi-Lo dual-range transfer case gives the 610 4x4 excellent off-road riding capability. Two forward speeds to choose from lend flexibility when hill-climbing with a heavy load. * Limited-slip front differential also contributes to good handling over rough terrain, providing great traction with low steering effort. 2005MY MULE 610 4x4 / MULE 600 Model Information Page: 4 * Rear differential lock (also on KAF400B) allows rear wheels to be locked for maximum traction in mud or snow. Ground disturbance is minimised when unlocked. Oil seal improves water/mud resistance. * Torque converter air cleaner with easily replaceable filter element reduces torque converter wear by cooling it with filtered air taken in through the overhead frame (as per the engine intake). Chassis * Independent MacPherson strut-type front suspension (also on KAF400B) allows each wheel to track over uneven ground for maximum traction with light steering effort. Minimal wheel camber change throughout the suspension stroke contributes to stable handling. (Photos 5,6) 5 KAF400A 6 KAF400B * Meaty 24” tyres with new front and rear tread patterns provide great off-road traction, ensure ample ground clearance and complement the pickup-truck styling. Front: 24 x 9-10; rear: 24 x 11-10. (22” tyres of the KAF400B also feature revised patterns for enhanced traction.) * Front and rear brake drum seals are triple-lipped for water and mud resistance. * Skid plates for the front differential, engine and rear differential are fitted as standard equipment. Centre skid plate greatly reduces the chance of getting stuck when driving over obstacles. 2005MY MULE 610 4x4 / MULE 600 Model Information Page: 5 INCREASED COMFORT/CONVENIENCE Bodywork/Ergonomics * Pickup-truck-style front bonnet opens to reveal a capacious 48 litre sealed storage area.
