fter last month’s 500W Strider Essential Series PSU, we were starting to wonder when Silverstone will come up with another product to top its current lineup. Thankfully for this month, we have the SST-ST1000-P, a 1000W PSU from Silverstone’s Strider Plus product lineup. On top of offering 1000W power, the PSU is 100% modular, offering users with huge power needs (all SATA ports occupied, two dualGPU graphic cards, etc.) and plenty of headroom to work with. Like its 500W sibling, the PSU doesn’t really stand out that much. The PSU is matte black and painted with lead-free paint. The PSU runs with an Active PFC for even better performance, as well as offers 80-Plus Silver certification along with a number of other security options. The PSU uses a single rail at +12V with 80A to 85A peak for better stability. The Strider Plus 1000W PSU comes with plenty of cables, taking into consideration users with heavy power loads or systems with a lot of connected devices. This includes one standard 24-pin motherboard power connector, two 4+4pin CPU power connectors, four 6+2-pin PCI-e 2.0 power connectors, two 6-pin PCI-e 2.0 power connectors, six SATA power connectors, six 4-pin peripheral connectors and two 4-pin floppy power connectors. All of them
are modular, so you can pick and choose according to what you need so that your casing does not become too cluttered with loose cable ends.

While it has no specific SLI or CrossFireX certifications, all of the cables mean that you have full support for two dual-GPU cards or a three-way SLI. This means you can hook-up two ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphic cards in CrossFireX or a number of other NVIDIA cards in SLI. At the very least, the PSU should be able to handle two GTX 480s in a 2-way SLI and have enough leftover power to spare. The 135mm fan is mostly silent during operation and for the most part does its job particularly well, considering that it has a lot more fan blades than an already large 120mm fan. Silverstone’s Strider Plus 1000W PSU or SST-ST1000-P is definitely one of the better 1000W PSUs out there. While most 1000W PSU users would probably already be using the full complement of cables anyway, there are always a few cables loose so the Strider Plus 1000W does help a little in cleaning up the cable clutter, which in turn results in better airflow. We found the PSU to be quite robust and stable while the modular cable system adds a bit more flexibility. The oversized 135mm fan ensured a mostly cool and silent operation, making this PSU the optimum device to go for if your rig’s power needs go above 850W.
