The Micro-CAM provides a USB digital and analog audio interface between an Operator Position PC and several peripherals that attach to an Ultra-Com Software Remote Operator Position PC. It is intended as a lower cost alternative to Moducom’s traditional Computer Audio Module (CAM) based operator position. IT s ol ut io ns .
Micro Computer Audio Module (Micro-CAM) Description The Micro-CAM provides a USB interface between the PC and several peripherals attached to a Software Remote operator position. The Micro-CAM is typically mounted in a small enclosure that includes a dual-prong headset jack connector. It can also be housed in an integrated case that contains a small touch screen tablet computer, select and unselect speakers, headset jack and assorted peripheral connectors. Power is provided through a small 12V switching power supply or by tapping into the 19V (typical.) power source used by a cohabitated small touch screen tablet computer.
Micro Computer Audio Module (Micro-CAM) Functionality All activities on the card are controlled by an Analog Devices ADSP-BF532 Blackfin processor. The Micro-CAM board’s primary functions are: •

Provide an USB interface port to the PC. This is used to pass all commands and data packets between the Ultra-Com Run Mode software and the Micro-CAM. If the optional SDRAM is provided, the Ultra-Com Run Mode software has the ability to download updated Micro-CAM running software via the USB port during initialization. Monitor the Transmit PTT, handset and headset detect lines for a change of state. Depending on the operation, some changes of states will be reported to the Ultra-Com Run Mode software. Other changes of state may result in the local software altering analog audio routing paths. Perform local diagnostics. On power-up the card performs testing of the following circuitry: processor internal memory, Boot EPROM checksum and USB interface. Provide a routable input for dynamic, headset and handset microphone audio. Condition microphone audio from headset, handset or dynamic microphone. This function requires monitoring the microphone audio and dynamically controlling the input gain of the microphone. This function is termed audio level compression and is performed by an analog compression amplifier circuit. The resulting transmit audio is routed to the PC sound card input. Drive up to two speaker outputs at a maximum of 3 watts each. The audio for these amplifiers originates from the PC sound card output. Drive one local two-prong headset jack and optionally one external headset jack only box. This provides radio and telephone headset audio for use with standard dispatcher headsets. Interface receive (Select/Telephone and Unselect) audio and transmit (microphone) audio from the PC’s sound card.
Software Remote Operator Position Description A Software Remote operator position provides almost all of the functionality of a conventional Ultra-Com operator position without requiring a CAM box and a dedicated T1 connection to the MEP. In this configuration, a standard Windows PC running the Ultra-Com Run Mode Operator Position software connects to a local (or remote) MEP via an IP network. There is no CAM connected to the PC. The Operator Position software routes the position’s Select and Unselect audio to standard multimedia speakers connected to the PC. The operator uses a microphone connected to the PC sound card for transmit audio. The operator interacts with the Operator Screens using a mouse, optional touch screen and the keyboard. While this configuration is less costly than a full CAM-based operator position and can be located anywhere there is access to the Moducom IP network, it does have several limitations. The most serious limitations are the lack of a standard desk microphone, headset jack and footswitch connections. The Micro-CAM is a low cost USB accessory that restores the use of these peripherals when using a Software Remote operator position
